"Taking your time is important." This is a guideline that the members of American Royalty follow with no exceptions. And with their time, spent right, comes a result unlike anything their peers would have guessed. Some consider their sound a mix psychedelic blues-rock and raw electronic tracks most fit for a festival. I wouldn't know what to call it either, and I think that's the best part. In an era where dance music, and even rock, is disgustingly forced out and people's tastes are compromised in favor of the mainstream market's demands, American Royalty have found a way to develop [...]
![Top 50 Songs of 2012 :: [40-31]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4689273_lg.jpg)
Welcome to our annual countdown of the 50 best songs of the calendar year . Songs must be from an EP, LP or demo released during 2012 and no band may appear twice. Today, we count down 40 to 31. 40. Howth - "Secret Goldmine" Howth, all rich with horns and moral victories offered the outlines of a clandestine financial reserve on glittering single, "Secret Goldmine". A down-stroke guitar and drums cribbed from the National's catalog, "Secret Goldmine" was an unrequited [...]
![[UPCOMING SHOW] PAPA & Grouplove @ First Avenue Mainroom (11/10)](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4607719_lg.jpg)
Excuse me for a second as I scream a mental 'Hell Yeah' due to the fact that I'll be seeing both PAPA and Grouplove just two days from now. Grouplove has been one of my favorite bands to watch evolve over the past year after the huge success of their full-length debut Never Trust a Happy Ending . I have missed them once coming through Minneapolis and that just isn't going to happen again. PAPA, on the other hand, is a band that has recently made their way onto my iPod rotation. Just a couple [...]

SGTMT

Tweet Here at SGTMT HQ we have damp issues. No, don't worry Tim hasn't been wetting the bed again, he assures us it won't happen again and he's very embarrassed about it so please don't mention it or tell anyone. No the damp is in the walls, and apparently it's either penetrative, rising or due to condensation. Urgh. Sadly our DIY skills are somewhat lacking. The front door is held on by gaffa tape and we just painted the windows rather than [...]

Everything RAC touches turns into audible gold. RAC has taken this fairly delicious pop number by Princeton and brought it into this raw dimension introducing wistful guitar strings which truly takes you into the land of all things dreamy and soft. Soft is a really apt way of comparing the original and the RAC mix which I guess is really uncommon when you think of what remixes/mixes generally sound like. Usually they're dancier and for lack of a better word 'ravier' but I really appreciate [...]

L.A.’s Princeton (take a sec to wrap your head around that geographical conundrum) occupy a pleasant space between indie pop and synth rock with their latest long-play, Remembrance of Things to Come . Backed by orchestral septet Los Angeles New Music Ensemble, the album paints shiny edges around already shimmering pop sounds. With subdued synths and energetic rhythms, it's the kind of musical styling that's a prime template for electrified remixes. Ah, the remix. Drop in a new beat, buzz and zap some synths, cut and warp the vocals, and voilà, [...]

CONNECTED FASHION FESTIVAL ON SATURDAY MAR. 31ST, 850 SOUTH HOPE STREET, LOS ANGELES. 11:00AM-5:00PM/ $7 OR $5 WITH CANNED FOOD DONATION/ ALL AGES.

We're still recovering from SXSW (and we left early). The week long madness of music and drinking does get tiresome, but alongside good friends at Guns In The Sun, Hit City USA, and MFG, we presented an awesome showcase on Friday featuring some of our favorite artists around right now. It started with Harriet, the on the rise Los Angeles group powered by vocalist Alex Casnoff and the deserved hit "We Slept With All Mothers." It continued onwards with heavy sets from punk visitors The Shrine and The Men, crowd pleasing hip hop by A.Dd+, epic anthems from [...]
![[Review/Listen] – Princeton – “Remembrance Of Things To Come”](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4120699_lg.jpg)
Hailing from the lovely little land of Los Angeles, Princeton 's sophomore effort, with its oxymoronic title "Remembrance Of Things To Come" , is a feast of pop orchestration. Released at the end of February on Hit City U.S.A., this record feels like a twenty dollar bill burning a hole in the pocket of a broke teenager. Compulsive, richly ornate and yet somehow studied, the mastermind identical twins behind this project, Matt and Jesse Kivel, have created a collection of songs that emphasize a reflection on the direction that pop music can go when [...]

Here's a huge announcement: Quit Mumbling, Guns In The Sun, Hit City USA, & MFG present Spring Break, an unofficial SXSW event. Collectively, we're bringing you some of our favorite music from the last two years. The Men's sophomore release Open Your Heart has quickly jumped to the top of our favorite releases so far this year, with a killer tracklisting of melodic, full throttle punk rock. By year's end, we are sure this will still be on rotation, and for that reason, we can't wait to host them. Hooray [...]

Remembrance Of Things To Come è la traccia che apre e dà il nome al nuovo album di #Princeton , in uscita per Hit City USA il prossimo 21 Febbraio.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that PAPA was one of our favorite acts of 2011. We gave " I Am The Lion King" our enthusiastic seal of approval, posted an amazing session with them featuring stand out tracks from their phenominal EP A Good Woman Is Hard To Find , and finally included them in our end of the year lists . We are therefore super stoked to announce PAPA live at One-Eyed Gypsy in Downtown Los Angeles on January 21, 2012. Quit Mumbling and their label Hit City [...]
No one said you haven't heard this before. In fact, all of these probably seems familiar. Big, tight guitars that feel like they're ripped out of a Free Energy studio session power the breaks in PAPA's "I Am The Lion King". The lyrics are those confessional kind, said with arched eyebrows, a shrug and one of those tautological resignations like, "It is what it is." And for existential questions

"I Am The Lion King" is the song, enjoy in both soundcloud and video form below. Starts with kind of an "Electric Feel"? Found at FWBA . PAPA: I Am The Lion King by Hit City USA PAPA: "I Am The Lion King" from Hit City U.S.A. on Vimeo .

PAPA's amazing new EP officially came out yesterday on Hit City U.S.A . and Psychedlic Judaism . The band are currently out on tour with Girls but will celebrate their EP Release next Wednesday Oct. 12th at The Bootleg. I think I've said this numerous times before especially via Twitter - YOU NEED THIS. Pick up the EP on 123 vinyl right here . RSVP for the release show on facebook below! RSVP HERE Hit [...]

Hard-nosed football teams aside, Papa consists of Darren Weiss and Daniel Present, a hard working, indoor sky-dive loving, blue collar rock group out of Los Angeles. Named after the childhood vernacular that Darren Weiss assigned to his badass of a grandfather (read Nylon interview ,) Papa bring us an upbeat, mid-fidelity "afternoon drive up the California coast" track inspired by the act of intentionally letting love go, even if it may not be for the best. I don't know if you were one of the masses digging on Dirty Gold's California Sunrise , but this track reminds me [...]
