I almost didn't post this (there is an obvious element of repetition between this and my favourite albums of the year) but as it was half finished decided to see it through, posting the first half now and the second half a little later today... the following are twenty five of (let's face it there were a lot more than 25 great songs this year) my favourite tracks of the year, not specifically displayed in order, impossible task! 25. Wild Flag - Future Crimes Posted 7th September : "A guitar [...]

"Really sorry but we don't think we'll be able to cover these dates now as our bassist dropped out".
Last weekend the lovely folks at Moogie Wonderland were kind/foolish enough to invite me to DJ once again. On and off over the course of six hours, I played the following songs. There was a lot of dancing, and one of these songs somehow resulted in a twenty person singalong. Awesome. 1. This Many Boyfriends - #1 2. Herman Dune - Lay Your Head On My Chest 3. Hefner - Painting and Kissing 4. Tigercats - Banned at the Troxy 5. The Hidden Cameras - Death of a [...]

Facebook / helpstampoutloneliness.bandcam p.com/ Manchester sextet Help Stamp Out Loneliness really should have been discovered earlier than late August because their self-titled debut LP could have been the perfect summers soundtrack. Containing 12 tracks of joyful indie-pop gems that remind me of something in-between Camera Obscura and Pains of Being Pure at Heart. Delightfully waltzing along with shimmering keyboards, jangly guitars and infectious swirling tunes. The themes are not in your ordinary indie-pop territory, playful melodies often hiding bitter-sweet lyrics such as rock star stalking on "Record Shop" [...]
It's June, so it must mean it's time for the obligatory Indietracks compilation album. Sadly this year it won't be released on CD in an attempt to reduce costs, meaning you'll have to burn your own discs for the long drive up. On the other hand, as it's a download only, you can pay whatever you like for it with all proceeds going to the lovely Midland Railway Centre . Every year they put up with us descending on them, so it's nice to be able to give them a little something back. [...]
Last night was Another Form of Relief's first outing as a DJ, at the lovely Moogie Wonderland in Rochester. There were a lot of reasons why last night could have been a failure, from me not having a clue what I was doing to the event being moved to a new venue at a relatively late hour. I'd say it turned out rather well though, with a good number through the door, and there actually being a proper dance party through the second and third sets. Here's what I played across the four sets: [...]

You know those times where you judge a band incorrectly, rigidly stick with that initial impression for ages and then end up eating humble pie about them? That's my experience with Help Stamp Out Loneliness . The first time I encountered them was at Indietracks 2009, when they were on immediately before Art Brut and, assuming my memory is correct, I actually found them a bit boring. That opinion has stuck ever since, without any attempts to give them another chance. Over the past few months, buzz has been building for their debut album, and people whose [...]

'Record Store ' By Help Stamp Out Loneliness. Help Stamp Out Loneliness formed when indie popsters ' Language Of Flowers ' disbanded in 2007 after Bentley Cooke (guitar) and Colm McCrory (bass) decided enough was enough and maybe it was finally time to seek the more settled life on civvy street. Being stoic chaps they didn't seek rehab or counselling, no, they simply went cold turkey turning their back on the C86 lifestyle and settled into mainstream 'normality'... or so it seemed. For despite integrating themselves into polite society the allure of indie [...]

Alex caught up with Manchester's Help Stamp Out Loneliness, a promising dream pop outfit whose debut album is slated for release on May 9th. Read, listen and order . Help Stamp Out Loneliness by Help Stamp Out Loneliness 1. I'm very excited to finally get to know you guys a little better. So band members, please introduce yourselves! I would really appreciate it if each of you could give us his/hers specific character description in no longer than 4-5 words. (When you got together, past projects and also, what [...]

It was just like Christmas. Just Like Xmas (In Cottonopolis) by Help Stamp Out Loneliness

Just when you thought it was never going to happen, here we are a again (albeit one day late) -- it's the Christmas countdown! Since I had loads of fun last year doing the 25 Indie Songs of Christmas , here we are with my favorite Christmas tradition, where we feature one indie Christmas tune a day to count down the days until Christmas. To make up yesterday's absence of Christmas posts, we've got two tunes off WIAIWYA 's album download of the month - Christmastime, Approximately . The first one is from [...]

Part 2 of 4: Last year in my year end round up of my favorite singles I wrote how the 7 inch single seemed to be coming back into favor. This year it went over the top. There seemed to be labels popping out of the woodwork who's main mission was to gather up the best songs and put them out on little pieces of vinyl. To reflect the bumper crop of singles I've expanded the year end singles count down to 40. Like Casey Kasem use to do, we're gonna count them down. I don't think we'll be doing [...]

Sunday didn't get off to the greatest of starts. Waking up rather early after a terrible night's sleep at the Travel Inn, followed by Tesco breakfast (surprisingly edible), and then arriving on the site before anyone else at all wasn't the best feeling in the world. Still, after not getting to any on the Saturday, I was determined to catch at least one on-train performance, namely that of The Manhattan Love Suicides. Now, apparently they'd broken up shortly before the festival, but having no idea, went and sat and waited for them in a train [...]

Colm McCrory und Bentley Cooke von der wunderbaren Tweepop-Band Language of Flowers haben mit Help Stamp Out Loneliness ein neues Nebenprojekt ins Leben gerufen - in ihren eigenen Worten: "... decided to take a sabbatical from the drug fuelled ultra-violent world of C86 and start a lounge-gaze-krautpop band instead (whatever that is)." [...]
