Over the weekend, the National-curated festival Crossing Brooklyn Ferry (named after the Walt Whitman poem) took place at the borough's sprawling venue BAM. Performers included the Roots, Solange, David Lonstreth of Dirty Projectors, Parquet Courts, and many others. We sent Daniel Topete to shoot Here We Go Magic, Phosphorescent, and Saturday night's headliners TV On The Radio.

Teen have just revealed the second single from their upcoming Carolina ep. The new track "Paradise" builds further on the hypnotic pop of their 2012 debut lp In Limbo , an album that has steadily been on heavy rotation for me in the last few months. Carolina is out May 28 via Carpark Records .
Local rock n' roll trio Lantern will bring the noise to Kung Fu Necktie tonight. The amount of music the band has is immense, with nine releases available on their Bandcamp; the latest, Dream Mine, was released in May 2012. The band delves into both the psychedelic realm of rock, as well as its ripping ... Continue reading

Here I am, left to go last once again with my favorite songs of the year. I feel as though I listened to more in 2012 than in any other year, and my musical experience was all the better for it. More music means more candidates, which admittedly makes lists like this one tougher. But [...]
e're reviewing some of our favorite (and mostly undiscovered) releases of 2012: Here We Go Magic - Radiohead producer (and heralded "sixth member") Nigel Godrich is the guiding hand behind the eagerly-awaited third full length from the gifted rhythm-centric Brooklyn alt-pop band...headed up by frontman/songwriter and founder Luke Temple, HWGM manages to sound both densely layered and celestially spacious as ambient minimalism meets twisted, spiralling and spasmatic indie rock // Release : A Different Ship (May 8, Secretly Canadian) // Sounds like : the [...]

![Top 50 Songs of 2012 :: [40-31]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4689273_lg.jpg)
Welcome to our annual countdown of the 50 best songs of the calendar year . Songs must be from an EP, LP or demo released during 2012 and no band may appear twice. Today, we count down 40 to 31. 40. Howth - "Secret Goldmine" Howth, all rich with horns and moral victories offered the outlines of a clandestine financial reserve on glittering single, "Secret Goldmine". A down-stroke guitar and drums cribbed from the National's catalog, "Secret Goldmine" was an unrequited [...]

As well as our Top 100 tunes of the year posts over the past five days, each of the MM contributors have put together their own lists. Fourth in line is Toy Steve's debut contribution... This is my last minute, injury time entry into the 2012 Top 10 list... 10. Graham Coxon - Ooh, Yeh Yeh I'll kick things off with a top tune from Graham Coxon with grungy guitars, a great solo at the end and a groovy psychedelic chorus. It is a stand out track for me, laid back [...]
This has been quite the breakout year for many under-the-radar indie artists. While some of our other "Best Of" lists this year contain big name acts, I decided to mix the big with the not so big, and compile a list of the top 10 albums that I just couldn't turn off. Bear in mind that it pained me to cut this list down to only 10 of the best indie acts, so be sure to also check out these honorable mentions: Andrew Bird - Break It Yourself Ava Luna - [...]

Conferrin’ with the flowers… Anais Mitchell: Young Man in America I had forgotten how much I had enjoyed this album when it came out earlier this year until I saw Mitchell perform live a couple weeks back. Her sound is a mix of Ani Difranco, Neko Case and Lucinda Williams, equal parts sweet and dark. Her songs follow in the mold, sometimes haunting, oftentimes producing chills, this is a good album to have at the ready as dark winter nights beckon. One of the best Americana/folk [...]

A rather eclectic day of good today, featuring Danish indie band Alcoholic Faith Mission; British alt-rock trio Animal Kingdom; Brooklyn indie folksters Here We Go Magic; Swedish punk outfit Holograms; producer, DJ, and electronic avant-pop artist Matthew Dear; and the Cincinnati indie rock group Pomegranates. Enjoy. ♩ Alcoholic Faith Mission - Running With Insanity [from Ask Me This ] web // facebook // twitter // soundcloud // shows // iTunes [...]
Another year, another great crop of songs. Some of you might be surprised to see a handful of radio smash hits on here, but I'd be lying to myself and you if I didn't include them in a list of my favorite songs of 2012. There's a Spotify playlist (with a few extra songs) to [...]

Peter of HWGM @ Brooklyn Bowl, 9/18/2012 ( more by Sarah Gainer ) Here We Go Magic 's A Different Ship has made a few Best of 2012 lists, including ones from The Fly , Q , Johnny Beach of Bowery Presents and Freelance Whales . But what records did they like this year? Drummer Peter Hale submitted a list to us, with the following note: Two confessions: I've ordered [...]
