Oh, hello. I didn't see you come in. Well, let me roll back up my cock, put some clothes on, and then we can communicate like two adult humans. There, that's better. Oh, what's that? You're watching Girls? Well, I'll come back later. Here's a mix tape for you when you tire of that garbage. [...]

AURORA BOREALIS, 2009 // LP / BUY I picked up this LP blind, without any clue who the band is or what the record sounds like. The sleeve looked lovely and the basic description on the sticker sounded rather intriguing: "Nigh on 45 minutes of melodic fug, scorching noise, monolithic drift and caveman Krautrock." Very tempting indeed. It turns out that Heavy Winged are a three-piece experimental noise rock band led by Portland, Oregon-based drummer Jed Bindeman . The remaining two members Ryan Hebert [...]
See, the problem with working Sundays for the past three years is that I'm not too familiar with what's going on in the National Football League. So when someone offers me the chance to make a couple high-dollar bets with no vig I should know better than to take the offer. Inevitably my three years [...]

Adam and Baxter of MIRACLES sent us these answers to our questions in this next installment of the q and also a series. q: What is the last song you (really) heard? a: Antimagic 's "Shake Shake Shake" has been in heavy rotation all year. I rediscovered De La Soul 's Stakes is High last week after not listening to it for a few years. It still rules. b: For me, it's a tie between Young Widows ' "Old [...]
Happy Super Bowl Sunday, you super people! I hope your team won, if you're a sports guy who likes a certain sports team. Otherwise, as we say in New York (about the Mets) better luck next year! Speaking of which, pitchers and catchers report to Spring Training soon. I don't have anything else to say really, so I guess I'll stop stalling and get to this week's mix tape. RULES for uninitiated noobs : I give birth to a weekly Mix Tape to be deposited on your iPods or Zunes or Kingklangs or whatever [...]

Hello. I'm in Los Angeles today. Nate was nice enough to pick me up at the airport and drive me home. I responded by buying him a case of beer. Pat just got back from Boston with Eli the dog. We shared a brief moment, Eli and I, as we reintroduced ourselves. Then we all drank and chatted for a few hours. I think they're planning their huge annual "Libra Party" for this coming Friday. Unfortunately, Pat nixed the idea of a "Pat Roast" as a pre-party event. Boo. I'd already written a handful of jokes! Having woken up at [...]
I've written a lot of zany letters before. I'm still waiting for that first elusive publication in a national magazine, but I've managed to send quite an array of notes to various corporations in the past few years when disappointed with their products. There was my letter to Nestle about the "fun size" Butterfinger Crisp bar I purchased that contained nary a Butterfinger Crisp. There were also letters to Heinz Ketchup (for apparently discontinuing their Kickrz ketchup/Tabasco combination), JP Morgan Chase (for profiling against me in my attempt to secure a new credit card with rewards program), the SOLO straw [...]
I overate this weekend. Yesterday I had brunch at a little outdoor cafe on Ocean that made a sublime omelet for breakfast, and had fancy gourmet Mexican food for dinner (grilled achiote chicken served over a layered casserole of corn tortillas, tomatillo salsa, manchego, panela, and cotija cheeses, and coriander radish sprout salad, according to their menu) at the Border Grill, which is owned by two lady chefs who have a show on the Food Channel (apparently). Delicious! Today I had a Santa Fe omelet at noon and In-N-Out later in the day. The hotel near LAX had free food [...]
