LA-based noise-poppers, The Happy Hollows [ Official Site , Myspace ], are coming here to New York in a few weeks for CMJ , so I thought we should take a second to pass along some of the new info from their upcoming EP, Imaginary . The Happy Hollows are an infectious trio, one that will surely score big with the kids and folks packed into the Blender Theater that night, but don't take my word for it. Come grab some mp3s and read more info [...]

Bass Kleph has teamed up with a new artist Anthony Paul to bring you one of Vacation Records' catchiest tracks to date called 'Helium'.... [[ This is a content summary only. Visit my website for full links, other content, and more! ]]
Today is the day to get all nutso about eights, or, maybe to just get nutso, if you have Olympic and/or Jonas Brothers and/or Boredoms-drum-extravaganza fever. (Woe to the person who's suffering from all three.) All the eight-related hoopla got me to thinking about how the eighth track on many an album is a hit-or-miss proposition; particularly on longer albums in the CD era, it serves as something of a midpoint, and albums become unfocused and maybe stick their not-as-good tracks in there. For example: track eight on Appetite For Destruction , for example, is the OK-but-not-great "Think About [...]

Helium Cat's Cradle Carrboro, NC 12/16/94 I was surprised to find this tacked on the end The Wedding Present set I posted last week. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if this is the entire set since the last track is cut, but it's still a fantastic soundboard recording of Helium which predates The Dirt of Luck . No idea on the setlist except for Skeleton but I'm sure a super-fan can provide that for me. Yeah, I'm looking at you Bradley's Almanac . Set List: [...]

We pop into Cast for a couple of Leffe's to steady our nerves for what is to come. Of course it would have been easier to 'just say no' but I didn't and thanks to OMT (that's Open Mind Theory for new readers) here I am at Rock City seeing 'Scouting For Girls' who I recklessly got tickets for before I'd listened to their album. As I sip my Leffe I ponder how I can objectively review this 'phenomenally' popular band because despite reaching number 1, their album is one of the most painful aural experiences I've [...]
Mary Timony is the sort of musician who has been a part of so many projects that it's hard to pick two! Autoclave seem like the obvious choice but Helium really did it for me. I got on board with Pirate Prude and they never lost me. One of my most fond memories is going to see Helium with my friend T at Bottom Of The Hill in San Francisco. It was one of those nights when everything worked out - the show was sold out so we arrived very early to make sure we got in. Having [...]
...And here's post #2 for today. It's just a mix tape. No cool stories or updates to go along with it. Although, if anyone out there knows CSS and wants to tell me how I can align everything on this page so that it's always centered, and centered in every browser, that would be immensely helpful to me. And if you haven't already, please buy something from me on eBay ? I'd like to stay on the west coast for as long as possible, and your money can help ensure this. Thank you. Now for some music. [...]

Bottling Smoke Day 2 was a lesson in unbelievable psychedelic soundscapes, free improvisation and avant-garde composition. My day began at roughly 2pm when I walked over to Echo Curio. I bumped into some people I had met the night before and we headed around back to the merchandise booths that were set up in the rear of the building. I purchased some CDs and CD-rs, then headed inside to catch New Fairfield Parks And Recreation and their melding of folky acoustic guitar with homemade signal processor glitch-work. The Alps (a Jefre Cantu project) did not perform, so the next act [...]
Wow. Last night's dinner party was pretty incredible. Good people, excellent food, an overall great experience. I sampled dishes I'd ordinarily shy away from, and tried my best to liven up the gathering with my particular brand of humor and gregariousness. On a scale of one-to-ten, I'd say my performance was a twenty-two billion, three-hundred eighty-four million, seventy-six thousand, one-hundred and forty two. Thanks, alcohol! Sorry. In all honesty, it was the most fun I've had here yet. Also, in accordance with the laws of full-disclosure, I'm obligated to inform you that I had to choke back a [...]
Unexpected news: Mary Timony's coming out with a new album in May. Not only that, she played SXSW 2007 not once, but twice! Somehow, in all the Austin coverage I managed to miss this, so back into the interwebs for a scoop on what The Shapes We Make might sound like. What did I manage to dig up? Not much— the Onion AV Club was underwhelmed by her Saturday night set, which isn't that surprising considering Timony's stage presence has always been a bit shaky. Ah, but here's word on what to expect from an unlikely source: [...]

Welcome to "On The Flippty-Flop," where your Idolators spotlight unjustly ignored B-sides, bonus tracks, and EP cuts. Send your suggestions to tips@idolator.com . ARTIST : Helium SONG: "What Institution Are You From?," 1995 FIRST APPEARANCE: Superball+ EP WHY IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN AN A-SIDE : Helium's 1995 album The Dirt Of Luck was a straight-up masterpiece, but the four bonus songs on Superball+ aren't any slouches, either. "What Institution Are You From?" is the high [...]
