One second. Sometimes that's all a photographer gets - and hardly in ideal conditions. At worst (and most likely), a photographer may be squeezed between 15 others in the pit, mere feet away from pyrotechnics, finding support from stress-rattled knees, while focusing on a spastic frontman and sheltering oneself from a downpour, which may or may not involve a hailstorm. Truth: A great photographer handles the unenviable task of capturing that one moment everyone goes home thinking about. Half-truth: There's probably a statistic somewhere that discusses what the job does to the heart. If not, there should be a study. Double-truth: [...]
I think this was the 19th CMJ I have attended and though they don't call it the Music Marathon anymore, it still feels like it. SXSW is like that too, shows all day and night, but when you live in NYC and you're expected to do work too... you're running on fumes by the end. There weren't as many big names this year which turned out to be good. Most of the bands I saw were either entirely new to me, or I'd never seen them live before. Here's a rundown. Top Five CMJ Performances [...]
Those Hollerado dudes have been doing well for themselves, despite not releasing a new album in a couple of years. They've got a new single called "Good Day at the Races." Go to Exclaim! to read my story about it (and go here to learn about my role in making their "Meet the Mayor" tour actually happen). Below you can watch the video for "Good Day at the Races," which shows the guys racing ostriches. For real. The song introduces just a hint of art rock quirk [...]
So, CMJ. It's begun. This year we decided to get our shots in early, in some sort of a sado-masochistic attempt to be as lifeless by Sunday as possible, apparently. That means a party last night, and a party tonight. For Tuesday night's bill, we joined forces with Popgun Booking to present NJ wit/punk firebrands Titus Andronicus. They played for over 90 minutes and to countless fist-pumps, until roughly 2AM, and thus were perfect for our ad hoc shattered-by-Sunday strategy. It is unethical to critically assess the performers on your own bill, so we'll leave that to our friends [...]
Earlier this month, the group of childhood friends from Ontario, Canada who form the band Hollerado released their latest single "Good Day At The Races," along with the b-side "Walkin Out On Daytime." Additionally, a music video for "Good Day At The Races" is currently available for your viewing pleasure, and features footage of the band partaking in an ostrich riding race at a farm in Kansas. After considering the addition of riding an ostrich to your bucket list, pick up a copy of "Good Day At The Races" through iTunes . [...]
Photo by Cap Blackard It's been a "gnarly" year for Ontario's Hollerado . They've shared the road with Gang of Four, threw one dynamite nacho party at SXSW, and met several mayors on their recent Meet the Mayor Tour. Now, they return with "Good Day at the Races", their latest digital single out on Arts & Crafts. Although that song may ring a bell (it was included on the band's mixed compilation, Margaritaville 2: The Reckoning , last year), you probably haven't heard its B-side, "Walkin Out on Daytime". Fortunately for you, we've got [...]

Hollerado – Good Day at The Races
The hard-working lads in Hollerado are finally coming to Halifax this Friday night when they'll be playing the Seahorse. Looks like there are still a few tickets left , so check them racing ostriches above, in their new video for Good Day at The Races, for the kind of action I'm assuming you'll see at their show.

Watch Hollerado race Ostriches in their new video for "Good Day At The Races"!!
Watch Hollerado race Ostriches in video for new single "Good Day At The Races"! The band that brought you the insane, one-take Human 8-bit video for "Americanarama," SXSW's now-infamous Nacho House, and countless other wonderfully irreverent ideas and infectious songs, now returns with a new video for its latest single "Good Day At The Races." Hollerado - Americanarama video: Yes, Hollerado is back with "Good Day At The Races," a simply amazing slow motion look inside [...]

Video: Hollerado, 'Got To Lose'
Canadian four-piece band Hollerado made a huge splash in the Internet waves last year thanks to their video for "Americanarama," and they're back to tout another low-budget, one-take masterpiece for the latest single off of their debut album, "Record in a Bag." Although the video for "Got To Lose" doesn't involve any people in boxes for a "Human 8-bit vibe," Greg Jardin returns as the director for the new clip, which features elaborate umbrella choreography this time around. Even when surrounded by elegant dancers, these boys have a hard time hiding the fact that they're constantly having fun. [...]
Broken Social Scene, K'Naan, Nelly Furtado and More React to Election Results
Filed under: News Getty Images (2) | YouTube Last night (May 2), Canadians watched the results of the country's federal election with the Conservatives achieving a majority government. An array of Canadian acts have weighed in on the outcome, some offering more pointed barbs than others: "When you are forced to choose between foolish men, sometimes you must believe in the power of the MAGICAL MOUSTACHE," Broken Social Scene singer Kevin Drew [...]
Hollerado lança clipe coreografado para a canção "Got to Lose"
Got to [...]
Watch: Hollerado – "Got to Lose"
Someone call OK Go, because the competition is heating up. Hollerado 's video last year for "Americanarama" gave those treadmills a run for their money. Now the Ontario power poppers have brought back director Greg Jardin for another innovative one-take video, this time for "Got to Lose". This one takes place in a dark, empty studio but couldn't feel any less dark or empty. It features complex choreography involving the dance troupe Atomic Cherry Bombs and a lot of umbrellas. The song itself will convince you Weezer never changed, but moved to Canada and hid [...]
Hollerado Brave Umbrella 'Obstacle Course' for 'Got to Lose' -- Video Premiere
Filed under: News , Video , Exclusive Press Here Publicity Montreal rock outfit Hollerado is always prepared to face the toughest storm -- with a couple of handy umbrellas, of course. The indie band has been through a whirlwind tour over the last year, traveling to China and beyond to promote their creative 2010 release 'Record in a Bag,' which includes 'Got to Lose,' a Weezer -like anthem that is sure to get you [...]

Arcade Fire, Neil Young big winners at 2011 Juno Awards
Since 1970, the Juno Awards have served as Canada's equivalent to the Grammys, only it didn't take 40 years for Neil Young to nab an honor ( Harvest Moon took home the Juno for Best Album in 1994). This year's awards were handed out this weekend, and along with Young scoring both Artist of the Year and Adult Alternative Album of the Year for Le Noise , Arcade Fire was the night's other big winner. The Win Butler-led outfit and their third LP The Suburbs [...]
