The essential list continues with 10 new entries.

As the song suggests, "It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas" and I couldn't be happier. Christmas is easily my favorite holiday of the year. Until recently I had been feeling pretty blue, but luckily the holidays have changed my attitude completely. Although it's my favorite time of year, it can be my most frustrating and annoying time when it comes to music. It seems like anyone and everyone has released or plans on releasing a Christmas (or as the politically correct would like me to state "holiday") album. Whether it's the cast of Glee or Kenny [...]

Bloody hell. That was my first thought at the end of 'The Berry-Brown Skin Of Robert Kilroy Silk' . Bloody hell. It is quite possibly the most frustrated, pent-up, furious, vitriolic-spewing rhetoric I have ever heard and it is rather fabulous. A tortured lament on the dross that is mainstream pop culture set to the sort of musical tone and vocal screaming Future of the Left's Andy Falkous would be proud of. I should just end the review here but the rest of the album stands up just as well. [...]
Moshcore band from Iceland? You can't imagine them going on tour with Sigur Ros but it's ok because they wanna hang out with Bring Me the Horizon. They know.
HIM : Endless Dark [ purchase ] Like many currently alpha-named bands, the letters making up the band name HIM stood for words (in this case, His Infernal Majesty) that were lost early on. HIM (or H.I.M.) is a Finnish goth-metal band (or, as they describe it, "love metal"). They formed in 1995 behind vocalist Ville Valo, who also pens their songs, apart from some awesome covers (such as Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game," which takes on a more ominous feel in their hands). I posted [...]
H.I.M was recorded for No Fear of Pop's "One Nation" LP but "temporarily lost due to 'Denna's fault" as Hype Williams claims. A very simple and sensual track! Dim the lights and enjoy! Tweet

Hype Williams are slowly becoming one of London's most exciting production duos. There's a distinct feeling with their music, that what we're listening to isn't just music. It seems unsurprising that the pair both have degrees in fine art, combine this with the fact that the duo's name comes from the cult film-maker, and the conceptual aspects of their music seem self explanatory. Their new piece seems as intense in its delirium, as it is mellow in its execution. Layered synths surround what sound like drug induced murmurings and spiritual babble; it all comes together in a whirlwind of [...]

Some have said that Ville Valo only wrote great songs when he fucked up on booze and drugs. We say he wrote shit songs then as well. HIM @ Download Festival 2010 by Gary Wolstenholme
Finnish band, HIM have been a mainstay in the metal scene for numerous years, and have a penchant for consistency. Their latest release, Screamworks: Love in Theory and Practice , has helped their fanbase grow even further. It's the band's continuing popularity that has helped them achieve their own video pack for the music game, Rock Band , which showcases all of HIMs finest works. Check out B-Sides host, Melanie Eusebio, chats one-on-one with front man Ville Valo, of HIM about the new music and more. [...]
Another week down and we're finally at the weekend. My theme this week is one of old and new; old artists, new artists, old artist with new bands, everything. Despite being young and always looking to the future I still occasionally like to look back and see what produced the roots to today's music. So whether you're like me, and part of "Generation Y" or from the "Greatest Generation" take time this week to appreciate some of music's greats as well as some of its future stars. SHOWS FOR THE WEEKEND: Saturday May 8th: Who doesn't love some good old [...]

New music video for "Scared To Death" by Finland's H.I.M. from the album "Screamworks..."
"Scared to Death," the new video from H.I.M., is insanely glossy, to the point where, even though there's not really that much going on, I kinda wonder how much it cost. Not much, I hope, 'cause it bores the crap outta me. Ville walks! There are some pyramid thingies! It looks pretty but none of [...]
