Swedish punk band Holograms came out with their debut self-titled LP yesterday and thanks to Stereogum , we have the brilliant record for readily available streaming here for you below. Brimming with beautiful synths and instrumentation that will make your eyes gloss over like a starry and humid night, it's absolutely divine. The LP is out now via Captured Tracks (home to Wild Nothing and DIIV).
Despite being perpetually too poor to drink dusted dive-bar drafts, Stockholm’s Holograms still manage to projectile vomit their fare share of poison. Their regurgitations originate more from the nausea inherent with menial labor in the desolate warehouses of Sweden than alcohol abuse; ultimately making it more enjoyable to sift through. SURFING ON STEAMMuch like the slow-building and soaring lead-off track “ Monolith ”, “A Tower” derives it’s strength from saying less (lyrically) and allowing the repetition of the central chorus (guitars) to expand. A lot of punk bands will cram together as much as they can, which is understandable because it can create a frenzy of raw emotions, and that works with fast-paced noisy-as-fuck rock. Auf ein neues...So sehr ich die Vorabsongs von ihrem nun erst am 27.07. erscheinenden Debüt mochte, gab's doch drei Bedenkpunkte bei Holograms : Einmal, dass sie doch vom Gesang her arg an Iceage erinnerten. Dann halt das typische Captured-Tracks-Syndrom mit feinen Vorab-Singles, die sich dann zu variationsarm über ein Album überdehnen. Und schließlich die Tatsache, dass der letzte Song der Wave-Punks mit Sweden's Pride nebst einer Zeile ihrer Nationalhymne benannt ist - doch zumindest letztere Befürchtung darf als entkräftet gelten: Dabei handelt es sich um ein antinationalistisches Albumfinale.
