Contributed by Christopher Gedos Everest, Richard Swift and Red Cortez played at The Satellite (formerly Club Spaceland) on Monday, February 28th. It was the final Monday for Red Cortez's residency. They played 4 free shows and gave away 4 free EPs (different each week) throughout the month. It was either the final Spaceland residency or the first Satellite residency, and I'm sure the crowd would've been at max capacity were it not for the unnecessary, corporate-driven name change. Five piece Everest was Neil Young's backing band on the legend's most recent tour. I could [...]

Yesterday, we published a post about the start of Neil Young's Twisted Road solo tour. At these performances, Neil has been opening with My My, Hey Hey (Out of the Blue) and closing with Hey Hey, My My (Into The Black) - a pair of related songs. For this week's Mix Tape, we look at three separate pairings of related songs including the two we mentioned by Mr. Young. We start off with a pair of songs from Wilco's sophomore release, Being There, which was a double album. Disc one [...]
Hey Hey My My is the folk/indie-rock duo of Julien Garnier and his good friend Julian Gaulier. The Parisian duo share songwriting and composition duties and, to date, have released a handful of EPs and their debut self-titled LP over the last 4 years. The two turned their attention recently to their sophomore effort, A Sudden Change Of Mood, which is due out on shelves today. They follow in... [[ This is only a preview. Dredged up a really good one today, friendoes. Time for some sizzlin' hot, fresh new music from.... 3 years ago! Actually, Hey Hey My My do have a new album coming out in April, none of which my dirty paws can post here. I assume that they're named after the Neil Young lyric, and in some ways their sound is exactly what you would expect to hear from [...]

Revisiting some of the classics 5-star songs from my iPod. It was the discover of these songs that really got me into experimental, indie music. French indie outfit Hey Hey My My is Julien Garnier and Julien Gaulier. Forming in early 2005, the duo both write and compose folk/country glossed pop songs similar to Nick Drake, Frank Black, Paul McCartney, Johnny Cash or Brian Wilson.
A montage of printed photos displayed in different locales, an overproduced hip hop video and a live video strung together from a year's worth of concert footage....true, these three may seem like they have nothing at all really to do with each other (as do the artists behind them), EXCEPT for the following: a) They are new b) We became aware of their "newness" via MySpace bulletins c) We like them all, so watch.... "Offend Maggie" by Deerhoof (above) [...]

March 7, 2008 - Southpaw - Brooklyn, NY - The Epochs, Hey Hey My My, The Subjects, Luke Rathborne Review and Images by Dominick Mastrangelo The week that was for Hey Hey My My must have seemed a bit of a blur. The French band, after opening for Lightspeed Champion on Wednesday, played their first headlining gig at Brooklyn's Southpaw on Friday night; then followed that with an acoustic show at a packed Sound Fix on Saturday. Touring in support of [...]

Mount Eerie is at it again folks. The band known for their dark, hard rocking ways have once again put it together on what is quickly becoming a fave around these parts. It rocks hard, it has it's weird lyrics, and it never stops luring me further in. I was a little put off by the track "Don't Smoke", but my personal afflictions have no real place in a pre-review. I've only gone through the album

This show tonight...a sold out show by Lightspeed Champion at the Mercury Lounge...could be one of my most favorite shows in the city in a long time. Maybe it is because Falling Off The Lavender Bridge is already gunning for top spot on my "best of 2008" list and as such has made me look forward to this show with great anticipation. Maybe it is because "Midnight Surprise" can't be played enough recently by me; it is definitely one of the best 8 minute tracks of recent memory. Could [...]

Austin, Tx does it again! A Faulty Chromosome has created a debut album that sounds both cheaply made and intensely complex at the same time. Self-Released, "as an ex-anorexic's six sicks exit,..." is model for the sloppy, yet talented. They are selling the album through paypal for a donation, and recommend $6.66 to cover cost. This album is worth more then that for the interesting drawings alone. Honestly, the music is a mutant combo of surfy, jangle pop, and abstract electro-mush. Good stuff stuff stuff stufff! Listen to : Jackie O [...]
Songs That Might Otherwise Pass You By Southern Drama, "Sour is the Day" This is one of many excellent songs offered on their Sonic Bids page (Sonic Bids has proven to be a wonderful resource). The electric violin and the piano are both subtle and well-suited accompaniments to the singer's rich, languid, drawling voice. While some of the other songs feature electrifying violin solos (which
