Hockey, Passion Pit (pictured top) and Bear Hands (pictured right) have all announced that they're all off on tour together early next year. The three bands will share the bill for all dates on the tour apart from at the London Cargo (February 23), where Passion Pit will not play. Tickets are on sale now, priced at £7 for all dates except for London which is £8.50 a ticket. Tuesday 17th February 2009 - Brighton Audio ( Ticketweb , [...]

The only thing that could have made this video more awesome, was if the bear went on a rampage and attacked the petty little humans.?? But seriously, why can't Discovery Channel or the other science related channel make a show about animals doing human things??? I would pay anything to see that. Gig Of The Week - Vivian Girls - Brixton Windmill Brooklyn's Vivian Girls have had a whirlwind 2008. Recently named in Rough Trade's 50 albums of 2008 (#9, no less), the band follows support slots with Deerhunter, Fucked Up and Love is All over in the States with a couple of shows here in London. The first is the peach, set in the dark, cramped surroundings of Brixton's tiny Windmill venue. The sound is resolutely lo-fi, with hints of Sarah Records influence along with classic girl group vs Jesus And Mary Chain noise. So [...]
White Fang More new music on the second hour of this week's Pampelmoose edition of the New Music Hour on Portland's 94.7FM. This show is devoted in its entirety to Portland bands. Just a handful of the hundreds of amazing bands in this city. Portland take a bow. I'm on 94.7FM with resident DJ Squid every [...]

Portland's HOCKEY, a band we can't get enough of around FSHQ, have signed to Capitol Records. Get over to their Myspace page and listen to " Too Fake " or " Song Away " and you'll see why this band was being courted by many. Seeing Hockey live is where the magic happens, it adds a dimension of the soul stomp of SAM & DAVE to the funky, white boy-ness of '70's era Mick Jagger, while somehow managing to feel [...]
![EVERY[TRIPLE SINGLE]DAY #35 _ ESSER, HOCKEY & HAPPY MONDAYS](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1312701_lg.jpg)
L'étincelle qui déclencha ce "dancefloor burn-out" est l'album " Squirrel And G-Man Twenty Four Hour Party People Plastic Face Carnt Smile (White Out)" des HAPPY MONDAYS . Avec la Factory, en plein "Madchester", Shaun Ryder était le pyromane en chef. Depuis, Esser, [...]
It's a sad sign of the once-proud NHL's booking power when the only band they can get for their opening-night festivities these days is Def Leppard, the still-kicking British outfit that's much better known for being riotous fans of footy . More evidence that the Leps probably have no idea what a "Nordique" ever was came during said show, when lead singer Joe Elliott was triumphantly handed the Stanley Cup by two Red Wings... and promptly put it on a nearby table upside down . (Of course, he explained the screwup by saying, "We're soccer boys, what do [...]

When The Automatic very first rolled up onto the 'scene', I, like most people, thought much of them. There was nay snobbery, just pure downright indie durability. Then 'Monster' happened. Like an England second half at Wembley, it all went a tad loco. It wasn't at all their gain in eminence, but just how nettlesome the song had become. It was almost unlistenable. Same kinda thing could well happen to Hockey. Right now I cannot dig 'Song Away' enough. It's total pop gold, spread like Team Waterpolo sprawling in the sweetest jam possible with only Lizzie McGuire when she's at [...]
Wouldn't it be great if Julian Casablancas and James Murphy had met in 80s New York and become inseperable buddies, dragging each other in and out of CBGBs and Studio 54 before sitting down to read William Blake and discuss the human condition? Imagine the infectious, literate, soul-addled music they might make. Now listen to Hockey. After the jump Ben Grubin, singer with this explosive Portland quartet, answers our three little questions.
Photo by Peter Murray, via the band's MySpaceMaybe the Hockey connection is about using cameras as face plates? I've been meaning to write about Hockey for ages, but have been distracted by the reams of good shows that Portland's lucky...
Portland's Hockey, who I've been a fan of for some time, get the love from the Guardian Music Blog this week. Hockey could easily be enjoyed by Dylan, Springsteen and Hold Steady fans as much as they could by devotees of LCD Soundsystem and their ilk. In fact, if James Murphy ever decides to produce the [...]

Lately it seems like my immediate mind association with the word "hockey" (along with lipstick and pitbulls i guess) is Sarah Palin, which, as I'm sure you are aware, is the worst epic fail thing i could be thinking about at any given moment. Lucky for me, and maybe you too, there is a completely awesome new band that will make your hockey related thoughts a happy place again. First, the facts: Hockey are from Portland Oregon, there are four of them (as evidenced by the above photo, duh), and they have an album out [...]

I will be attending Monolith Festival next weekend, and I am excited about the festival's recent addition of Portland, Oregon's Hockey. I love The Rapture, and Hockey's sound is eerily similar at times. I know that this Portland group must have heard The Rapture's 2006 album "Pieces of the People We Love" the opening track "Too Fake" on Hockey's "Mind Chaos" patterns itself directly after "Whoo! Alright, Yeah... Uh Huh" on The Rapture's album. Fortunately, for both Hockey and our ears the album diverges from this point on. If you like Ghostland Observatory, The Rapture, Miss Fairchild or !!! I [...]
Really, what is there to do with a day? After reading James Murphy's latest myspace blog entry , the rest of the day seems pretty open. But reading about how the Monolith Music Festival is planning on doing the 2nd Annual Monolith Festival Urban Reforestation Project (On September 11 at 11:30 a.m. over 570 children associated with CP of Colorado will gather at the CP of Colorado's new Vanguard Classical School campus in Denver to learn about urban reforestation through tree plantings and the benefits their actions have on the environment. Aristeia ::: Photo by Josh So last Thursday we get there expecting Hockey at 10. Instead Ms Led who was originally headlining, asked if they could play second to last since they were going to be heading down to be counselors at that rock camp for girls in Portland the following day. Anyways, to make a long story short, Hockey ended up playing last and Aristeia was the first band we got. It all worked out though. Generally I don't like prog/experiemental/instrumenta l bands. While most go big, in my mind very few have the [...]
