Tuesday, October 28, 2008 I'm aware that things will be shooting back up into the mid-80s before the week ends, but isn't the cooler weather completely awesome? I mean, I feel like I can go to a show now and not come out completely drenched in sweat, which is pretty nice. Come on Winter! In non-weather related news, today I have an Austin-based act by the name of Honey Claws. There are a lot of bands here in town, so [...]
Aether is the alias from San Antonio producer Diego Chavez . On November 25th, Diego will release an tightly packed collection of beats called Artifacts on the Exponential Label. Launching the album with the beautifully down tempo "Forgive Me", which appeared on the collection Wait til the Ice Melts earlier this year, he sets the mood and pace early. As tranquil and detailed as the cover of Artifacts is, Diego's tracks are even more finite and enjoyable. A classic chill album from the hot electronic scene in Texas. Listen to: [...]
Platform 1 Entertainment sends along a recommendation to check out a Spokane, Washington-based indie-groove rock band, The Let Up. Consisting of 3 childhood friends(Cory Howard, Scottie Feider and Jeremy Luvaas), the trio released their debut album, Illustrate My Character, several months ago and it's full of a great mix of rock, soul, R&B and a few other sounds that have tagged this band as having a very unique sound. The band is currently touring out west with Flight 409 and [...]

Contemporary pseudo-Tropicália has recently experienced critical and commercial success in the form of releases from artists like Beck, El Guincho, and Animal Collective. Now, based in America's south rather than South America, the Texas group Honey Claws similarly synthesizes carnivalesque... [[ This is a content summary only. Meet Honey Claws, the electronic animal Four Texan dudes called Honey Claws have come into the fiesta and they're bringin' the future with them. A mostly electronic, mostly funky, 14-track hip-hop epic, Honey Claws' self-titled debut album is a pulsing, cursing, spitting, raving, fun-loving, literate, club-killing record bound to please the masses. Multi-instrumentalists Dr. Zero, Ben Senior, Jon Von Letscher, and Traey Hatch went down in the lab with a pen and a pad (in Austin and Houston, respectively) and [...]

Honey Claws is an eclectic electronic music foursome from that hip hop hotbed of Texas. The group's self-titled debut album was released last week. The band fuses chunks of electronic elements, like 80's techno pop and r&b together with minimalist hip hop beats to create a unique and entertaining party mix. You can hear an MP3 of the track "Shout Out" here: DOWNLOAD They are currently on tour of Australia and New Zealand. Hopefully we'll [...]

DISCLAIMER: I must apologize beforehand for being a tad-bit too personal, but writing about it helps my nerves. I know I havn't written in a while but I felt tonight finally warranted a worthy post. If anyone has ever experienced the nightmare that is a kidney stone then you know what I am going through right now. Having just returned from the ER with a new found respect for the human condition, I begin to prepare for the longest two days of my life. I now get to await the unnanounced arrival of [...]

From experimental indie trash rock to smooth as butter rap, Austin based collective Honey Claws is the balls. With walking bass lines that will rupture your spleen and flows that will melt your mind I suggest this band to anyone who likes A Tribe Called Quest, Animal Collective, or if you love it when your peanut butter and chocolate get mixed. It's Sunday again and it's time for the next installment of the Sunday Buffet. There's something here for everyone, so please be adventurous. Headlamp is a four piece from Brooklyn that plays great indie songs held together by the vocals/song writing of Chuck Criss and some banjo(?). It's like Clap Your Hands Say Yeah turning out a wicked sweet hoe-down. mp3: Headlamp - We Wish We Were Kids --> website --> buy [...]

I caught Honey Claws over SXSW week kinda by accident and they have managed to stick in the back of my mind for the past few weeks, so I though I might spread the relentlessness. This exper./electronic Austin quartet manage to combine an assortment of different candies in order to arrive first and foremost at an unapolgetic rant of digital mayhem, not unlike the robo-giraffe beast from Northfork, had he been wearing a power glove and a wet-suite. If you want a review read a magazine, but until then just trust me on these guys. [...]

I didn't realize until I just looked a second ago that I haven't done a More Music Monday in two months - holy shit. I knew I'd been busy with work, SXSW, being out of town, etc., but I hadn't realized it'd been this long. Shame on me; let's get this rolling again. I have been hearing a lot about The Heavy for a while now, ever since a kind PR person (Hi Ashley) dropped a MySpace link into my inbox a [...]

As most of the music world heads to Austin, Texas this week for the annual South By South West music festival I'm stuck here in my front bedroom doing the virtual bar crawl hunting for something new to listen to and re-living past SXSWs. Honey Claws is just the sort of thing I'd hope to run into at 1 A.M. my feet weary from the walking, my head hurting from all the rocking, but these grooves would buoy me up for another couple hours. These two tracks sound a bit like Nine Inch Nails tempered and mellowed through [...]
