1. The Piper's Song (Dublin Aunts Remix) - Gypsy & The Cat Neither from Dublin or indeed Aunts. I first rattled on about these chaps back in July last year. Since then, they've released one fantastic album , generated 'buzz' and are currently supporting Kylie on tour! Here is one of the standout tracks on Gilgamesh remixed by Melbourne outfit, the misleadingly-titled Dublin Aunts . Gypsy & [...]

It's June, so it must mean it's time for the obligatory Indietracks compilation album. Sadly this year it won't be released on CD in an attempt to reduce costs, meaning you'll have to burn your own discs for the long drive up. On the other hand, as it's a download only, you can pay whatever you like for it with all proceeds going to the lovely Midland Railway Centre . Every year they put up with us descending on them, so it's nice to be able to give them a little something back. [...]
For the second time in three years, Athens, Georgia's finest has put out a winning full-length, adding another chapter to its 30 years' worth of influential releases.

As part of Canada Day on 2 July, Canadian Blast have revealed they will be taking over London’s Barbican Centre, in addition to their Trafalgar Square event, for a whole host of musical treats. ‘A Celebration of Contemporary Canadian Sound and Vision’ the day will see performances from the likes of Woodpigeon , The Hidden Cameras and Devon Sproule . In the run up to those main shows there will be a series of free performances in the foyer and a screening [...]

If I were ever not going to spend Canada Day in this country, I'd head to London. Every year, there's a ton of Canada programming that takes place and this year, the event promises to be the best yet. In addition to the Canada Day event taking place in Trafalgar Square this year ( Blue Rodeo headlining a show with Polaris winners Karkwa and others), The Barbican Centre will be presenting Canadian Blast (as part of the Blaze Summer Concert Series) featuring The Hidden Cameras , Woodpigeon and Devon Sproule [...]

Polyvinyl So I've had to check myself a couple times from taking a, " Shugo Tokumaro 's music is so weird and wonderful, it must be because he's Japanese!" angle on this writeup. Because even though it's not incorrect - Tokumaru IS Japanese and sings entirely in Japanese and many things that come out of Japan are weird and wonderful to Western sensibilities - it's too reductive and doesn't give Tokumaru enough credit for what he's done with his music. His latest album, Port Entropy is the second of [...]
Featuring Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder and Joel Gibb of the Hidden Cameras, "It Happened Today" is a booming example of how R.E.M. has maintained excellence throughout the band's career. Casually crafting a wonderful aural landscape, roughly half of the song solely utilizes a soaring vocal harmony which is underlined by the aforementioned guests, throatily humming along in the distance. Trailing "Discover" as the second song to be released as a primer for the band's forthcoming 15th (!) studio album, Collapse Into Now , "It Happened Today" boasts a positivity that is expected to [...]

Click on any image to enlarge | All photographs by Ro Cemm What do you think of when someone says Switzerland? Cheese? Chocolate? Bankers maybe? Bet the chances are Canadian indie bands wouldn’t be very high on your list. Yet last week the little town of Vevey, situated on Lake Geneva between Lausanne and Montreaux played host to some of the biggest names in indie rock. What started as a dream for local record store owner Pascal Roth and his partner just a few months ago became a reality. Over four nights, the Salle de Castillo [...]
