The Twang So far, this summer has been somewhat of a routine. Every day, I still have certain things to do at specific times, and it's gotten so monotonous that I've begun to randomly doze off in the middle of the oddest situations--during dinner, playing piano, even during Scrubs (Scrubs, people! Ahh!). But yeah, I leave for Deutschland in about 15 days now, so hopefully that'll break my spontaneous sleep schedule. This was ultimately supposed to lead to why I'm not posting like a machine, but I guess it got a little [...]

The good folks over at VBS got to spend a little quality time recently with our pals Holy Fuck at their practice space in Brooklyn. What the fuck is VBS, you say? VBS is an online broadcast network. We stream original content, free of charge and 24 hours a day. We carry a mix of domestic and international news, pop and underground culture coverage, and the best music in the world. People have used words like eclectic, smart, funny, shocking, and revolutionary to describe VBS, but we kind of just snapped our fingers in their faces [...]

Type Holy Fuck into google images... ok, you can expect some pr0n, that's a given, but Nintendo would be shocked at someones reworking of Mario. Anyway enough of that. Another band I'm I'm excited about... Holy Fuck hail from Toronto and make Kraut-Casio rock that sounds like Neu! at times and not at all at others. Two songs from their recently released e.p (and yes, the second title is all too perfect) The Pulse They're going to take my thumbs [...]
Opening band: Holy Fuck !!! (Chk Chk Chk) | Photo Gallery For some reason, I feel like I haven't been quite the same since returning from my honeymoon . Maybe it's because I'm married or perhaps I've been going to too many stadium shows, but I feel like I've definitely lost some of my edge. In an effort to regain some of my edginess, I'm going to curse extra (fucking) a lot in this post; this post will be my Scarface (which [...]
There's a bunch of good stuff going on in Austin tonight and tomorrow, so here's a quick one while I've got a minute. My inbox is kind of overflowed, but these are a few things that I found in there: "You might have heard about this, you might have already seen it, you may have no idea what I'm talking about, but below is a link to the video of Dawn Landes ' bluegrass cover of Peter Bjorn & John's "Young Folks." Dawn recorded the song with WST [...]
Let me let a few of you down right away. I didn't see the Slip . They seem like a swell band and their first 2 songs made me plenty curious but I had to roll. I did get to see Holy Fuck from Toronto, and I can tell you...You would never have another day without the shadow of shame stinging your soul if you miss this band when they come to your town. These guys build songs from the ground up, gluing bits of interstellar beeps and buzzes to a rhythm section [...]
So I`ve been dancing like a fool lately with all this good electronic music inside my head...(Cue Justice Clip) also the new Chromeo album is a treat to listen to, and the single " Fancy Footwork " (Album title of the same name) is Funky with a capital F... While on the subject of "F"... Toronto`s own Holy Fuck is set to open up for !!! [...]
So I was pretty upset to learn that I would be missing Holy Fuck's Kentucky date while at SXSW. They must've heard my groan, because they're coming back twice, with !!! Thanks guys. MP3: Holy Fuck - Safari (live on XM) Holy Fuck Tour Dates 04-21 Seattle, WA - Crocodile Café * 04-23 Portland, ...

With a current tour schedule opening for !!! (Chk Chk Chk) , Deerhoof , Wolf Parade , playing the John Peel stage at the Glastonbury Festival and a resume of recent tour mates including Do Make Say Think , Clinic , Mouse On Mars and Cornelius , you would think Holy Fuck would be a household name by now. Ok... maybe not household but at least entertaining a bidding war from every cleverly progressive indie label out there! Their latest self released EP is one of [...]
Here's what I've learned about SXSW . Be ready at any time to start drinking. Normally, this began around noon and wouldn't stop until around dinner or into the wee hours of the morning. Last week, I would occasionally wonder who was consuming more... college kids on spring break, or me in Texas on a business trip.... I spent the majority of the day working the Canadian Party at the Brush square. It took place in a little park outside of the Austin convention centre normally reserved for countries to host showcases/bar-b-ques. Of all the countries putting [...]

My interest in Holy Fuck since the last post hasn't really changed. Thought I'd pass along a new track since they've got a new EP coming out. I really like where they're going with their sound. ::: Holy Fuck - Lovely Allen Holy Fuck will be performing all new songs at Mod Club in Toronto on March 23rd. You can still get tickets through the normal outlets (Rotate This, Soundscapes, etc). [ Official Holy Fuck website .] [ Holy Fuck on myspace .] [ [...]

Wedsnesday I saw Ghostland Observatory at the Austin City Limits Studio, and chatted it up with the KEXP folks after their interview with Lily Allen. They said all of the people who came from Seattle felt right at home, speaking of all the rain over the past two days. After that I made my way down to Canadian Blast where I caught The Cliks , Holy Fuck and Malajube . Holy Fuck put on a really great show just as I suspected, and I think I'll try to catch them [...]

I will be otherly occupied for the next week. That's a vacation week, which is 9 days because vacations start on Firdays and end on Sundays. Due to this prolonged absence, I thought that I would beg you to come back and read more about music and, hell, 2 weeks of science news, with an offering of some songs that have been quieting the voices in my head as of late. New: The new Andrew Bird record, Armchair Apocrypha is that good. The song is a freebie from Fat [...]

Sinden ( CRED ) Wasted Brooklyn Youth Brooklyn is bass central this Saturday night (March 10th)! As previously mentioned here , Simian Mobile Disco will be destroying Studio B at the Fixed party . A bit further to the south, The Thug Wizzardry crew will be trying to blow speakers up at Savalas for Mad Suspect . [...]
How I've somehow overlooked a band like Holy Fuck for two years is beyond me. Their name alone should have branded itself to my frontal lobe (is that where memories are stored?), but somehow I only got my first taste of their self titled LP two months back. I quickly added it to my words and notes post, pairing it up with William Gaddis' final work, Agape Agape. The book deals with the

I saw Toronto's Holy Fuck last April when they opened for Wolf Parade for a bunch of shows and my impression was about as reactionary and explosive as their name suggests: Holy freaking GOD, man, these guys are good . I can liken their set to the unending barrage of other-wordly noise/dance/sweat/funk/noise that one experiences at their first rave, or bar mitzvah, or what-have-you. Needless to say, it was fucking intense . Holy Fuck's second effort after their eponymous debut LP is another eponymous EP : a spastic collection [...]
Page France - "Here's a Telephone" Rolling out of the cup as always with lyrics like a tap-dance, this is the 1:21 with the most fury (yes, even a distorted electric guitar) on the new Page France album. So much fury for his little all-carpet room, his little duck mouth, that it takes another 1:21 to calm down. Sweating, "gosh, I was so angry I almost swaggered." [Buy tour EP] Holy Fuck - "Lovely Allen" I went to the show tonight. Had some great moments, mostly driven to and found by the drummer. This is the first song off their [...]

photos from Grant Hall, Kingston, 28 February 2006 Do you like to dance? Of course you do. But being the cool rocker kid that you are, the sleazy meat markets aren't exactly your scene. Well, this is where Holy Fuck comes in. Using the weirdest assortment of sound-emitting devices (but without the aid of laptops) they create improvised dance music that will get your staid indie-ass moving. Their music is complexly layered, sometimes jarring but never without some serious beats, and is always incredible to watch. While I dig their record a lot, they [...]
