The more we comb through the mp3 archives, the more we are reminded of just how much rad music was released this year. We've picked our favorite track from each month of 2011, and this is our second installment of Our Year In Sound, ah yeah, that would be February. Beige; Silver Writing Belong; Perfect Life The Raveonettes; Forget That You're Young [...]
Letztes Jahr erwähnte ich ja bereits einmal die New Yorker Band Her Vanished Grace , deren PowerPop-DreamPop-Shoegaze-Mix tur bereits damals gut gefiel. [...]
A few videos that have caught our eyes and ears recently. Watch and grab some downloads below. First up, Ale Mania have a nice line in sleazy guitars on Robust Universe . a Orange County quintet Young The Giant have unveiled a brand new 'In The Open' session video of their track Guns Out . a Milwaukee six-piece Collections of Colonies of [...]

I've long been an admirer of the Her Vanished Grace post-shoegaze sound but not enough to single out a tune for praise. Could well be that 'Passenger' has achieved that notoriety because it sounds so much like hugger faves Mew. The song is taken from the New Yorker's latest LP 'See The Moon' and establishes Charles and Nancy Nieland as having the perfect vocal tag team to accompany the layers of sulphuric chords. 'Passenger' has the undeniable feeling of an early nineties classic, with the fuzz and atmospheric theatrics finally relenting to the soaring voices. Brings you back and them [...]

NYC dream op band Her Vanished Grace have added another chapter to their the lengthy discography. See The Moon is their seventh album and it could be mistaken by careless listeners for a Sisters of Mercy side project, albeit with superior lyrics and passion replacing pathos. Nance and Charles Nieland share vocal duties, intertwining their guitar parts like a complicated 3D jigsaw puzzle. Her Vanished has a knack for playing big songs in a gentle way. Running up and down the octaves never gets in the way of [...]

Continuing with the recent theme of atmospheric pop music that Washed Out and Neon Indian showed us, Her Vanished Grace deliver a similar sort of layer-based sereneness that differentiates itself through dark and moody Brit-rock instead of chilly electronica or sample-based experimentation. By most accounts, Blue is their tenth release of new material since their [...]

Live at Pianos, NYC - 2008/10/18. Photo: Lito Vales Good albums can be housed in so-so cover art. Take Blue , the latest offering from Her Vanished Grace , a New York quartet with a big back catalog, who have been flying under the radar longer than they care to remember. Their dreamy richly textured pop songs were recorded and produced by guitarist Charles Nieland , a man who knows his job after handling assignments for Deborah Harry and Rufus Wainwright as one half of the Super Buddha [...]

Reviewed by Sarah Morrison New York based four-piece Her Vanished Grace have created a sound which is really something special with their newest album 'Blue'. They describe themselves as dream pop (incidentally one of my favouritely named subgenres ever), and mix sweeping guitar-led soundscapes with gorgeous wistful vocals harmonies, inventive textures and a pop-y undercurrent. The album's title track, featured on today's IR Daily Dose, seems to encompass everything that HVG are all about. It's a dreamy sonic landscape [...]

My life computer is still in the shop and the one I'm using now is a bit... unreliable to say the least, so I can't do do much on this end I'm afraid. Still, here's a little update with some good songs I found on my current computer, proving that it's not completely useless. The above (and very cool) picture is by Kolbeinn Karlsson . ~ Captain - "Glorious" ~ ~ Morella's Forrest - "Lush Of Spring" ~ ~ Zero 7 [...]

The new album from Her Vanished Grace has been patiently awaiting my undivided attention for a while now. It's not that I left laying on the counter and ignored it, au contraire. I'm very familiar with the band. The band is very familiar with Rock Sellout. I'm pleased to call them a friend of the site. This means something to me. It's a situation where I'm apt to spend more time listening to the labor of love before posting something about it for your consumption. [...]

On friday it's The Soundscapes (last minute addition) 28 Degrees Taurus , Dead leaf Echo and Her Vanished Grace . The Sounscapes kill it, that's all i have to say and that's all you need to know. they rule. i've seen 28 degrees once at pianos back in March. i was quite entertained for the first 20 minutes but they played a bit to long for my taste and i forgot about the tunes i liked. lots of good energy though. DLE are favorites round these parts and never fail to impress. 2009 should be their [...]

Okay, this week's Friday Mixtape is a little short, and I haven't even listened to all the tracks on it yet. In fact, I can't really listen to much of anything right now, as I've got the killer cold from hell that simply won't quit. My sinuses and ears are all out of whack, and it's only because I'm all napped-out that I even got around to doing the mixtape tonight. So, download, listen, and let me know how off my ears really are in the comments. I'm going back to bed now. Tracklisting: [...]

When a band praises your website with incredibly kind words, sends you a copy of their promo, and then showers your ears with delightful vibrations...you realize at that moment it really is all worthwhile. Charlie and Nance Nieland have been serving up their brand of shoegazin' goodness for well over a decade now. Their quartet, Her Vanished Grace , recently released a new CD titled Twilight . The 10 song effort is a well-crafted mix of the best that '80s new wave and '90s shoegaze has to offer. If you're a fan of Slowdive, [...]

Although being around for nearly 15 years, this is the first time I've ever had a chance to hear Her Vanished Grace , the husband/wife tandem of Charles and Nance Nieland. The band has released a number of records together over the years, developing a respectable cult following. Their album Twilight serves as their latest, released just at the end of '07, and is my introduction to the band. First and foremost I got to respect a band that has spent so many years playing music [...]
