So if you have been on twitter recently, Lecrae , has been hitting timelines like crazy. If you're like me then you had to ask yourself, "Who is Lecrae?" Well, he's a Christian Hip Hop artist that spits bars over great sound. With the way hip hop is, all you hear about is women, cars and cash. Lecrae puts his faith first in his rhymes and speaks on his life and how his religion has played a major part in who he is. Lecrae's project has crazy production from Boi1da, 9th Wonder, Heat Academy and Street Symphony . [...]

Dillon Francis @ Holy Ship! Pre-Party 1/5/12 Part 1, Dillon Francis laying the heavy moombahton down!
If the pretty young things in Parisian fashion blogs like Garance Doré wrote songs, they would be like this : synth-y lullabies full of heart-bursting sincerity, plus that French je ne sais quoi. They would certainly sound like Birkii, the latest and greatest of the bubbling new french scene. But more Breakbot than Edith Piaf! [...]

Laidback Luke @ Holy Ship 2012

Holy From: Milan, Italy Lazy equation: (xHCx x Italy x very short songs) + veganism URL: Facebook // Twitter Thrash Hits Verdict: 8 songs. 11 minutes. They're the basic facts about HOLY's debut, self-titled EP - out today. If that doesn't tell you exactly why they piqued our interest then all might be lost. There's rawness about their music that really hits home. The anger in their songs is so bloody furious that you can't help but [...]

As 2011 draws to a close, I wanted to throw my own two cents in about what I considered the best albums of the year. 15. The Smile Sessions- The Beach Boys When Brian Wilson announced that The Smile Sessions would be released, I was ecstatic. I still don't own a box set to this day, but I've been [...]
We've tried them, and have to admit it - year end lists kind of suck. But then, we have a blog and we feel like we should at least try to recap the year, hopefully with a nod to the future. It's easy to gush about our favorite things, but hard to have to rank [...]

Holy is a FUCKING AWESOME shouty screamy hardcore punk from Milano, Italy. Lashings, of tough old-school styles meets Level Plane records screamo vocals. Short, fast, loud - 8 furious songs recorded pretty much over the course of a few days in a hot rehearsal studio in Italy. Their self titled ep is coming out January 23rd via the Berlin / Italian label, Hell, Yes . Quite a strange choice to for a label. You will recognize Hell yes via their Dum Dum Girls and Crocodiles releases. They've got a predominantly chillwave-y / garage roster, quite the [...]

With their own brand of breath-taking, mesmerising instrumental rock, Mono were already one of the most original, unconventional and awe-inspiring bands on the planet. The Japanese post-rockers fully cemented that status when they performed a 10th anniversary concert in New York, complete with a twenty-four-piece orchestra. The incredible performance was recorded for a live CD/DVD - Holy Ground:NYC Live With The Wordless Music Orchestra - and the band went on to take the special orchestra show to both Tokyo and Kuala Lumpar. It was great news indeed then to read that [...]
Phagwah Parade, by Taylor K. Long By Taylor K. Long My obsession with India could take up its own essay, its own series of essays, even, but it's not nearly as complex or compelling as the country itself. My first exposure to the Hindu holiday of Holi (also known as Phagwa(h), or "Festival of Colors") came via the Boston Globe's photojournalism blog The Big Picture. Visions of India always conjure an array of bright colors, but none so much as Holi, in short a celebration welcoming the beginning of spring, where people cover eachother in colored powders and liquid dyes. [...]

So, I love this, but the real reason I'm posting this is because the Guardian New Band of the Day article series is nearing its 1000 post and Paul Lester recently appeared on the music weekly podcast and spoke about them. The New Band of the Day article is a great read and a great source for finding new music. Yes, most of the time the bands hardly touch on mediocre but there are some absolute gems hidden amongst them. Such as Holy Other. What I've heard of Holy Other sounds like James Blake only reigned in [...]
