back in me A&R days i spent most of 2005 chasing the HEYPENNY trying to get em major label signed. till this day i still dunno why that never happened, butt thangs always happen for the best reason. and now, plz watch their clever new LA LA LOUD video, unleashed during the Thanksgiving last week. and when you're done loving the below you should swing via a QUEER to officially download their latest TENDRE LP for FREE. and by free in uppercase i mean you have to leave a minimum tip [...]
Somehow we missed this during the Thanksgiving holiday, but it's still quite the clever video nonetheless. From their latest release, Tendre , Heypenny 's latest single, "La La Loud" is more of a tame song than what we're used to hearing from the group, but that by no means that the track is any less worthy for your listening pleasure. Tendre is now available for the actual retail price of $FREE.99. Grab it over on Noisetrade .

Nashville's Heypenny are bringing amusement back. They list their influences as Wilco , Beatles , Coldplay , Radiohead , and Elliott Smith (quite a respectable list, no doubt, that is probably common among many of the bands I like), but I also hear the sway of 80s alternative, pop, and R&B in their gleeful tunes. I suspect they are in my age group (or near to it). Heypenny specialize in madcap, high energy alterna-pop, reminiscent of Dismemberment Plan or the better moments [...]
The lead up to Coachella (see the Coachella Mix) and Record Store Day (extensive RSD mixes with rare songs), meant that we didn't get to all of the Best New Releases for the week of April 12th. In addition to the regularly scheduled releases that week, there were the hundreds of limited edition vinyl releases [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe

mp3: Heypenny - "Purple Street" So I started writing a Heypenny review and then unbeknownst to me, Brian wrote one too. I decided to put the two together. And so here are our views on Heypenny's A Jillion Kicks, out now and listen to it here . -Josh S. From Josh S: No one knows where the Nashville pop has gone, the Pink Spiders made a dent but now that [...]

This song " Water " is killer. The drums take garage pop through to warp speed, that is until the songs refrains for a perfectly placed Voodoo Chile-ish breakdown. The track comes from Nashville, TN's Heypenny , who in 2005 turned a lot of heads with the debut ( Use These Spoons ), prompting a move to music city. After 'cycling through percussion personnel that would leave Spinal Tap awestruck', Heypenny have solidified their lineup (featuring Aaron Distler, DJ Murphy and James Wallace) for their own brand of bouncing twee pop/DC-inspired spazz punk. The result is A Jillion [...]

High Tension Wires' Myspace Heypenny For those who like: Of Montreal These eccentric Nashvillians (Nashvillites? Nashvillese
Hell. Yes. Heypenny's "Water" off their latest, A Jillion Kicks, is beyond satisfying. I haven't jam-a-lammed this hard to a tune in quite sometime. Fast-paced & unexpected, "Water" gives me reason to headbang again, something a band hasn't given me reason to do in quite the dog's age. Check out the genre-bending threesome @ SXSW: March [...]
New York and LA are the entertainment capitals of the world. Regardless of what your personal feelings are for those two cities, there's no denying that they are responsible for the vast majority of blockbuster movies and successful rock bands. They also churn out a sizeable portion of the the country's rappers, visual artists and dancers. But this is a great big country, with a lot of people spread across a great big land mass. And while a lot of the cool kids flock to the coasts to start bands and chase the Hollywood dream, there are still [...]
It's time once again for Weekly Roundup where we recap some interesting music-related news items and share some of our favorite songs and videos of the past week.

Photo by Shawn Edgell Heypenny - "Water" Frenetic. Energetic. With spastic drumming and a pummeling, guttural bass riff, this song speeds along at such a breakneck speed that if it went any faster, I'm not sure the ears and mind could accurately process what was going on. Heypenny prove to be mindful of timing, tastefully arranging rhythms and riffs to wind your attention up like thread around a spool. It sounds like Death's garage punk crossed with Queen-worthy falsetto and psych rock/hard rock [...]
Nashville indie-pop trio Heypenny are back with an electrifying new album, as well as a Fayetteville tour stop at Rogue on Sunday, March 13th . Released in February, A Jillion Kicks is unapologetic in its indulgence, but the huge pop hooks and driving dance rhythms have taken a stranglehold on my headphones over the last few weeks. A former Fayetteville resident, frontman Ben Elkins puts his signature staccato to the test over thirteen jam-packed tracks, aided by the thankfully tight rhythm section of DJ Murphy & Aaron Distler. [...]
