If the feel-good story of Primus reuniting with original drummer Jay Lane , who hasn't performed with the band since 1989, wasn't enough for you, the band also announced a hefty set of touring dates. Now we're happy to announce (via the band's official site ) that they have since added some more dates, including an excursion to our neighbors to the north. Among the 11 additional dates, expect stops in Eagle, ID, Seattle, WA, Chicago, IL, Detroit, MI, and the aforementioned stops in Alberta and Winnipeg. Sadly, those hoping to see [...]
After posting some teaser messages on a new Twitter page ("We are back!") and a new teaser website ("Primus! Will be with you shortly"), Primus has released a month's worth of summer tour dates. And if that weren't enough, according to The PRP , said dates will feature a reunion with early drummer Jay Lane. Lane, who hasn't performed with Primus since 1989, left his recent duties with Phil Lesh/Bob Weir outfit Furthur to rejoin his former bandmates. Longtime Primus drummer Tim "Herb" Alexander has been spending his time of late [...]

From Blah Blah Blah: "Filthy Dukes, the dance rock DJs have been at the forefront of the club scene for sometime as both DJs and promoters, propelling themselves from the grotty sticky floors of the Camden Bar Fly to the more pleasant surroundings of Fabric with their outrageous ability to effortlessly combine the best upcoming live and DJ talent, presenting the likes of Justice, Late of the Pier, Bloc Party alongside your Sindens, Boy 8 Bits and Erol Alkans…… and if that wasn't enough they have now taken the Kill em All [...]

I was first exposed to Heloise & the Savoir Faire 's live set when they supported The Teenagers at the Music Hall of Williamsburg along with TLC staple Lissy Trullie in December . At the time I was truly captivated by Heloise's incredible voice and the over-the-top theatrical stage presence of the show as a whole. After their short UK trek earlier this year, Heloise & the Savoir Faire returned to NYC in time for the Valentine's Valium-times Day celebration at Le Poisson Rouge last Friday. [...]

Do you prefer fires or foes to be friendly? Your tigers mini or republic? Your Sebastiens with or without the acute accent (é)? Confused? You're not the only ones. For as many bands as we listen to on a daily basis and try to keep neat and organized in the muddled recesses of our brains , from time to time we can't help but become hopelessly and utterly confused between similarly named artists. But it doesn't have to be that way! Below, we countdown our top 10 mental stumbling blocks and try to assess the subtle [...]

Music should strike fire from the heart of man, and bring tears from the eyes of woman. ~ Ludwig van Beethoven ~ What is the essence of adept or good music? Is it the mere ability to catch people's attention or has it had to do with the virtuoso style of creating the songs which somehow makes it unique from other pieces? +/- I couldn't answer that. In some ways, music has its own relativity. For almost 500 posts here in Play which 6 months later [...]

Burlington, Vermont's Ryan Power recently captivated the Northeast Kingdom in Bushwick with his unique and bizarre one-man electro opera. With several Vermont celebrities on hand - most notably, Heloise of Heloise & the Savoir Faire - Power delivered an entrancing vocal performance, singing beautifully over meticulous and multi-dimensional electro tracks. Power recently made waves when he opened for buzz band Women in Manhattan. The latest LP, Is It Happening? was released in 2007. Ryan Power - Shodi and Dotty (mp3) [...]
So for me, CMJ kinda blew. Sure Crystal Castles were awesome. I'm a new fan of WhoMadeWho, Bad Veins and Heloise & the Savoir Faire. And Crystal Antlers rocked it all over the city. But my CMJ experience at first got off to a rough start . Then I hit the overwhelming fest for two nights. Friday I felt exhausted. Saturday I planned on going to the After the Jump day party, which was supposed to be at The Yard, then got switched to Market Hotel due to rain, then got cancelled [...]

-Crystal Antlers at Continental Army Plaza, Brooklyn I started off Wednesday with a non-CMJ show, part of Todd P 's week of free shows at the Continental Army Plaza in Williamsburg. Yes it was outside. Yes it was cold. But that didn't seem to put a damper on Crystal Antlers ' ferocious performance. These guys are a loud and gritty, somewhat oversexed, desert rock band from Long Beach CA, whose music may have felt more at home in the grunge era. They sounded really great outside, with the J [...]
