Hjaltalín - Traffic Music Triumphant Icelandic pop put to great effect in this mixed-media animation video which is as colourful as it is incomprehensible. Hjaltalín were singled out for praise after Jim Carroll' s recent scouting mission to the Eurosonic festival showcase in Holland. Hjaltalin is a nine piece ensemble who were crowned ' Brightest Hope' at last year's Icelandic music awards and on the strength of this song, promise to live up to those expectations. A band with a distinct indie-rock meets Baroque sound, Pale Young Gentlemen write songs that are pleasant to listen to but contain an underlying, unidentifiable haunting tone. Hjaltalin are Iceland's newest about-to-be export, a band that has already been nominated for five Icelandic Music Awards, going on to win "Best Songwriter" and "Brightest Hope." Pretty awesome for a young band, eh? They are made up of eight members, playing the traditional guitar, bass and drums as well as piano, accordion, clarinet, cello, bassoon and violin the compliment the vocals. Seeing as I'm yet to hear this album in it's entirely, you probably wouldn't classify this as a traditional review. Instead, I am inviting you into the process of consideration, as I try to decide whether this is an album worth investing in. Þá er komið að síðustu færslu ársins og er hún, eins og kannski gefur að skilja, í spikfeitari kanntinum. Árið fannst mér óvenju gott tónlistarlega séð og þá sérstaklega hérna heima. Í fyrra átti ég í miklum vandræðum með að búa til topp fimm lista yfir íslenskar plötur og hvað þá topp tíu sökum þess hversu fár almennilegar plötur komu út.
