Mario J (A.D/D) w/ Mr Maqs Diplo He dropped Dubstep and I hit the roof. Bouncing up and down on stage like an idiot as he played interesting music, including Soulja Boy, I thoroughly enjoyed this set like no other @ this venue this year. Diplo continues to lead the charge with innovative projects and this set did not disappoint. Hercules and Love Affair W/ Pat Mahony from LCD Soundsystem Walking into this party was like stepping into a spaceship in the 70s. The new disco [...]

My friends and I created a mixtape club a few years back with the idea that we'd meet, share mixtapes, listen to mixtapes, eat pizza and have a few beers together. For music obsessives like myself - it was not just a great way to hear new music, but an awesome way to spend the day. The first meeting was a success, so we kept it going - month after month for over a year - until for some reason we just stopped sometime early last year. Recently, we decided it was time to get the band [...]

My housemate picked up a copy of Riton 's 2001 release 'Beats du Jour' in a charity shop the other day and drew my attention to a few tracks. One that stood out was 'Departure', with glitchy, downtempo synths and a bouncy, funked up edge, pretty much unrecognisable from the kind of hard originals the Novocastrian has been producing more recently. Maybe, if I ask nicely enough, Sam will squeeze this into one of his barbecue sets. Riton - Departure This find prompted me to rummage through Riton's [...]

***So I have my top lists compiled, I just haven't been able to fully write it out yet. And since I will be in New York for New Year's, my top lists will not be out until I get back. Super sorry! I am super excited for y'all to read it still! And within my mixtapes which I DID finish (phewf) are a lot of my favorites of the year and of the decade! Have a great new years and enjoy the mixtapes! Stay tuned for my top lists within two weeks!*** Hope everyone had a good new [...]
60. Kanye West Graduation Few rappers have had the commercial and critical success that Kanye West has enjoyed in the last 10-years. He has gone from a little known producer to one of the biggest artists in the world and obviously there's got to be some reason behind it. Graduation isn't Kanye's finest album end-to-end but it is loaded with fantastic singles one after the other in the first half of the record. That half alone pushed it here as the last half goes a bit flat at points. But seriously this is [...]
Paul Revered from Undeaddisco, PSDN!MFO, etc. Gave us his top 10 tracks of the year to share with the world. He's going to be contributing to the site on a regular basis in the New Year and we are really looking forward to interesting articles and a fresh voice here on the site. ______________________________ ____ Here they are, without further ado... 40. Grizzly Bear - "Two Weeks" ; If I were doing a video list the video for this song would definitely be high up on that. But videos even great ones rely on the songs to get the point across and this song is amazing. The harmonies, the intricate sounds, the emotions, it has it all in my mind and definitely is one of the top songs of this decade. 39. Hercules & Love Affair - "Blind" ; Never thought I would fall for the temptations of disco [...]
Toronto - Here we go! H Hot Chip Do it do it do it do it now..Ready for the Floor, Over and Over...two of the perennial indie dance tracks of our recent decades, both products of a band from England named Hot Chip. Their original take on electro pop, innovative videos and great live shows make them one of the bands to be excited for as the new decade rolls around. They are also in Toronto with the XX in April, that is a show you need to check [...]
Nomi Ruiz fronted Jessica 6 , an off shoot of nu-disco pioneers Hercules and Love Affair , have just dropped their first video in support of Fun Girl , their debut EP.
When I first saw this artwork above I thought 'oh shit' something new from Miss Kittin '! - but even better, it's Jessica 6 (Nomi from Hercules and Love Affair ) with Fun Girl . It's a dancier, poppier, grittier darker cigarette smoking version of what we love from Hercules - with a distinct early 90's funky feel to it. Perfect for a late night dance at a club...be it your home or out in this freezing rain we're having right now in Brooklyn! Check out the Byzar Remix [...]

60. Peter Bjorn and John, "Young Folks" (2006) The standard writeup of "Young Folks" starts and ends with the whistle, but the story of this song--a story that trumps even the most powerful of musical hooks it has to offer--is a song seldom told in pop: two older people--tired and bitter from too many heartbreaks, feeling too old for the drama of youth and too young for a quieter older life--find each other. They're jaded enough to expect the end at any moment ("Usually when things have gone this far, people tend to disappear") [...]

I know we haven't put up the results for best album of 2007 yet, but I wanted to move onto the voting for 2008 because, if you haven't noticed, we're at the end of November almost and we have quite a lot to do still on our end. A lot of fantastic debuts made our list in 2008. In fact, half of them are debuts. A. TV on the Radio - Dear Science, B. Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago C. Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes D. Portishead - Third [...]

The blog is still getting worked on but I just really have the need to post some tracks. I'll explain quickly what the deal is with the blog. Basically the blog was located at 'wavesatnight.com' but now it lives at 'wavesatnight.com/blog'. It will have a new design for the blog software we are using (WordPress) and this is taking bloomin' ages - specially when I've spent some time with one design and just happen to go to Oscar yesterday "dude, I really hate what this design is, I'm starting again..." So yeah that's that. You will see what [...]
