Remember the Vans Warped Tour? Well, the Mad Decent Block Party is exactly like that, but instead of high school kids smoking cigarattes and ditch weed while complaining about their parents, you have club kids taking Molly and complaining about how the universe is one. Or something. If you didn't understand the above paragraph because, as a teenager, you weren't cool enough to see Fall Out Boy before they got famous (I was unfortunately this cool), here's a much, much more basic overview of what the Mad Decent Block Party is. Mad Decent is [...]

I love mashups without a hint of guilt - fuck off if you're gonna hate. This is the first part in a really ass-long series of bangin' versus's: 1) Knife (Grizzly Bear Remixed) - Girl Talk 2) Everlasting Shine Blockaz - Wick-it the Instigator 3) Lil Kim (feat. Missy Elliott) vs MGMT - Can You Hear My Kids Now - The Hood Internet 4) No Karma - Jaydiohead 5) Losing Your Virginity - Hollertronix 6) Lights Out - E-603 7) Ben Is Chasing Beautiful [...]
A sit-down with DJ duo The Hood Internet in South Korea brought up topics like traveling, real-life occupations, and Korean alcohol. Their music, which is renowned for its hybrid of indie-rock and hip-hop, has been critically acclaimed for the loose, party atmosphere it provides, which is precisely what Daegu's Club Urban was treated to a few weeks ago.
If you're looking for some fun this weekend you could do a lot worse than to venture down to Fabric to see Jackmaster. Not only did he have us dancing round our bedrooms earlier this year with... [[ This is a content summary only. Visit my website for full links, other content, and more! ]]

This week, Mad Decent released the 10th and final installation of their legendary Hollertronix series. It's hard to explain the magic of the Hollertronix releases, as they've showcased so many various sounds. They masterfully combine the DIY/Hip-Hop attitude, with relentless club energy, that will work on nearly any dancefloor. Back in the day, when I was a Hip-Hop enthusiast and DJ, Hollertronix provided my first glimpse into the crazy world of uptempo dance music. Its a bit sad to see it coming to an end, but they certainly go out with a bang. [...]

This week marks the release of the final installment in what has been one of the most consistent and interesting remix series of the decade. Flipping the brand that he and Low Budget had built off of their legendary parties at the Ukie in Philadelphia, Diplo's vinyl (and now digi-) releases have featured an eye-popping roster of guest producers, including Buraka Som Sistema, Blaqstarr, A-Trak, Eli Escobar, Scotty B, and DJ Sega, and have helped expose the Chips and Beckies of the world to 21st century dance trends such as B-more Club, Baile Funk and massssh-ups. [...]

R.I.P. Hollertronix series, that club staple borne in Philly by Diplo and Low B that, in its lifetime, has seen the pair rise from small time basement collaborators and underground party hustlers to major label players and arena rockers. It helped introduced the world to Bmore and Balie Funk music and let DJs know it was okay to embrace a pluralistic club experience where it's more than okay to crunch up a set with indie, hip hop and dance music. The seeds of Hollertronix are sown, but now they've grown, with the departure of Low B, [...]

It's always sad to see the end of something, especially when that something has brought so much joy into your life and the lives of others. What am I mourning? It's the conclusion of the Hollertronix 123 vinyl series. Hollertronix was a party thrown by Diplo and Low Budget in Philadelphia, it was also used as their DJ duo name. Their party eventually led to the two putting out some very groundbreaking mixtapes that are now classics in the underground/ Indie dance music scene. After the two separated to chase their individual goals, Hollertronix continued as a series [...]

One of the most influential DJs on dance party culture talks to Gimme Noise before his gig tonight at Cryphy.
Taken from the seminal Hollertronix Vol. 3 is an old guilty pleasure of mine which took me forever to track down. It's a collision of Sizzla's I'm With The Girls and Bronski Beat's Smalltown Boy spruced up with some baile funk drums. Originally, I think Sizzla spat this one on the Military Riddim , which is downright filthy as well. Also, as far as I can tell DJ ABCDEFG does not exist... Nick Catchdubs has his plate full and he wants to share it with you. His music-making journey started with a high school band. In college he designed graphics for Hollertronix and made obsessive mix tapes for graduation parties before becoming a DJ and founding a successful record label. Since realizing DJ-ing is what he wanted to do after hearing mixes from Hollertronix, Mark Ronson and others, it has been a learning experience for Nick. His budding love of music has led him to grow within circles of friends and artists. In his early years, Nick observed the likes of Cosmo [...]

Just got back from jet-setting around the world (aka driving 7 hours from Boston to New York..if you think you want that, you don't..trust) and happened to be bestowed with a few B-more-esque jams that are fairly related. The first is from Low B , co-founder of Hollertronix (along with this whitie named Diplo ...whatever, not important) and one of M.I.A.'s DJs. Seems like he's getting back into the swing of things after a little hiatus and there's only more of that good shit to come. The second is from Rene Goulet , who whipped up a sweet [...]
