I've been a huge fan of Heypenny since I first heard Use These Spoons, and I'm incredibly psyched to see them play again tonight, because it's been ages since I last saw Ben Elkins and company live. Since I last checked in with Ben, he has added a few friends to the Heypenny lineup, and even though the full band won't be there tonight, it's still going to be an excellent show (and my pick for the night, like I said in the All We Seabees post). One week later and we're still holding up our end of the deal! Today we've got three more artists from last year who may not have put out the best albums but certainly had a few great songs that you shouldn't pass up. And those are... We stumbled upon this gem from Heypenny over a year ago and still haven't been able to shake it from our heads. If you've been reading IGIF for even a little while you'll know how appreciative we are of bands that remind us of [...]

Heypenny - " Secreterror " Considering the fact that Heypenny is based in Nashville, I discovered the band in the most indirect way possible. My friend Rich, from the Atlanta-based Cable and Tweed , was here in town for a show and stopped by Grimey's, where someone recommended he pick up Use These Spoons . He did, then posted "Secreterror" on his site, and soon enough I was trying to track down more information about the group. It's months later and Use These Spoons is [...]
Many years ago, 1621 to be exact, the Pilgrims of Plymouth shared a table with the Wampanoag Indians - or so the story goes. Thanksgiving is a one-day celebration of the things one has at the close of the harvest season. ONe that celebratory evening, the Pilgrims were probably thankful for Squanto, the Native American that prevented the Pilgrims from dying of starvation by teaching them how to catch food and grow crops in the new land. Good on ya Squanto! So, in the spirit of celebrating thanks, I'd like to share a few of the [...]

Quartet Heypenny casualed the blogs a few months ago, but it never caught on as well as some of us expected it to. I still don't know why it didn't, but I think his music is just greatness and highly danceable/spasticable(?). Heypenny hails from Country Central Nashville, yet for his location, he offers us with some great, cheery rock music insisting that his base of operations is more than just country music and big hair. Lead Ben Elkins drew influence for Heypenny's debut title Use These Spoons from bands such as Coldplay and The Beatles, but [...]
