Dearest Reader, Are you looking for a cool, new band to watch ? Something to put on your MP3 player that'll make you cooler than the rest of the fellas/dudettes ? Look no further than the jangly guitar rock of Holiday Shores . They hail from Tennessee, but sound much closer to New York. The trebled six-string echoes of Abe Vigoda and the Walkmen are a good comparison, but you might find Holiday's pop sensibility to be a little more straightforward. The band has [...]

This week, we join the Akron/Family. The freewheeling folk interpretations of Akron/Family are a sonic playground. It's experimental rock that's always in the mood to play--even in its most mellow moments. The band's new LP is Set 'Em Wild, Set 'Em Free , and we're playing track from it like it's nobody's business. We've also got new stuff from a lo-fi project out of New York, Blank Dogs, and a tasty debut from Holiday shores. It's an unpredictable podcast... The Needle Drop: 06-06-09 [...]

MP3: Holiday Shores - Phones Don't Feud

It's been a strange past couple of days. These two shows took place on two different nights, but the past 48 hours have sort of melted together into one long medga-day. I figured I'd just lump both of these concert experiences into one post, rather than get behind. I saw the gentleman in the photos above showing off his timely "wavves meltdown" t-shirt to his friends, and I asked if I could snap a photo. I thought it was pretty funny, since Wavves' recent hissy fit was one of the best moments of schadenfreude I've ever experienced. Turns [...]

Holiday Shores - "Phones Don't Feud" ; Welcome back once again to the year of lo-fi. If you're still feeling it despite the horrible WAVVES breakup this weekend then please proceed to one of the finer examples being offered this year from a brand new act that is sure to pick right where the last one self destructed. If you are sick of it at this point please feel free to skip ahead at any point. Grade : B+ [...]

[mp3] Holiday Shores: "Phones Don't Feud" (via Fader ) Today marks another entry in our quest for the best summer playlist. We're not talking about "Thong Song" here, we're thinking more along the lines of Little Joy's record from last year, The Underwater People's Compilation from this year or pretty much any collection of David Byrne or Marisa Monte. From what we've heard of the band Holiday Shores , their melodies are relaxed and catchy as shit, [...]

Holiday Shores - "Phones Don't Feud" From the forthcoming Columbus'd The Whim , out 8/4 on Two Syllable Records
I was supposed to sit on this summer surprise until later in the week but a slight change in plans brought this band out into the open sooner rather than later. Good thing too, for Holiday Shores have been on my radar since their primitive music-making days under the moniker Continental Divide. Our good friends and SXSW day party collaborators at twosyllable records are doing quite well building up an arsenal of blossoming acts (See: New Villager & Bell ) that [...]
