March Madness just ended and all of you bracketologists out there are probably pretty sad you'll have to until next year to get your bracketology on, but don't fret! Back for a second year by popular demand, in a move that is sure to establish itself as a Portland institution - it's Rigsketball ! If you're late to the game, Rigsketball is halfcourt, 3v3 basketball played on a regulation hoop attached to the back of a van, just about anywhere the cops won't bust the party. However, when played in a bracket-style tournament with 32 of Portland's most ballin' [...]

Photo Credit Natasha Fagan "Hook" is the first track on Hello Electric's upcoming EP Dead Champion, due to be released on October 25th on Spaceman USA. The song embodies this Portland band's signature elements, showcasing unique rhythms combined with dark keys and thick synths. Frontman Kirk Ohnstad describes "Hook" as a "retelling of Peter Pan" with a "conceptual feel to it that is a characteristic of Hello Electric." Dark sounds in a Rock tinged theatrical essence, Hello Electric will not disappoint the Alternative Rock visionaries. No stray moments here, a pure avant-garde [...]

Portland's own Hosannas are playing a free show tonight at the Holocene as part of Portland's monthly Rumble showcase with fellow PDX group Hello Electric and Los Angeles band Vanaprasta. Hosannas, who released one of our favorite songs of 2010 in "The People I Know," released a new EP last month titled Thug Life Nicole . The experimental pop output from brothers Brandon and Richard Laws continues to mesmerize and entrance on songs like "Obsolete People," a cosmic tornado of percussion, dark bassy synths and beautifully harmonized vocals. The show, presented by Future Sounds, starts [...]

LA's Vanaprasta hold court for the April Rumbles Now that everyone has hopefully recovered from their SXSW hangovers, THE RUMBLE TOUR is back in April with a touring act we've been fans of for quite a while, VANAPRASTA . This LA based quintet, comprised of Collin Desha (guitar/vocals/keys), Steven Wilkin (vocals/keys), Taylor Brown (bass/vocals), Cameron Dmytryk (guitar) and Ben Smiley (drums) formed in 2008 and have been laying the foundation for their takeover ever since; with a coveted residency at The Echo, a steady presence [...]

Portugal. The Man's newest album features more than just eleven fiercely transcendent vignettes. The Satanic Satanist is a single machine as well as a long suite of compositions, segued together into one seamless presentation. Born from the band's ravenous creative appetite, many months of dedicated touring and their rare commitment to challengingly perfect songcraft, all set against a canvas of Portland winter skies. Content instead to rely upon their faith in each other, their music and the steady guidance of friends. This is a band that has embraced that they are performers and [...]

Future Sounds is thrilled to be a part of the return to the music scene by UNITED STATE OF ELECTRONICA and their latest release, " LOVEWORLD ". We had them kick off our Rumble: Seattle party and we're absolutely floored by their live show. Future Sounds featured U.S.E on Future Sounds 18 in February of 2005 after hearing the single, " Emerald City " and downloading their entire record for FREE, long before Radiohead or NIN ever even considered such a concept. That DIY attitude has always resonated with Future Sounds [...]

With the amount of testosterone pulsing alongside the rugged guitar chords in "The Bear King," it's easy to slide local trio Hello Electric right next to Aussie group Wolfmother on the record shelf. However, Hello Electric are Pacific Northwesteners all the way, not just in terms of its physical residence, but in the into-the-wild imagery in "The Bear King" and the rest of its song catalog, too. With titles like "North on the Moss" and "Forest Green" these guys really live up to all the NW stereotypes, huh? Besides the rad song title, I also love the track's [...]
