Paperhaus’s Lo Hi Lo is a comfortable, fun indie-pop EP, delivered with pure pop precision and an eye toward melding the absurd with the earnest.

It's an eclectic mix of new releases this week, including some moody music out of the UK, led by trip-hop pioneer Tricky , whose latest album is, according to our Music Director, Don Yates, "his most focused effort in years" featuring the sounds he's most known for, i.e. "gloomy, mostly downtempo beats and haunting textures with a variety of (mostly female) guest vocalists paired with Tricky’s own bleak muttering vocals." Among the more notable guests is the ethereal voiced Antlers frontman Peter Silberman. Another brooding new album comes from fellow Brit artist Laura Marling , whose fourth LP [...]

Another top program featuring a session from Third Eye Foundation and music including- The Helicopters, Space DJ's, Starfin Enterprise, Clinic, Pavement, El Presidente', Bob Log III, Rob Acid, El Hombre Trajeado, Jimmy Riley, Topper, Sam Lightning Hopkins, Solex, and probably a few more which I missed while playing Football Manager.
There is no doubt that DC’s sundry music scene continues to flourish. With good reason, acts like the District’s own Paperhaus ought to be much more anticipated than the semi-disappointment that the capital’s renowned Cherry Blossoms annually provide. Paperhaus drops their sophomore EP, "Lo Hi Lo", later this month as they embark on a 50 [...]

Based on the first track, "Helicopters", from DC's Paperhaus, I'm intrigued as the band sounds somewhat like Michael Hampton's (x-Faith, State of Alert) little-heard but much missed DC post-hardcore band Manifesto. Paperhaus is playing a show tonight in California and is working their way back east but...there are no local area shows scheduled. Paperhaus released its alt-country styled self-titled EP in 2011, and will release its second effort, an EP entitled "Lo Hi Lo" on May 28th, 2013. "Lo Hi Lo" was recorded at DC's Inner Ear studios with producer Ivan Basuri, and reflects the more [...]

"I saw the world, and it was beautiful" sing DC four-piece Paperhaus on Helicopters ; the first cut from the bands forthcoming EP. It might not be the most whimsical of statements, however set it against the bands warm instrumentation and burned-out vocals and it seems to take on far greater meaning. Helicopters is solid indie-rock but much better than that short description suggests. Everything here is wonderfully in-place, but seemingly much more by desire than design. Nothing feels overly planned; it has a loose, somewhat jammy feel but yet it's in the finer [...]

DC's psych rockers Paperhaus have announced that their 2nd EP Lo Hi Lo will be coming out May 28. In the meantime, NPR has shared their first single off it on the show All Songs Considered . The track "Helicopters" (below) is a glimmering example of the sweet tinge of lo-fi shoegaze tones layered with indie rock elements that reminds of a clash between Longwave and the Strokes. Love it. - Dawn Catch them in Richmond at Bauhaus on 3/22 and Charlotesville at Random Row Books on 3/23.

I don't know whether to be amazed or terrified. All I know for sure is engineers are pretty damn awesome. People often wonder if extraterrestrial life forms exist. Then some take it a step further and write sci-fi stories about our planet being invaded by terrifying, evil-genius aliens. But after seeing stuff like this, there's not much reason to worry. We are the terrifying evil genius aliens. When it's time for war of the world's, I'm siding with humans. Fucking quadrocopters. -daNk
Diplo raises the bar on tour transport.
Filed under: News Dave M. Benett, Getty Images Air accident investigators have launched a "serious incident" probe over reports that Paul McCartney and his wife, Nancy Shevell, were just two feet away from disaster when a pilot of their helicopter became "disorientated" in bad weather and almost crashed into tree tops, the Daily Mail reports. On May 3, 2012, McCartney and Shevell were traveling back home to East Sussex, England, when the [...]
I suppose even if you knew how many near-accidents take place in the sky, you might be slightly interested in an accident that didn't actually happen if Paul McCartney was involved: The couple avoided a potentially fatal collision with the treetops with only two feet spare when the pilot managed to pull the chartered Sikorsky S-76C helicopter away from the danger and land safely at a nearby airport, reports the The Mail On Sunday. If you transpose this story to another form of transport, it's akin to the Mail On Sunday running 'Idiot driving like a [...]
For the legions of followers and admirers of Godspeed You! Black Emperor , their instrumental anarchy and critical world view captured the spirit of the new millennium and has carried them through the ten years since Yanqui U.X.O. Even without the benefit of a decade long gap in new music, Godspeed... had secured their legacy in a world where music was being unshackled from its corporate strong hold by rebels who were using technology as a weapon. At the same time, Godspeed... were using music itself as a weapon against the very same [...]

This was a day I had been anticipating for years, and it finally happened. I finally saw Bloc Party! We headed downtown on Tuesday for their session at Sugar Beach, and I have to admit, the anxiety completely kicked in. They played two of their songs off their latest album Four , including Truth and Day Four . Each were gorgeous with their swaying melodies, and Kele's voice really shined. I was able to get some stellar photos of their performance, so check them out here ! After they played the two tracks, I [...]

The first hint that My Great Ghost might be quite special comes when you hear how they met: at the New York studio of Philip Glass , where Trevor Gureckis works as Glass's musical assistant and Drew Smith at his publishing company. Musical assistant to one of the most respected and influential living composers? Yeah, probably a good thing. Admittedly, the two aren't making music that you would immediately jump to compare to that of Glass; instead of minimal repetition, they stick to more conventionally pop-oriented electronica. That said, it's definitely [...]

Adam Boffa from Madison, New Jersey has really taken after his own production name with a stimulating presence of tracks enclosed.
