This live clip of Holy Spirits was shot by the Portland film crew Into The Woods in a special series they called Homesick (essentially them filming while on the road). Their New York stop couldn't have come at a better time. Occupy Wall Street was in its second month of protest against corporate greed and corruption and in full force while this clip was taken. Oh shoot! New video from the Silver Series ! Kenny edited this one by Holy Spirits , one of our collective favorites from the week. They were adventurous enough to perform in a sewer drain/cave type thing, underneath the bridge. The acoustics fit the band's haunting sound perfectly. Their minimalistic approach with harmonies and handclaps is stunning. It fills the space with a reverberating sound that echoed throughout. This a off their split with Mutual Benefit 12 inch via Father/Daughter Records . I love the concept for this video, a little girl playing with what I believe is a scarecrow friend (I had one of those as a kid! and by scarecrow I mean, Barbie). Beautiful, dreamy stuff, as always. Holy Spirits — Handmade Sun Yesterday The Decibel Tolls did the honors of premiering Holy Spirits ' "Handmade Sun", yet another stirring cut from their 12" split with Mutual Benefit (out now on Father/Daughter ). While the previously posted "To the Shore" was decidedly subdued, marked by sparse, delicate instrumentation and wavering vocals, "Handmade Sun" builds triumphantly over it's 6-minute runtime, reaching an eruption by its tail end. This is a rarer bird for us.. a folk-ish split! I don't recall the last time I heard one of these..let alone one I dug. Roomates on this plastic circle are NYC's Holy Spirits and Beantown/Columbus' Mutual Benefit. I am more partial to Holy Spirits more lush/grander vibe and vocal production over Mutual Benefit's sound. That being said, I dig Mutual Benefits' overall song structure and lyricism more.. so tough call haha Good thing I don't have to choose..if I did though.. I find myself listening to MB's tracks more and will absolumo be tracking down their next release! This is a pretty rad [...]
