My theory about Gruff Rhys album Candylion is that it's kind of like candy: in small portions it's tasty and delicious and makes me feel good, but in mass quantities it might not be so nourishing. Of course, I've only heard three songs from it. What do you think? Gruff Rhys -- "Candylion" mp3 off Candylion ( buy ) Gruff Rhys -- [...]
What, you don't think we need another cover version of "Rapture"? Too bad! From the 2007 release Speakers And Tweeters, by Dub Pistols. Dub Pistols - Rapture Her Space Holiday released a pair of instrumental EPs recently; this track caught...

Don't forget to pack your wife! The Devil is off on his holdays for a well deserved, well earned and long overdue break. There will be no posts for the next week, unless I suffer withdrawal symptoms and can locate an internet connection. So, as a parting shot, todays MP3s all have a holday theme. Enjoy and I'll see you soon... Go Try [...]

It's pretty crazy." - Neil Young "I stone got crazy when I saw somebody run down them strings with a bottleneck. That's a pretty nice hoodie yeah, well if you get one , do not wear it when going for a drink in a narrow-minded country town. Ridicule from drunk Primark shoppers, denial of entry into places of generic decorum...... needless to say it was an early night. Still, I was left feeling smug in the knowledge that i'm not such a narrow-minded person with no interests or meaning to their life. Music, it's Sunday, nothing to intense please. I really really love Mice Parade , the New York act show [...]

So, YOU were Time Magazine's Person Of The Year last year, you know? Well, it's time to own up. Thanks to the internet, three artists are asking you to help them: Jarvis Cocker, the ex-Pulp, British (now Parisian) dandy, is planning on touring his debut solo record, Jarvis, in the US; via Pitchfork, we heard that American and Canadian bands are welcome to propose their services as opening acts.

In the face of huge and incredibly wealthy companies suing one other over because of their fears of the internet, and all the terrible, terrible things it will bring, it might be a good idea to think about how far things have come since the days of Napster and Audiogalaxy. Once, bands and labels did as much as they could to prevent mp3s reaching the internet. Now, almost all labels are engaged with it, and it forms as much a part of their promotional and retail world as anything else - and that's before getting into the whole Web 2.0 [...]
I've been following Marc Bianchi's band Her Space Holiday for a couple of years now. When his masterpiece of electronic pop, The Young Machines, came out in 2003, he'd already lived through at least two personal musical eras, one in the California hardcore scene and one as a lo-fi bedroom electro artist. His introspective, clever and self-deprecating songs have stuck with me ever since. "4:00

A part of series that is a little scattered than I would have wanted to. But nothing is perfect. This list is probably for my enjoyment alone entirely. The only relation with the rest of list is texture and craftmanship that I like. It's where electric instruments blend perfectly as if it was meant to be. But at the same time, the song are not at all in traditional song structure. A little slow tempo, but main melody lines are streched out, often asymetically creating a sense of anguish and alienation, contradicting the supposed goal of jazz, to be free. [...]

There are things I know make me more likely to enjoy music--although they don't necessarily make it better; just techniques for which I have a soft spot. First: Vocal harmony (Kings of Convenience, say, Gold In the Air of Summer ). Maybe this comes from listening to classical music and medieval antiphonal chants as a kid, but I am a dead sucker for vocal harmony. Second: Strings in electronica ( Her Space Holiday - Tech Romance ). Putting strings in an electronica context just seems to make the timbre [...]
I was digging through my CDs, looking for my other Verve CD, my Mogwai CDs, and others, when I came across Home is Where You Hang Yourself and remembered how much I liked these songs. Her Space Holiday is a one-man band consisting of Mark Bianchi. I first came across Her Space Holiday with the release of 2000's Home is Where You Hang Yourself , an awful-sounding title, but an excellent dreamy disc. At that time in my life, I was doing a lot of long-distance driving, and this was often blaring through my car stereo speakers [...]
Up until the last few months, I hated remixes. I don't say that lightly either. I really, genuinely despised them. It's hard for me to equate that feeling into words, but it was something to do with the destruction of an original work. I know that remixes are usually done with the consent of the original artist, but it always just seemed wrong to me. Kind of like another director re-editing someone else's film. Recently though, something has changed, and I don't know what. I started getting hold of remixes of songs I [...]

Seriously, I used to get real bad blues on Sunday evening and Monday morning. For me those were the worst times. Nowadays it is all a blur and everyday ranks just as bad. I have been trying to pull through it but it isn't easy. It's extremely interesting, how we all actually have a conscious choice in the matter. There are basically two ways to look at anything; a positive way and a negative way. It seems that some of us are prone to immediately go to the uncomfortable negative viewing of events in [...]
