"The sound of The Autumn Project is something of a familiar one, reminiscent of Godspeed You Black Emperor!, Isis and Mogwai but still original, fresh and unadulterated. Dynamics, melody, and emotion are the three most important qualities of an Autumn project [...]
A mix of queer politics, explicit sexuality, symphonic indie pop, and theatrical spectacle that borders on the religious, Toronto's the Hidden Cameras are the brainchild of singer/songwriter/guitarist Joel Gibb. The 2001 debut album Ecce Homo -- a collection of four-track demos released on Gibb's own Evil Evil imprint -- introduced a stripped-down version of the Hidden Cameras' witty,

Munck//Johnson are a quiet duo from Denmark, who sound a little bit like Shara Worden in love with Damien Rice. I hadn't heard of them before yesterday, but since they were playing with four other bands for a total of €4, and they came very highly recommended from a fellow blogger, I decided it couldn't go wrong. The first band up was Lack, and, while I'm sure they was probably something good about them, I couldn't really tell - someone needs to tell them that there really is such a thing as too loud . After [...]
The current paradigm in music blogging is to write about an album at one's earliest convenience after it arrives in the mail, usually months before a proper release. Record labels and PR firms use blogs to generate advanced buzz, and blogs use advanced copies and exclusives to generate readership. But there also exists a tendency to never mention certain albums again once they're written about, and this is a curious move that fully supports Marathonpacks' assertion that all bloggers are inherently selfish-not that there's anything wrong with that . Assuming that this is somehow not the [...]

Fear my crappy photoshop skills I think compiling The Daily Graboid every week is probably my favorite thing to do on this blog. Every week I usually manage to always find a couple of albums from artists I had no previous knowledge of. If there's one thing I try to do here, it's that i'm always looking for something new and this is just one of the many ways I come in contact with a lot of new music outside of reading blogs, websites and such. Like I [...]

As far as the music industry goes, this Tuesday effectively marks the end of Summer and the start of the Fall album season, as the record stores are going to be deluged with great new releases from now till at least October (at which point the new releases trickle off and are replaced by compilations and box sets for the holiday season). Here's a Hollywood Squares of stuff that'll be in stores today that's worth your time and money - some of it I've talked about, others I will probably get to in the future, but most I've heard [...]

The joke about drummers suggesting, "hey - let's do one of MY songs!" is about as old as they come, despite the fact that the track record of drummers gone frontmen isn't really all that bad. But luckily for Tim O'Reagan , he'd proved his songwriting ability long ago with his contributions to the Jayhawks catalog, which were usually album highlights for me. So with that band on permanent hiatus, there were no raised eyebrows when he released his self-titled solo debut last month which he was in town to promote. [...]
The Hidden Cameras have let Awoo finally drop in its entirety (even though some of the tracks have been available for quite some time now). It's not that great a leap on from their last albums, but if you're a fan of orchestra pop with interesting arrangements, then you'll get a kick of of the 'Cameras. There's not much room to compare it sonically with their previous records, although I liked

I like the Hidden Cameras . Sometimes they sing inconherently to my ears and I have nooo idea but I can just listen to the strings and keyboards and it's pretty cool. Those are sort of the best parts of the band I think. Oh and the singer, Joel Gibb, has a strangely addictive high-pitched singing voice that usually speaks in disjointed phrases to the music. But they do it so dang well that I can't get enough of their new album Awoo . The Hidden Cameras-Lollipop [...]
