The Hiya Dunes // High Tide Let me first state that this is so much more than just another side project. In a day when any given artist operates under several different monikers, it can be hard to make those projects stand out as more than just time-killers. In the case of The Hiya Dunes however, this group of friends is making seriously good music that is as much fun to listen to as I imagine it was to make. Sailing on the seas of smooth songwriting, The Hiya Dunes have come ashore to [...]

*PREMIERE* The Hiya Dunes // "Definitely Retarded" It's always fun when musicians that you really dig come together to create something new. We just got a tast of this earlier today on Portals today with the debut single from Gremlins . Now it's happening again with the The Hiya Dunes . Consisting of Sean Posila ( High Pop ), Eddie Golden III ( The Guru ), Alex Goosman, and Jeff Hoyt, The Hiya Dunes play catchy [...]

I always find it really hard to do song of the year posts, so I just put all the music I got in 2011 and picked 25 of my most played and most favorite tracks, some from my favorite albums, some demos and some singles, in no particular order. Enjoy: Nu Rave Brain Wave Top 25 Songs of 2k11 : The Babies - Sunset (from The Babies LP) The Babies - Sunset by nuravebrainwave [...]

As a part of our year-end 2k11 coverage , I just wanted to remind everyone of the awesome bands that I've written about this year. These are all the Introducing pieces that I did throughout 2k11 about amazing new up-and-comers etc, in descending order: introducing: mr elevator & the brain hotel introducing: toto & the bad eggs (feat jerry tropicano, brown brogues & sex beet members) introducing: hypocrite in a hippy crypt introducing: [...]

Major Bummer // Speed God When Sean and Jordan of High Pop come together, the result is undeniable greatness. Then awhile back we were able to hear Sean break away and do some solo jamming on his own under the moniker Boy Crush . Now it is only fair and logical that we hear what Jordan has to say for himself. And that is exactly what he does with his project Major Bummer [...]

Boy Crush // Hauntr It's no secret that I am a huge fan of High Pop . Their brand of scuzzy New Jersey noise pop is totally infectious and judging by how crazy the blogosphere went over their Hippie Speed Ball album I think it's pretty safe to say that that's a sentiment shared by many. So when the dudes posted a link to Sean's solo project Boy Crush I was all over it. These jams on [...]
What I love about High Pop's new song "Drip From The Sea": 1. Though the guitar stylings and general fuzzy out-put might make you think this is some sort of garage rock song, the vocals on the track are flat and near toneless, giving the song a sort of emo-drone sound to it. Emo-drone and garage [...]

High Pop 's new album, Hippie Speed Ball , is available to stream on CMJ . High Pop is Sean Posila and Jordan Caulfield. They muster up fuzzy garage pop, written for the very dregs of youth culture which they sprout from. All their songs are written and recorded in their basement. At any given time, you can find them somewhere between Boston and New York, loosely attending universities. Their songs are fast and short, but their music is forever. It's kind of like the Beach Boys on crack. Listen to their single, [...]
Weitermachen! hippie speed ball by high pop High Pop - Facebook High Pop - Bandcamp

I feel like I haven't put up any good old fashioned garage rock lately. Enter High Pop , a duo from somewhere between Boston and New York. "Drip From The Sea" is a short and sweet little ditty but the simple melody caught my attention for some reason. They've just released their album Hippie Speed Ball which you can stream right now. High Pop - Drip From The Sea

High Pop's PR company, who generally send me lots of good stuff, got in touch about this band by sending me a link to a Bandcamp page which wouldn't play anything because the album in question isn't out yet. Fortunately, they had an older EP up there too, and fortunately that played just fine, and fortunately it was really bloody good, so no harm done. The album in question is called Hippie Speed Ball and can be pre-ordered on cassette from Sex Cave Records , and I was given a song [...]

This is called the Fullcast for no better reason than that I tried to fit far too many songs onto the playlist. I've have used half the Palmist Records stable if possible, but eventually decided to settle for one single track. There's always next week. I didn't even make room for a song from the new Clap Your Hands Say Yeah record, although to be fair I haven't really listened to that enough to really know what I think about it, so maybe that would have been hasty. If anything this reminded me of the really [...]

High Pop are described in their press release as sounding 'like the Beach Boys on crack'. And after listening to this track, 'Drip from the Sea', taken from the duo's 'Hippie Speed Ball' album, we'd have to say it's almost true. Listen to the song here: 'Drip from the Sea'

Has there been ever been a band whose name is so perfectly indicative of what they do like High Pop ? This Connect-i-cut duo have currently been saving my boredom with their so aptly named high pop that it makes my job about one hundred thousand times easier. From their beautiful Hippie Speedball cassette (which you can nab via Sex Cave Records ) comes Drip From The Sea which 2:27 of perfect bleary eyed vocals, brightly fuzzy guitar, and the build of [...]

High Pop // "Drip from the Sea" Oh man, oh man, oh man, oh man. My buddies in High Pop just released a single from their upcoming album Hippie Speed Ball . The single is called "Drip from the Sea" and it is definitely a scorcher (in a slow-burn sorta way). This track tells me a few things about High Pop that I am more than happy to listen to. Firstly it has a noticeably better production value than that of their first EP Bong Rips . It's not a [...]
