Ominous smoke and neon lights prepared the stage for L.A.'s own He's My Brother She's My Sister at The Echo, Thursday night. The Echo Park-based band started off with the aptly named "Let's Go," getting the crowd moving in a folksy, bluesy, glam rock swing. Every member of HMBSMS brings a distinctive, essential quality to the table—or rather, stage. Sister/singer Rachel Kolar kicked off her shoes and sang the blues with her brother Robert , who complimented her sultry bends and trills with gritty soul in between a bowler hat, glittery guitar and red and black stripped bellbottoms. He also [...]

Coming later this year is the debut LP from He's My Brother She's My Sister. The band consists of brother and sister Robert Kolar and Rachel Kolar, who split vocal duties and feature Robert on guitar and kick drum and Rachel on tambourine. The band is rounded out by Lauren Brown with her simultaneous drumming and tap-dancing, Oliver Newell on stand up bass, and Aaron Robinson playing lead guitar on a lap slide. Their music captures the earnestness of folk, the colorfulness of glam rock, the rawness of blues, the theatrics of cabaret, and the hip shake [...]
![[New] He’s My Brother She’s My Sister- Can’t See The Stars +Tour](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4064333_lg.jpg)
Las Angeles folk/blues band He's My Brother She's My Sister have announced a special treat for fans who come out to their shows leading up to their SXSW date: a special preview of their new album. The two song set is said to feature the tracks "Can't See The Stars" and "Let It Live Free" from their new LP and is only available to concert goers. "Can't See The Stars" is a musical nod to a past era. The percussive stomping and tambourine in the beginning accent the vocal lines while leaving just enough quiet space to [...]
He's My Brother She's My Sister are an LA band whose bluesy-folk laid back sound makes it sound like they're from the Midwest. If you are wondering about the band's name, it is because the lead vocalists are a brother/sister duo. I've always wondered about brother/sister dynamics in the band. Are they under the 'whatever happens on the road, stays on the road' rule? What if little sister picks up a heroin habit and sleeps around with random AR people on the tour? Is bigger brother cool with that, or is that a phone call to mom? Similarly, [...]

He's My Brother She's My Sister and Geri X (with Doug Wells of the X-Rated Cowboys on drums) played another quality BenCo show at Kobo this weekend. He's My Brother She's My Sister Geri X [...]

He's My Brother, She's My Sister is the odd, yet aptly named musical collaboration of brother and sister Rob and Rachel Kolar. The group's energetic folk-a-billy lifted the crowd at The Vaudeville Mews in Des Moines, Iowa last night. Rob and Rachel share vocal duties with a rich, soulful kinship. Rob's on guitar and kick-drum. Rachel's on tambourine. The songwriting is strong and the harmonies [...]

He's My Brother She's My Sister came tappin' to the Larimer Lounge last night. The quintet consists of a real life brother sister Rachel and Robert Kolar. The unsigned band from Los Angeles brought that "old time" rock n roll to the stage and appeared to having a rollicking time in the process. The dualing vocals by the siblings played well off each other and playful demeanor made for a light hearted experience. The added cello by Satya Bhabha and tap dancing by Lauren Brown proved to be vital elements of the night and perhaps [...]

Bands holding pledge drives to raise money for their artistic efforts is nothing new; in the last few years we've seen locals Sun Hotel solicit donations when they wanted to release their debut album on vinyl , Cliff Hines do the same to bring his Quintet to the East Coast , and Royal Teeth ask for the public's help to travel to Charleston to record an EP . Especially with music based projects, "crowd-funding" sites such as Kickstarter have created a unique co-op-styled ecosystem that allows artists to raise much needed capital without turning to major labels, [...]
As "holidays" go, Halloween has gotten completely out of hand. But the start of dress-up-and-get-stupid weekend is making for some good shows: ► HARD Haunted Mansion kicks off a two-night stand at the Shrine, with the opener headlines by Fatboy Slim and many other DJs,, including Laidback Luke, Tiga, SBTRKT and the Gaslamp Killer, on board. ► The Felice Brothers visit the Satellite behind the recent release of their fourth album "Celebration, Florida." That's their video for "Fire at the Pageant," above. ► Los Abandoned reunites to rock [...]
![He's My Brother She's My Sister "Lazy Daze" [VIDEO]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3815316_lg.jpg)
Such an appropriate video for Halloween, especially if you, like me, cannot enjoy the only best holiday of the year (and one that doesn't involve wine-soaked family dinners) because it falls on a Monday. Yeah, bummer. He's My Brother She's My Sister describes themselves as "western-tinged, folky, bluesy, rock & roll with a touch of vaudeville glamour." The music is fresh yet holds a retrospective rather than nostalgic influence of the revolutionary sixties and showmanship of late 19th century traveling bands (complete with upright bass). And though many indie whores and [...]

"All of your city lights turn your brightest days into sleepless nights" sings Other Lives in their song "Desert" which I couldn't legally include here, but there have been many days that I play the song just to hear those words. Taken out of context, I find myself relating those sleepless nights to some of the restless anxiety ridden ones, and other times it makes me think of missing the last subway home and enjoying the long walk home after a successful night out, the summer breeze flirting with the hem of my dress. Both scenarios encapsulate [...]
