Wildbirds and Peacedrums fans take note. (The rest of you, too.) Icelandic cellist Hildur Guðnadóttir - who provided choral arrangements for Andreas and Mariam's Retina - has released her third solo album, and her second on Touch . Leyfdu ljosinu ("Allow the light") is a sparse and otherworldly thing of cello, voice, and gentle manipulations. Listen to the prelude here . This one promises to be huge. home | myspace

An Easter Sunday declension: pure, purer & Hildur Gudnadottir . Perhaps that over-eggs it, since she also deploys her voice & unspecified 'electronics'. But not by much, as the gorgeous Prelude to her forthcoming Leyfdu ljosinu makes clear - its ultra-narrow palette & lack of obvious varnish forcing focus onto the complex shifts of tone & mood she summons from her multi-channelled strings.

A Winged Victory For The Sullen er et samarbejde mellem Dustin O’Halloran og Stars Of The Lid’s Adam Wiltzie.
Wildbirds & Peacedrums e o trio Daniel Carter, William Parker & [...]

When I arrived at Kings Place the walls had been freshly decorated with fish and bubbles. I assumed that this was a nautical/visual pun on the name of the biting Guardian columnist Marina Hyde, who was probably upstairs sharpening her teeth on a piece of cuttlefish bone at the time. In fact I was entering [...]

The London-based promoter- and concert arranger Arctic Circle has made an exclusive and free 13 track MP3 sampler, "Bubbly Blue and Green" , to celebrate a four-day festival in the halls of Kings Place in London from 24th to 27th February . The festival is influenced by shipwrecks, rivers, waves and lighthouses, so you can expect four days of eclectic "water music". The mp3 sampler includes songs from the bands who are playing on the festival, and it features beautiful music for the more relaxed and thoughtful moments of the day from Hauschka, [...]

Yesterdays first attempt at breaking the back of my overflowing inbox went fairly well I thought... 450 emails read and errr 5 tracks posted! It's honestly not that I get sent a lot of terrible music (although I do get my fair share) its more I don't see the point in featuring tracks I think are merely " alright ". There was also a huge amount of junk, " So You Think You Can Dance " updates, and PR lies... " Hi Music Like Dirt, We've been reading your blog for some time now and think its one [...]

Bit of a mixed bag today but we kick things off by heading straight for the jugular with a slab of relentless dancefloor dirt perfectly primed for darkened warehouse spaces. Having missed out on the first Stroboscopic Artifacts release, numbers two and three have definitely aroused my interest. The vinyl versions are limited to a pair of two tough dancefloor numbers but the digital releases also incorporate a pair of stripped down tools for the adventurous DJ to play around with. Xhin 's Fixing The Error / Link came out back in November with Lucy and [...]

I posted about Iceland's Hildur Gudnadottir a few months back. My comments at the time : Iridescence It's over 11 minutes, but feel like it goes by in a flash. The overlay of that droning sound on top of these thick cello movements is breathtaking. It evokes the deep winter of Iceland, a single streetlight casting long shadows in the snow... She's got an album called Without Sinking that came out a couple months ago which I [...]

Vladislav Delay "Tummaa" - Leaf Mp3 | Vladislav Delay - Tummaa My heart almost stopped when i heard that Valdislav Delay new album was out , i was so involved with his last two albums that naturally the expectations were very high. I cant say that im disappointed with the record , its just that with "Tummaa" Vladislav turn into a more cooperative experience than previous works , the astral random blurs of intensity that were shattered all over "Whistleblower" were a bit gone . Its a less sonic adventure , more [...]

I've come across several interesting sonic experiments on the interwebs in the past couple days. As I noted a few months ago , I've been listening to a lot of ambient, minimalist stuff lately (while studying) which has helped to cultivate a growing interest in the geometry of sound in music. Which basically means: resonance and very tiny tonal interactions intrigue me in ways that they never did before. As such, this project has drawn quite a bit of my attention in the past couple days. It's a compilation of youtube videos, [...]
I was intending to start this review with something about the golden age of passenger transport, linking the building of the Titanic to the heyday of the steam engine via the Roundhouse's original function as an engine shed. However I discovered that when the Titanic sank in 1912, the Roundhouse was in fact being used [...]
Hildur Ingveldardóttir Guðnadóttir (born September 4, 1982) is a classically-trained Icelandic Cellist who has played and recorded with the bands Pan Sonic, Throbbing Gristle and Múm, as well as her solo project Lost in Hildurness. She has also toured with Animal Collective. If you are openiminded to new moods and cello music, this is certainly worth checking out!01. Elevation02. Overcast03.

“I wanted [...]
Such perfect timing. I had only just finished waffling about the importance of cellist Hildur Gudnadóttir's contribution to the band Angel, noting how the band changed from being all awkward and abrasive to being lush and listenable when she joined them, when along comes her first solo album on the Touch label. And [...]
