One of the most exciting sounds I've been immersing myself in lately is wonky hip-hop, which (thanks to the ever-changing and often subjective nature of genre definitions) you could probably also refer to as glitch-hop or future beats without a blogger sloshing the kerosene of his opinion all over you and engulfing the situation in flames using his matchstick of keyboard warrior rage. The instrumental hip-hop scene has been developing for many years and has split off into many fragments (many of which are represented here), but it's gathering some serious momentum right now, which means more delicious vitamins that [...]
Ren Riz has just released one of the most eclectic songs I have heard in a while, and certainly something at the top of the Upside stream. It has an outdoor, summer vibe that can only be fully understood if listened to from start to finish. I've picked up on two unique characteristics Ren Riz injects here. Listen to the way he chops and parcels "Speak Of The Devil" - the combination of church bells anthem vocals is not something you hear everyday. Be sure to give Ren Riz and Hermitude some love! Hermitage [...]

That little devil on your shoulder is telling you to dance , come on you know that you wanna ..." First of all, this track is a amazing. Ok, on to the post... Last year, at this time, I was somewhere in Malibu taking in all the sun and aesthetic beauty that is: California. I mention this briefly because the very beginning of this song has that California airiness to it that I love to hear on records. That airiness that reminds [...]

So, since the crew here at Colt-On.com is a loving, caring bunch, we've decided to start a new colum for you guys. Massive Mondays. Being an Australian, I'm no stranger to Sydneysiders, Hermitude, and their sexy brand of future beats (i.e. electronically influenced instrumental hip-hop), but after listening to their 4 th collection of consciousness-altering vitamins, 'HyperParadise' which dropped last month, it suddenly seemed more than mind-boggling that they haven't become internationally recognized on a large scale yet. One listen to the album will whisk you from your body and suck you deep into the Hermits' Vacaymazing world. Things start off joyfully rough and aggressive on the surface where it's a little hard to breathe, but you are eventually [...]

Australian outfit Hermitude are on a dramatic rise with the launch of their latest album and single 'Hyperpass'! Hermitude formed in 2001 when Blue Mountains duo Luke Dubs (Luke Dubber) and Elgusto (Angus Stuart) paired up with a shared love of beats and turntablism. The offspring of professional musicians, they'd performed together in jazz and funk bands since their early teens. Over the last few years, Hermitude's sound has progressed from Cuban- influenced rhythms and hip hop into more electronic territory. Since embracing more instrumental hip hop and electronic relative 'future beats', artists such as Glitch Mob [...]

*** NEW MUSIC - Canadian Zeus are releasing their second album 'Busting Visions' on March 27th. 'Are You Gonna Waste My Time?' - Sydney's Deep Sea Arcade will release their long-awaited debut album...

I first heard this track by Hermitude while listening to Gilles Peterson over the weekend. Hermitude is a Australian hip-hop group who's members consist of Luke Dubber (aka Luke Dubbs) and Angus Stuart (aka Elgusto). I shared this track with a few people this morning and it became quickly apparent that I needed to make a post ASAP. As Danger so eloquently stated; "Fuck yeah steel drums!" I couldn't have said it better myself. Simply put this song sounds like how summer feels. The two person hip-hop group has a forthcoming album [...]

Aussie underground hip hop duo Hermitude formed in 2001 when Luke Dubs (Luke Dubber) and Elgusto (Angus Stuart) paired up with a shared love of beats and turntablism. The duo's first EP was the vinyl-only Imaginary Friends , followed in 2003 by their debut album Alleys to Valleys . Nine years later, with two more albums under their belt (Tales of the Drift in 2005 and Threads in 2008), Hermitude have become a bit of a household name down-under and they have a solid reputation for brilliant studio productions and [...]

Elefant Traks signed duo Hermitude are breaking into the dance scene in a big way with their catchy dance floor filler ' Speak of the devil '. Drawing influences from a strong hip hop and dub culture in the Blue Mountains (2 hours out of Sydney) and with the use of old Analog Synths, nice compressors, tasty vintage electronics, Hermitude have found the right blend to create a sound that is very much for the now! An interesting excerpt from their journeys revealed in 2006 they managed to get their car broken into in France by [...]

This whole year Australian music keeps making me amazed. There are many many great music scene from Down Under. One of which is Hermitude , comprise of beats and turntablism hip hop duo Luke Dubber and Angus Stuart , and their latest single "Speak of the Devil." It is so enjoyable listening to this energetic electro hip hop tune. One very infectious dope. ♫ Hermitude - Speak of the Devil [SoundOwl] [...]

The Australian music scene has been making its mark this year, with very strong album releases from both Gotye and Kimbra. Adding to the Australian musical awesome-fest is producer duo Hermitude, who've been pumping out sick hip hop jams and breaks since 2000. "Speak of the Devil" is one of their sickest tracks to date, almost what would happen if Black Kids (remember them?) had a little more hip hop flavor. Give this a listen and keep an eye out for more upcoming Australian gems. Hermitude - Speak of the Devil

Get your minds out of the gutter and enjoy the sunshine with Aussie rappers Urthboy and Hermitude . I came across these jokers on youtube of all places but I feel fate had a hand in it. Urthboy sort of reminds of a whiter, more Aussie version of Mos Def. His vibe is smooth, his rhymes flow like water, and I'm just in a better mood when I'm listening to him. Hermitude is a beat making duo that cannot do wrong in my eyes. Their style is laid-back and their beats are powerful which makes me crave [...]

I'm beginning to sound like a broken record I know, but this list was probably the most difficult thing I've had to compile, even outside of the blog. I think the main contributing factor behind this is that the blog isn't specialised, there's just too much good stuff out there to choose from. We don't just post some electro/dance kinda stuff. We don't just put a focus on indie rock. We post both of those...and about 50 other styles too (50 might be a slight tiny exageration...). As our About page says, "we'll like just about [...]

I love beached whale . The ABC has developed it into a mini TV series (5minute eps) it's that good. Not music related I know, but thought a little bit of randomness wouldn't go astray! That's pretty choice aye bro?! Onto the music. People will know that Hip Hop isn't exactly my thing. Although, listening to Triple J, it's pretty hard to get away from it, and I am a little partial to a good Aussie accent coming through in tracks. This all stems from my post on the cover Melbourne based MC Illy did [...]
Hermitude is back with a new full length release, "Threads" which is darker from previous outings, but still has that dope downtempo vibe. This particular track has a great piano lead throughout. Hermitude - Frayed (ft. Steve Clisby)
