MP3 I was lurking one of my favorite blogs for some positive tunage, and I got what I was looking for: A new track from King Tuff-a.k.a. Kyle Thomas, a.k.a. the frontman of Happy Birthday . On "Hands," rides a wave of flanged guitars into a sunny rock riffs. Though the song is pretty upbeat, there's something kind of freakish about it. Maybe it's the weird, shouting background vocals. King Tuff is not dead. In fact, he's back. This week, Kyle Thomas, also of Witch and Happy Birthday, released his first song under the King Tuff moniker since 2008's excellent full-length Was Dead . The rip-roaring and celebratory "Hands"—part Thin Lizzy, part glam rock, and all Tuff—was released as part of Scion's free garage rock 7" series along with "Agatha's Antlers" by Austin's Hex Dispensers. The Hex dispensers must have put a spell on me, because I haven't been able to free myself from the grips of their latest album, Winchester Mystery House. The album was released last year on Douchmaster Records, with the late Jay Reatard handling mastering duties. On each and every track, the Austin-based Hex Dispensers bust out high-energy garage punk jams that stick in your ears like a parasite. Friday started at Club DeVille at another Brooklyn Vegan event. Greenpoint, Brooklyn band Twin Sister were playing an early set at noon.
