Holopaw's axe master Patrick Quinney reveals a secret love of Twin Peaks , a deep knowledge of all things Craig Biggio, and the 7" he'd love to argue with you about. Holopaw's twisting, nervy brand of indie guitar-rock has assuredly not gone unnoticed - but in the last couple of years, it certainly has been missed. After releasing two albums on Sub Pop (2003's Holopaw and 2005's Quit +/or Fight), the band -- featuring the long-standing duo of Jeff Hays and Ugly Casanova's John Orth -- suffered from touring fatigue, eventually making way for the departure of all [...]
The second annual Harvest of Hope Music Festival will return to St. Augustine, FL this March 12-14, and one thing is becoming quite clear: music's most underrated music festival is quickly becoming one of music's most stellar music festivals. This year's lineup once again again showcases a diverse roster of national and international acts, including alt-rock legend Billy Bragg, acclaimed folk-rock outfit The Mountain Goats, psychedelic rockers Dr. Dog, indie sensations Rogue Wave, UK punk band Leatherface, and the hardcore group Senses Fail. And that's just getting started. Man Man, Delta Spirit, Anti-Flag, The [...]

Time for some recent stuff that caught our ears here at For The Sake Of The Song headquarters. All the tracks in this refreshing ten pack either came out recently or will be released in the very near future. O man, can´t wait for that new Tunng album. But don´t stop there, we´ve got a lot more excellent tunage here. Try the intimate sound of The Fools for instance, a very promising girl duo from New York City. Or take the crispy folk rock of Timothy Cushing from Maine, the lush [...]
Listening : 1. Holopaw : Not only does this band play creative pop music, but they have a strong love for independent artists. Listen to : The Art Teacher and the Little Stallion ( mp3 ) 2. Says She's Ms. Blat : A little Fiona Apple, a little something all them own, this band's free debut LP can be downloaded here . 3. Good Shoes : They call it sleezy-disco, but I just call it fun pop music. You can download their single "Under Control" here . [...]
Holopaw strikes new ground here, moving away from the humble shuffle of previous albums and into something more intricate and more expansive. This new Holopaw should stay around awhile. It's been four years since the last Holopaw record, and a lot has changed for these guys, apparently all for the better. For one, they've shifted from indie giant Sub Pop to the smaller Bakery Outlet label, essentially setting out on their own for Oh, Glory. Oh, Wilderness.. Just that shift in labels alone is a smart move for Holopaw, since over at Sub Pop, with their soft, shuffling sound, [...]

Holopaw - Black Lacquered Shame Artist: Holopaw Album: Oh Glory Oh Wilderness Release Date: Nov 24, 2009 Label: Bakery Outlet

Holopaw invited twelve visual artists to reinterpret their newest album "Oh Glory, Oh Wilderness"
It's pretty incredible to think that the holiday season is here. It seems like just yesterday we were ringing in 2009, a year, which as we eventually discovered, would be beyond our wildest imaginations. From the scorching musical brilliance of Bonnaroo to the incredible weekend that was Lollapalooza ; from our interviews with Tom Jones , Slayer , Passion Pit , Pavement , Ben Kweller , and Ms. Consequence of Sound herself, Regina Spektor , to debates over the metal heads , 311 , and Albums [...]

The Retelling Project: Holopaw invited two dozen visual artists to interpret its latest album, 'Oh, Glory. Oh, Wilderness'. 24 visual artists were asked to respond to/remix/reimagine Holopaw's latest album, 'Oh, Glory. Oh, Wilderness'. The name of the project was derived from a line in the song "The Lazy Matador" that reads, "In the retelling let it be rendered just a pinprick, just a puncture, just a scratch." The contributions to 'The Retelling' project took the form of painting, drawing, collage, video, film, and performance. Holopaw is currently in the [...]
Memory Tapes - "Graphics" Single Memory Tapes (a.k.a. Weird Tapes, a.k.a. Memory Cassette) is the project of Philly producer Davye Hyde. Although I haven't gotten around to reviewing his excellent full length record S eek Magic yet, I didn't want to miss the chance to share his recently released free single for "Graphics" b/w the b-side "Easy Pert Mom." "Graphics" opens with a chirping electro-hum synths and Hyde's distant, buried under tape fuzz lyrics "I'll be your love / I'll be your friend / I'll be part of the illusion [...]

Inspired by the line "In the retelling let it be rendered just a pinprick, just a puncture, just a scratch," from their song "The Lazy Matador" Holopaw decided to recruit a couple dozen artists to 'respond to/remix/reimagine' their new album Oh, Glory. The bevy of paintings, drawings, collages, videos/films, and performances they got in response can be found over at the band's blog . Listen to their single "The Art Teacher and The Little Stallion" below and if you feel inspired the band would love you to send them your art . [...]
The band Holopaw first came to my attention in 2005 when they released their second album "Quit +/or Fight" via Sub Pop Records. Because I was intrigued with most things Sub Pop at the time (and in many ways, I still am), I was naturally inclined to check the band out. The positive reviews for that album helped as well, and the intriguing blend of Americana and electro-tweaks fascinated me to no end. Personally I thought that Holopaw were going to be soon on the rise, but they didn't seem to make very much of a dent or establish the [...]

HANK ALTOGETHER: "The Art Teacher and the Little Stallion" from Gainsville-based indie group Holopaw starts out slowly. It's not paint by numbers, but it takes you a minute to get to the teeth of the melody. Once its there, though, you feel somehow safe and at home. Comfortable and closer to something you already knew. This is the kind of indie rock your older brother introduced you to -- well placed, lush, finely crafted. It still hasn't gone out of style. Holopaw - [...]
