one thing i really like about portland, oregon's honey clouds , is that they make me feel happy. its not cause their fall on the honey clouds is an overtly feel good-y record, but more because it feels comfortable and familiar. its like a warm blanket made up of a lot my, and presumably your, favorite bands. hopefully that wont be taken as a knock against the record, cause its actually its greatest strength. they pull pieces from the greats and make it their own, which could be quite the mess if attempted by lesser musicians. but [...]

So I haven't made a label playlist in a while and I noticed the good folks over at IODA have a fair amount from one of my favourite Portland (East side: Maine, not west side: Oregon) labels - Peapod Recordings! With the new Brown Bird album coming out, it reminded me that this label needs some more attention, and that is where I come in. There are quite a few great albums on the label - Brown Bird, Chriss Sutherland, South China and more. While most bands on the label are considered "indie" and even "folk" they range [...]

Honey Clouds newish album, Fall on the Honey Clouds, scared me a bit because I thought the Silver Jews and Pavement had created a new band. Lot's of bands get dubbed the next coming of David Berman or Stephen Malkmus, but as a Pavement and Silver Jews fan, this is as close as it will get for fans to any type of revival. The only slight difference is that the harmonies from Honey Clouds are more melodic and the delivery isn't as abrasive. The same nasally vocals are still there [...]

i'm addicted to these... hope everyone had a grand weeks end. we got back from columbia in one piece, barely. we hit the atlanta area last evening and it was like jeebus decided to take one of his epic beer pisses all over the area. it was pretty hairy, and white knuckled for about an hour or so. i love the assholes that decide that its still a great idea to go 70 when there's standing water all over the place and visibility is almost zero. its always the biggest piece of shit cars and/or jacked up dodge [...]
I've been living in Lisbon, Portugal since the end of May, and while there are some distinct things that I miss about home, either in Maine or at school in Connecticut, life here has been amazing. However, one event that I'm extremely bummed out about missing was the release party for my favorite Portland band, Phantom Buffalo . They've been around for a while, and used to be called The Ponys, until they got booked for a festival and discovered there was a band from Chicago also called The Ponys playing there. The release party was [...]

sup, gaywads? hope everyone had a loverly weeks end. mine was just fine. nothing too exciting, just lots of sierra nevada and rogue dead guy. oddly enough, no hangovers like i reported later last week. friends of captains dead, the line of best fit have a very cool comp for download made available from the fine folks at something in construction records . the comp features the likes of loney, dear, sambassadeur, sons of noel and adrian, the leisure society, and a bunch more. clicky to visit and download. admittedly, i get a [...]
