Iibiis Rooge is a collaboration between sonic predator High Wolf (France) and Astral Social Club 's Neil Campbell (England). Their latest audio gift is a cassette titled Life in a Bloodcell . A more perfect description of the music contained within these tracks would be nigh on impossible. Straight from a PBS program on the complexities of biology, physiology, anatomy, etc, etc, this music takes the listener into a deep introverted world. Side A is fifteen minutes worth of a couple tracks that veer from trance beats to electronic bubbling. The first half wraps up with Philip Glass [...]

Ahead of High Wolf's upcoming album for Holy Mountain and a US tour, NNF set the scene with a relatively subtle and serene six-track EP. Embarking at 'Etoile Star' his loops have a longer, more languid and elliptical arc coupled with plangent guitars to remind of Forest Swords. The eight minute+ 'Flowers Of Congo' keeps the vibe mellow, with gently lapping layers of percussion washing around

[RSS Readers: See post to listen to audio] I can't stop listening to Starfawn , its what I wanted Marumari to sound like if he still made music, it might be even better than Supermogadon which is pushed the boundaries of IDM in 2001. Grab their EP here , its name your own price. Gold Panda put out a release today that has all his old EPs in one place, check it out here . I want to pick High Wolf's [...]

The tropical/psychedelic jam scene seems to continue thriving in 2011, with two great CDs to start the year. First one is from Portland's Plankton Wat (one third of Eternal Tapestry) on the cult UK CDR label Reverb Worship . Four spiritual jams nearing 10 minute each, led by reverb drenched guitar ragas and at times accompanied by echoing vocals and muted drumming. Étoile 3030 is for me High Wolf 's most mature offering to date. French 'meditationist' sets the standard here with twangy jams, lots of echo, sinister tribal percussion and cassette [...]

This weeks round up of the tracks that I haven't had the space to post... Thomas Truax From: London, England Thomas Truax, inventor and steam-punk performer extraordinaire, has embarked on a year long album project of writing, recording and releasing a track every month through 2011. February's track is a Cramps [...]

High Wolf — Free Your Energy Field If you dive into the Ganges River- the purest water on earth according to the Hindus, the most polluted and unhealthy according to science- gold your breath and open your ears, this music is what you'll hear. Let High Wolf be your spirit guide as you machete through the dew-covered jungle of "Free Your Energy Field". The glimmering, psych-heavy track is from his Guide [...]

"This record is like a mental postcard from Varanasi (India). It's probably my favorite place in the whole world, being there is like being on LSD. And if you dive in Ganga water (the purest water on earth according to the hindus, the most polluted and unhealthy according to science), hold your breath and open your ears, this music is what you'll hear." High Wolf 's A Guide to Healing 7 inch is out March 22 on Bathetic and already up for pre-order now. Deep and heavy psychedelic [...]

H igh Wolf is a rising star in the cosmos of loopy kosmiche and hypnagogic drone music alongside peers James Ferraro, Spencer Clarke and OPN. He's responsible for the visceral Iibiis Rouge album with psych hero Neil Campbell (Astral Social Club/ Vibracathedral Orchestra), one of our very favourites this year, besides releases on Not Not Fun and his own Winged Sun label. 'Shangri L.A' is his latest opus, a sublimely mysterious and narcotically affecting collection of tracks for the Japanese Moamoo label, utilising tabla loops and field recorded vibes collected on a [...]

Oneohtrix Point Never | photo by Justin and Elise Snow I'm kicking off AiMT 2010 with something absurdly off topic. There were so many good ambient albums this year—I couldn't resist. More 2010 lists to come in the following days/weeks. #15 Demdike Stare - Voices of Dust [Modern Love] STREAM "REPOSITORY OF [...]
There are stars with enough mass to collapse on themselves, forming what have been theorized as black holes. It is thought that within these black holes there is a point called "singularity" at which all physical laws may cease to exist. At this point the curvature of space-time becomes infinitely large, and modern science can [...]

High Wolf Ascension (2010, Not Not Fun) RIYL = Stag Hare, Niagara Falls, Mountains That old Indian drum. The dangling dream catcher. The hollow breeze drifting. It's not an unfamiliar song at this point in the game. The fact that it can be revitalized is something of a miracle though. I mean how many blazed-to-high-heaven hippy jamdrones does one need in their personal collection? It's a bit played I think. Still, High Wolf, being that almighty champion of the form, their silken musk pulsing, have conjured a Lamanite dreamspace of resonance and distinction. Things [...]

So, it's Wednesday again, and here's yet another change of concept: Four weeks ago, I introduced my dear readers to The Fallout , a series of mixes that were intended to cover bands/songs that I didn't post about, for whatever reason. Now, while I'm gonna stick with that basic idea, I thought if NFOP features tunes that other beloved blogs posted before, then I might as well mention them and pay tribute to the amazing discoveries these devoted folks make every day. Because above anything else, I'm still simply - a fan. So, the tracks you find below have [...]

High Wolf: Solar System is My God In the last year, French musician/witch doctor High Wolf has kept himself very busy. In addition to launching a record label , traveling to India, and pumping out a steady stream of CDr's, he's also managed to record and release Ascension , his debut full-length for Not Not Fun . Tackling drone/psych-rock on a cosmic scale, the album unfolds into a kaleidoscope of pulsing loops, tribal freak-outs, and thick tropical haze. [...]

The name "High Wolf" has always gotten under my skin, like an amalgamation of all the wolf bands of five years ago with the weed reference bands before there was glofi, but not that much before. Forget about that though because the bits we've heard of the new High WOlf LP, Ascension, out now on Not Not Fun, is too good to be snared in fickle mind games. Witness "Solar System Is My God", where, as goes the title so goes the track, in that [...]
