Teh interweb has become a leviathan of creation and distribution that devours and regurgitates music, in its bloated belly a million weird kids dwell putting together songs with bits of technology, the walls of the beast's intestines are a fertile ground where a thousand DIY alien flowers bloom, ...

mp3: High Places New Grace My Sirius Blog Radio show starts in about 2 minutes on Left of Center , so I thought I'd use this opportunity to mention Brooklyn's High Places , who I played for the first time this week. Their song " Golden " -- which will appear on the duo's upcoming LP -- has been in heavy rotation lately, and you can download it (along with an assortment of mp3s from this week's playlist ) after the jump... It's been a bit of a challenge to get back into the swing of things following the holiday break. My mind is still stuck somewhere 400 miles north in Vermont ( with all the snow ), while my physical self is back in equally as frigid Philadelphia. Starting off with the first post of the New Year, I wanted to follow up the previous post about bands we are excited about in 2008 by featuring a few more. Bringing thoughts of sunny days by the beach and sipping on summery drinks, [...]

there was one storm that wasn't forecasted yesterday, and that was the media one in effect on the lower east side. bloggers, photographers, and media mavens of all sorts gathered at the clusterfucked mercury lounge for yeasayer 's first new york show since cmj , a sold out affair courtesy of friction . the diy promoter brought together up-and-comers chairlift , team robespierre , and high places to open for the much-hyped yeasayer , with the night's only downside being the set limits (half an hour for openers, 45 minutes [...]

holiday partys do not bode well for early morning posts or being able to get one's thoughts together. right now i am trying not to eat 7 dozen egg and cheese sandwhiches and crawling under my desk. this weekend terry d and i are playing at the friction show which is sould out. so instead of rambling on about it, let's just talk about one of the bands we are really excited to see, high places . we first saw them at fader's cmj party and they have been making the todd p [...]

Today we are going to present some NEW Christmas songs. These songs are either released/recorded in 2007 or they are exclusive and never before released. We'll start out with a couple of my own favourites, and I would like to thank the bands Little My and Indurain for being so kind and let us use these songs before the release date. You are the best! Cardiff, UK band Little My are one of these fav's. They will be releasing a christmas-single this week called "Little My's [...]
Been back in Brooklyn for the better part of a week, but only regaining my normal balance after the corrosive influence of clean air and lovingly prepared fresh foods now. So here's some stuff that's been dominating the iPod for a while, in one big blur. Good to get this new or novel material out of the way before we go all in for an orgiastic year-end blowout stuffed with crippling self-involvement. Priorities, and all that... Nine Circles - "Twinkling Stars" I have no real idea [...]

FRICTION is back at The Mercury Lounge with a lineup featuring four of New York City's hottest acts. The local Brooklyn flavors include a headlining slot by the multi instrumentalist troupe YEASAYER , who will be supported by the reverb/echo heavy duo HIGH PLACES , along with electro gangsters TEAM ROBESPIERRE and synth darlings CHAIRLIFT . The doors open at 8PM - and advance tickets are still available (and recommended) on Ticketmaster [...]

I'd argue that having friends in high places is always a benefit. But moreover, I want to be friends with High Places , a musical duo out of Brooklyn. Mary Pearson and Robert Barber have birthed a pleasing cross-breed of ambience and poppiness. My best comparison would be vocals reminiscent of Tegan and Sara meet Four Tet. Also, allow me to point you to Mary and Robert's blog , full of tour anecdotes and hiking photos! This post has: 1 Image 1 MP3
I often feel a bit bad when I go deep into praise for the bands D and I book for our Neon Lights shows, only for them to seemingly fall off of MS's radar out of laziness or neglect. Don't we still love them like we used to? Well, of course we do. So in an effort to better express our enduring admiration, I intend to give you a periodic update on the those groups that have been kind enough to legitimize our meglomania, and their recent happenings. This is the product of that intention... [...]

Monday: Stars Like Fleas @ Death By Audio 8pm $tba This week seems like it's going to be dedicated to Todd P shows throughout the city. It starts off tonight at Death By Audio who will be hosting Stars Like Fleas, a band that has gotten a shit load of hype over the past few months. I have only heard a handful of songs, but what I've heard makes them worthy of seeing in my book. Stars Like Fleas on Myspace Tuesday: The Muggabears [...]

Our friends over at NEON LIGHTS put together one hell of a show tonight at Union Hall. Fresh off of their FRICTION show, The Most Serene Republic are headlining a solid bill rounded out by High Places and She Keeps Bees . I've been wanting to check out High Places for a little while now and always up for another set by The Most Serene Republic. Nghia and I will be "spinning" some tracks between sets, which [...]

The second boy-girl duo on Friday night's Neon Lights bill is the ultra hip, and winningly odd, High Places . Their debut 7" record on art imprint Ancient Almanac totally sold out, probably in part to the stone rave it received from Pitchfork . The Fader and the Village Voice have also been charmed by the pop hooks locked inside their rolling tin can shells. Dumbstruck commenters and UK blogger savants alike describe their woozy psych as something they've only found in dreams until now. You [...]
