We are so fucking excited to bring to you the announcement of our first official involvement in South By South West, by way of an official showcase we are throwing with our friends at MetalSucks and Metal Insider (and some help from Peavey, and ddrum). As you can tell by the super-sick poster designed by Mike Wohlberg of tFk! ...
(Click to enlarge/download. Artwork by Mike Wohlberg of tFk! Illustration.) Last year, MetalSucks was proud to bring our own patented brand of mayhem to South by Southwest in the form of the South by South Death showcase; this year, we're teaming up with our friends at Metal Injection, Metal Insider, Peavey, and ddrum to do it again - and if [...]

As the early days of 2012 rolled on by, Tony Reed, guitarist for both the heavy hitting, stoner-fied trio, Mos Generator, and the classic rock preservationists, Stone Axe, signed an endorsement deal with Lace Music Products. The good Mr. Reed now joins the likes of Scott "Wino" Weinrich (St. Vitus/Shrinebuilder), Matt Pike (Sleep/High On Fire), David Sullivan (Red Fang), Scott Kelly (Neurosis/Shrinebuilder), Ritchie Blackmore (Deep Purple/Rainbow), Eric Clapton, and a host of others who use the California-based companies pick-ups. When asked what is was that he liked about the Lace pickups, Tony Reed had this to say, "With [...]
Look, we're a bit tired, we've foolishly agreed to cook Sunday lunch today, and we still have to trudge down the shops to buy a big slab of meat to cook for it. With much of the UK currently under 2 inches of snow, can you blame us for going with an obvious topic this Sunday? That's why we've gone for the bleedingly obvious choice of a Winter-themed Sunday Slaylist. And yes, it's got Immortal on it. WE TOLD YOU WE WERE BEING OBVIOUS. [...]
Infamously cantankerous studio rat/national treasure Steve Albini doesn't like to be called a record producer. He prefers the term "recording engineer." That's a dry, clinical term for what Albini actually does, but it makes sense that he'd prefer to be seen that way. Over the past few decades, Albini has overseen the creation of countless numbers of recorded artifacts. And even though he's been an outspoken opponent of the major-label system (and of other underground-rock heroes), he's known to work with just about anyone who requests his services, whether it's a major-label juggernaut like '90s radio-grunge rulers Bush or the [...]
Have you had enough summer tour-related excitement for one day yet? No? Well, hot on the heels of this afternoon's official announcement that Slipknot, Slayer, Motorhead, Anthrax, As I Lay Dying, Whitechapel and two other bands no MS readers will care about will all be playing the 2012 Rockstar Mayhem Festival, Slipknot just posted some [...]

Well this looks promising! This year's Mayhem festival, the touring hard rock and metal celebration, has got itself quite a massive line up this year. Slipknot and Slayer will be headlining the festival while the side stages will boast bands including Anthrax, Asking Alexandria, The Devil Wears Prada, Whitechapel, High On Fire and As I Lay Dying. There's also a special artist that will be announced on April 6th and the big rumor is that Motörhead will be that band. The festival will kick off on June 30th in San Bernardino, CA. Tickets [...]

'Tis the season to be recording new music. High on Fire are currently holed up in Godcity Studios, which is owned by Converge axman Kurt Ballou, who is helping with the production of the record. While the band has no title yet for this 2012 release, here is what an excited Jeff Matz, bassist, has ...
Vince Neil leaving Mötley Crüe? Tool announce North American tour dates High On Fire recording new album GWAR cancels European tour dates
I've made no secret of my general distaste for black metal, going so far as to call for a boycott of one of the sound's most celebrated and influential figures. Without question, I'm not the ideal person to defend any aspect of a subgenre that I consider an eye-rolling, oft-racist joke. And yet, Tim Hunter [...]
In case the live footage of three new Pig Destroyer songs wasn't enough to jump your start your morning, High on Fire also recently performed a couple of new songs live. You can check out footage of the tracks, which may or may not be entitled "Serums Of Liao" and "Madness Of An Architect," below. Again, the [...]
It's Guy Fawkes Night. It's the night where you build bonfires and let off some fireworks. It's fun until someone burns all their arm hair off.
This is a treat for my friends in the Pacific time zone. High on Fire and Intronaut, two bands that always deliever live, will team up for a string of West-Coast dates next month, hitting a ton of cities in California, with additional stops in Washington and Oregon. Here is the routing: 11/09 Santa Barbara, ...

News Someone in the High on Fire camp might be taking #13 of my Cardinal Rules of Running a Metal Record Label list a little too seriously. When I suggested labels and bands shouldn't throw away money on a fancy .com band website I didn't mean to suggest those sites should be completely neglected for 12 [...]

Above you can see a screenshot of HighOnFire.com, the official online destination for the stoner trio. The website hasn't been updated in at least 10 years, and it's absolutely magical. Whoever designed it really wanted to get across the "fire" aspect of High on Fire as there are animated GIFs everywhere. Flame dividers, the band's ...
I have a friend who swears that the basement of her workplace is haunted by a g-g-g-g-ghost... She also mentioned an affinity for reality shows about paranormal activity. So naturally I asked her if the ghost at her workplace came before she started watching said reality shows or vice versa. What do you think her [...]
