Reviewing a Black Moth Super Rainbow record is ultimately kind of a ridiculous proposition. After all, this is a band that essentially puts out the same record over and over, release after release ( Pitchfork , in fact, leveled this very criticism at the band in a recent review). In the hands of many bands, this would most definitely be a bad thing...but criticisms like that just don't work here. So, the news is: this is more of the same. And I, for one, certainly couldn't be happier. [...]

FMLY first heard about Height late last year when Tobacco gave us (via XLR8R) his mixtape of Songs To Get Killed In The Woods To . Months later, we blogged about a Tobacco remix of Height that I've still been jamming out to on the daily. Fortunately, Dan Keech aka Height contacted us about checking out the rest of his album, Baltimore Highlands (Carpark Records), and every day when I give this vinyl some rotations I find myself growing closer to its sounds. The album was composed by [...]

It's an honor to present an interview with Tobacco covering the dichotomy between Tobacco and Black Moth Super Rainbow , as well as touching upon earlier works and hinting towards the future. As satanstompingcaterpillars , an introduction to lo-fi synth-pop was made and as Black Moth Super Rainbow grew from the ashes, several good men and women stronger, the music has not only gained in appreciators but taken on a unique form of production different from any other music being made today. Without spilling our collective hearts out and continuing with words which do no justice, [...]

I'm not talking about the new world flavors of Bali Shag, but NEW Tobacco to hold us over until the release of Black Moth Super Rainbow's Eating Us in May. Height , the hip-hop pseudonym for Dan Keech, worked with nine producers for his new album, Baltimore Highlands. The 12-track album was released in 12-inch vinyl record form this week on Wham City Records, and the CD release party is tomorrow at the Zodiac on Charles Street. But the collaboration doesn't end there. A dozen local and [...]
I wasn't sure what to expect when I popped in the Height With Friends ' Baltimore Highlands disc to my car stereo...but now I find that it hasn't left the stereo in a while. Baltimore Highlands is Wham City 's newest release and is a hip hop album that breaks the mold in all the right places. There's definitely an old school vibe through out mixing hooking samples with roughed up beats....it's Height's lyrics that really stretch this one out into a winner. He talks about excursions into nature, darkness, politics, and love...with a [...]
Tonight there's a slew of good shows around the area. Down in DC Longwave, The Shackeltons, and The Jackfields play DC9 while The Space has a sweet hip hop show with Pharoah Monch. The Hexagon has a great one as well with Montreal's The World Provider. Also in Baltimore, Sonar has Nightmare Of You, US Royalty, Bottle Up & Go, and Coast To Coast. In DC tonight don't forget about [...]

Enjoy these exclusive world premieres from Baltimore Highlands while you read this review! MP3: Height With Friends - Baltimore Highlands MP3: Height With Friends - Code of Love I would hardly consider myself expert or even well-versed in hip-hop or rap, but I know that the vast majority of what goes on in those circles today is distasteful to me. I am weary of the over-the-top chest-puffing machismo and misogyny, [...]
Tonight in Baltimore is Feet night at the Baltimore Round Robin at Sonar featuring the infamous Dan Deacon with The Death Set, Video Hippos, Blood Baby, Nuclear Power Pants, Double Dagger, DJ Dog Dick, Future Islands, Lizz King, Smart Growth, Height, and Adventure. If you aren't hip to that scene perhaps the Ottobar in Baltimore has the answer with Lake Trout's Live CD Release show. There will also be performances by Jason Dove/Vacation Face and We Read Minds. Down in DC the Red and the Black has a great one with E. Joseph and [...]
Height is an MC out of Baltimore that more people should be talking about much more often. He's played shows with tonnes of people like MGMT to Dan Deacon (he seems to be part-involved in Wham City) and released a great album in Winterize the Game a few years ago. Height is back and this time he's joined by his mates hence the moniker Height With Friends. 'The Woods' is a short taster of what's to come in 2009 from him. Height with Friends - The Woods [...]

Height n' friends invented something unprecedented, opium-scented and dark-tinted: Height - The Woods From Jones - "The song was made in parts, kind of like a chain letter. PT Burnem started the track with the main loop/melodic sample and the beat box sample. King Rhythm added the samples and programming on the hook part. Mickey Free did a lot of the filter/mixing to bring all the elements together, also adding additional low-end percussion, and I added live percussion. [...]
