Brutal honesty: I'm stuck on Helvetia's 2011 album The Lam right now. In particular the first track ("Saucer of Dread") and track 3 ("On the Lam"). Helvetia has returned with a new track called "A Mirror" and it embodies precisely why I dig this band: epic soundscapes, driving shoegaze riffs, hazy melodies, downtrodden vocals. "A Mirror" will grip your soul and twist it mercilessly, and you? You will enjoy it. helvetia- a mirror by helvetiamusic

This video was just dropped off on the my doorstep in an unmarked package. Normally I would not open such a package but this one had a giant hand flipping me the bird drawn on it. Except the middle finger wasn't a finger... if you know what I mean. So I obviously opened it and watched it. I really liked it. So much so that it motivated me to rob a bank. That didn't turn out so well, don't really want to get into a whole lot of particulars, but let's just say that I will have more time for [...]

According to Wikipedia , Helvetia is the female personification of Switzerland. According to CoS, Helvetia is an experimental indie duo from Seattle, though multi-instrumental mastermind Jason Albertini grew up in Switzerland. Together with fellow ex- Duster member Canaan Dove Amber, the band is set to release album number 5 through The Static Cult Label on April 12th. Preceding that release is a video for the track "Bring Me The Knives," and Cluster 1 has the premiere. Now, the record is called On The Lam , [...]

Music Videos: Helvetia – "Bring Me the Knives" - These people in ski masks commit the exact opposite of a bank robbery. Bird of Youth – "The Sound of One Name Dropping" - The Brooklyn band mellows out in the studio and does a live rendition of the track. Polished, yet raw… Parenthetical [...]

Helvetia return with On The Lam , pumping out several new psychedelic tracks blending pop and rock very much in the style of the Pacific Northwest. The title track is among the more notable tunes on the album, beginning with a simple pop guitar melody, handclaps, and a consistent beat. Like the melody, the vocals are soft and borderline playful, albeit with a hint of emotion. By the end, the song tailspins into a hazy psychedelic swirl, launching straight into the similarly vibrant "Arise Pt. 13. The latter, however, is dreamier and more [...]

When I first got the email with this new track from Helvetia , I was immediately drawn to the band's participation with Papercuts , one of my favorite acts. Now, while I can definitely see some similarities in regards to how songs slowly build before reaching their climax, this group doesn't seem to have the same somber tones, instead offering up a bit of light through that Pacific Northwest rainy weather. The group will be releasing their new record, On the Lam , on April 12th via [...]
Helvetia returns April 19 with On The Lam (The Static Cult). The album is the Pacific Northwest outfit's fifth and the follow-up to 20092s Helvetia's Junk Shop. Band members Jason Albertini and Canaan Dove Amber are both veterans of '90s MAGNET fave Duster, and each has played with other outfits, including Xiu Xiu, Papercuts and Love [...]

Dedicating much of my time to the discovery and cultivation of new music, I've noticed a clear shift in my attachment to the medium. We process music and pleasure in the same areas of the brain , and the extent to which we're using it to define ourselves in relation to one another is astounding. I cannot explain why a certain song resonates within me, but the way that it can become a facet of my being is why I still search for new music. Helvetia 's Old, New Bicycle typifies a [...]

TOMORROW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh man oh man oh man! This is it! I'm a nervous wreck between getting everything ready, dealing with some bike issues - really? bike issues the week of my ride ???? - and what I'm hoping is just congestion from pollen?? Canadian Ma-Ma was in town last night on their way back up Toronto from Florida, then we have a rider driving up from Colorado to participate tomorrow, etc, etc, etc...... yeah, I'm [...]

I like to listen to the contrast podcast while I ride my bike. It really makes the time fly by, although it's a little hard to ride uphill when I'm laughing. Anyway, what with the theme being "bicycles" this week (which you can listen to here ), you'd think I would have had no trouble choosing a song to submit. Well, of course I did have trouble, mainly because I didn't pick a track from Bombay [...]
Helvetia is not your typical rock band. Their music is not of the loud head banging variety, nor is it the soft angst ridden emo music currently heard all over the radio. No, Helvetia is different. Helvetia is that rare breed of rock band that is not only talented, but also very [...]

Seattle based band Helvetia's follow up to last years acclaimed 'The Acrobats' and fourth record, 'Helvetia's Junk Shop', is an intimate and personal collection of songs that puts one into a surrealistic yet calming state of mind. This time more than just an an ode to the lo-fi world of cassette 4-track recording, Helvetia present themselves as pop experimentalists that add atmospheric guitar work and droning organs layered into a sometimes rootsy, sometimes lo-fi, and often psychedelic mix. 'Helvetia's Junk Shop' will be released on September 15th, 2009 but for [...]

Swiss transplant Jason Albertini is now living in the Northwest, and his music with Helvetia is easily influenced by the sounds of the area, not to mention his recordings, since he's been joined by Scott Plouf of Built to Spil l. His new album, Helvetia's Junk Shop , will be released this September on Static Cult . This recording sounds a bit muddy, but it the vocals definitely meander through the song as you would expect from a band [...]
