Vancouver indie (sm)art/pop trio Hey Ocean -- vocalist Ashleigh Ball, bassist/producer David Vertesi and guitarist David Beckingham -- will be releasing their overdue third studio full-length in 2012 but we got a taste of what they've been up to with Big Blue Wave, the recently released 4-song EP in Canada. The threesome have always been comfortable with a breezy blend of pop, soul and folk but the new songs -- led by the irresistable title track -- sound even bigger, bolder and brighter than before. After spending the summer last year with [...]

It's been awhile since people last heard from Vancouver's Hey Ocean! Well today they just released a new song called Make A New Dance Up. It's a upbeat dance-pop tune. Can't wait to see and hear what will be on the new album! Have a listen to Make A New Dance Up which is free to download on here .
20082s Pemberton Festival set the tone for BC festivals. Although many smaller fests have happened over the years (the Virgin Music festival made an impact but seemingly ended here in 2009, the occasional UBC Thunderbird Stadium event) there is nothing like what the rest of the world, and the rest of Canada is used to. Last year's Live At Squamish was it's premiere, and so with the relatively young event in it's second year, MVRemix had to see how the experience fared. With the first year having Dirty Vegas, Z Trip, The Decemberists and Devo on [...]
With gates opening at 2PM, you should be aware of what's going on and when, so that you can plan out what not to miss. The Proper Villains - Garibaldi Stage @ 3:30PM Vancouver's The Proper Villains are an alternative Hip Hop group that are currently wrapping up their 10 song debut album. The [...]

David Vertesi might be best known for his role in the Canadian band Hey Ocean! , a band that churns out indie-pop so sweet that it's guaranteed to give you cavities. On his own though Vertesi is a little more retrospective and thought provoking. Still spending his time writing lyrics about standard fare such as love, loss and challenges, Vertesi presents them is a way that is far different than one might be used to hearing from him. There's a mixture of drum tracks and electronic loops, all build up as a foundation for Vertesi's acoustic folk. [...]

Dave Veresi has been a staple the Vancouver scene for years, playing bass with Hey Ocean! and Top Less Gay Love Tekno Party as well as backing the likes of Shad and Hannah Georgas . Now, he's releasing a solo album which, based on the lead single, is a folksy singer-songwriter project. The tune is called "All Night, All Night, All Night," and it shows of Verstesi's impressive baritone. If you dug his "My Friends" from Hey Ocean!'s It's Easier to Be Somebody Else , you'll like this too. If you [...]

Sometimes a truly pleasant surprise arrives unbidden into my inbox, and this song is one of them. In his debut solo album, David Vertesi is understated and contemplative, and the overall aesthetic is an uncluttered one. He's better (but not much better) known as a member of Hey Ocean!, another wonderful under-recognized band. "All Night, All Night, All Night" is gripping, with each verse putting another puzzle piece in place until the song is complete. Fans of Patrick Watson, and Right Away, Great Captain are sure to enjoy this. Cardiography will be released on October 26 [...]
David Vertesi for those that don't know. You might know him from playing with the indie pop band Hey Ocean! On October 26, 2010 he will drop his solo debut album called "Cardiography". Cardiography is eleven tracks of intimate and personal songs that he has written. Its a mix of indie acoustic folk, rock and pop. Far different when he plays with Hey Ocean! His music has more of a serious side. Gentlemen Say sounds like he is somewhat channeling Gord Downie [...]
The west-coast trio of Ashleigh Ball, David Beckingham, and David Vertesi (otherwise known as Hey Ocean!) released their sophomore LP "It's Easier To Be Somebody Else" in September of 2008. The album, described by the band as "funked up party-pop", follows-up on the group's 2006 debut effort "Stop Looking Like Music"'; today's song Fish can be found on the former release. After spending much of 2009 touring in support of the latest album, Hey Ocean! is poised to start 2010 with a splash (that wasn't intentional; I'm better than that; I'm also leaving it) by joining the already [...]

On November 28th, Hey Ocean! came by for Bands Undone and sang three amazing acoustic tracks. This time it was just the two members of the band that came. Ashleigh Ball on vocals David Beckingham on guitar Both were amazing singing acoustic and it was a great intimate session. The songs they sang were Liar, Alleyway and a song title which I forgot. Also in attendance was the members of apt613 who [...]

Hey Ocean! played songs of their new album plus some goof ball covers to a very entertained and interactive audience in NYC's Lower East Side.

This is due to the influx of great material that has been sent our way. I've also been sorting through this folder of older email. Within that folder are quite a number of things I meant to post but apparently never got around to. As [...]
