Hipnosis gehörten zur Speerspitze der Italo-Disco-Welle. Im Gegensatz zu den meisten ihrer Artgenossen, die ihre Hits in akzentgefärbtem Englisch einsangen, sind die Stücke des Trios rein instrumental. Hipnosis begannen ihre Karriere beim legendären Italo-Disco-Label Memory Records. Erstmals ist das Trio aus Parma 1983 mit einem Cover von Jean-Michel Jarre's "Ogygene" in Erscheinung getreten. Nach einer Maxi mit discoiden Versionen von Vangelis' "Pulstar" und "End Title" von Blade Runner veröffentlichten Hipnosis zwei Eigenkompositionen, die von ZYX Records erfolgreich international vermarktet wurden. This short lived Italo-disco gruppo had a member of Kirlian Camera in it and these tracks were in fact produced with Italo kingpin Koto. Although enmeshed in Italo-ness, their inspiration came from Greek god of synth pads, Vangelis (born Evangelos Odysseas Papathanassiou), the composer responsible for the Chariots of Fire soundtrack. I suppose it is true Italo-disco fashion that Hipnosis produced mainly covers...strangely they were mainly of Vangelis (a cover of Oxygene is also extant).
