Honeydrum are a New Brunswick, New Jersey band that tap into a lo-fi aesthetic that may call to mind Ariel Pink. He just released two new songs, "Hot Star" & "A Year Of My Love" and I'm loving what I'm hearing. "Hot Star" a washed out track that feels as if it was forever trapped in an 80s cassette tape. "A Year Of My Love" is a lush track that sounds like a lost dream fading even further to the darkness. Both tracks will appear on a Gnar Tapes/Burger Records tape that will be released this summer.
Puedes [...]
Just an odd video for a great song from a swell band. Honeydrum's "Sore Cheeks" is a stand out track from the recently released Brokenhearted With A Busy Schedule (which can be... [go to the website to read the rest of the article, download mp3s and more]

Black Marble have taken us into some intensely abstract places in the past (especially in their previous incarnation as Team Robespierre ), but with latest single 'A Great Divide,' they've decided to ratchet things down a notch. Perhaps it's just the heat talking, but the band has seemed to relax a bit. This is a good thing, because they otherwise have a knack for keeping the tension tight. The drums and bass have decided to lay back... giving duo Chris Stewart and Ty Kube a chance to pour their guts out all over their washy sea of nord [...]
The prolific New Brunswick popsters known as Honeydrum just released a video for "Can't Wait To Meet You," the second track off of their Do You Party? EP. The vid represents the bands' first stab at the "classic" music video format, cutting back and forth between the band playing/chilling in a very deliberate way on a stately lawn and a semi-narrative montage of a house party that's replete with the strange formality, obligatory free booze, and measured jubilation of one of those engagement parties that gets increasingly common towards your mid-20s. That tale comes into focus, even as [...]
One hour, one day... one lifetime. Honeydrum - Oh Donna (from the Do U Party EP out on AMDISCS)
Listening to Honeydrum is akin to listening to some slightly-out-of-tune Californian radio station. In the Summer of '72. We presume. At least that's the image that's created in our mind as we listen to their rather special new single Stranger Calls. The single contains four tracks but comes paired with a another four track EP when purchased. The entire double release clocks in at just over twelves minutes. Yep, eight tracks in twelves mintes. You do the math, as they say. Lucky then that every second - 720 by our count - offers up something magical. It's a [...]

Honeydrum - Do U Party? This quartet - “ Joseph Black (voice & guitar), Raymond “Ray” Schwab (guitar & keys), Erik ‘Dougal’ Sandberg (bass guitar), Marc ‘Klein-Goldblatt’ Esterow (drums & magic act)” - seem to idolize Prince in the way Ariel Pink does. Except they squash the sound in a press and eek out only the essence of the waveform, like an echo of a distant past. Do You Party? EP + Stranger Calls 7” both out on May 9th May [...]

Honeydrum // “Suddenly Heaven” Check out this short vid from Cactus-Mouth regulars Honeydrum . It is probably as close to matching a visual aesthetic to their sound as you’re gonna get. For some reason it reminds me of some eerie, never-before-seen footage of Laura Palmer. The track is a B-side off of the band’s first 7” Stranger Calls which is being released by (surprise, surprise) Amdiscs . Listening to the four tracks on the 7” it’s become apparent that the band continues to distill their sound down closer [...]

Honeydrum created a video for the b-side on their upcoming Stranger Calls 73. This band is known for constantly putting out tapes and songs but I'm always befuddled at how they are never unsteady in the quality of work they release. Impose has quite a few choice words to say about the New Jersey band here . Amdiscs will be releasing this in April. previously: Honeydrum - Saturday Morning
MP3: Honeydrum - Stranger Calls Another couple in a steady series of tape pop hits from Honeydrum . Full scoop on their soon to be AM Discs -released Stranger Calls record is over at Impose . buy

While trying to piece together some words to describe the music of the New Brunswick, New Jersey "food court-core" pop band Honeydrum , I couldn't seem to string together anything as oddly poetic as what their current label, AMDISCS , wrote to describe the origins of their sound: "[it rides] under layers of coconut-colored zinc and drift[s] along the bubbly, wet walls of Jerzzy's (new) hypnogogic sea." Listen to "Stranger Calls", the A-side off of their upcoming 73 release, and you'll probably get a better idea of what that means. Of course, you can draw a quick and [...]
Honeydrum is back with a new time capsule cassette rock sound in "Stranger Calls". Devour some dimly lit lo-fi. mp3: Honeydrum - Stranger Calls previously: mp3: Honeydrum – Night... [go to the website to read the rest of the article, download mp3s and more]
Honeydrum - Traci’s on the Phone If you were going to make a video for a chillwave song, it’d better have a ton of neon and 80’s VHS rips. Video creator Behind the Walk-in does it right by those standards. The New Brunswick-based project’s new Pleasures Of The Sun EP is out now on AMDISCS .

Tweet vaso link This is far more delayed than I might have hoped, but I enjoy making this list of my favorite songs annually, so I can return to it and see where my thoughts were within the moment. Ultimately, this list serves mainly as a compelling iPod playlist. I concluded my first list in 2009 with 111 songs, and for posterity's sake, have continued along with that tradition. The actual rankings are generally quite fluid, as I could say [...]

Video Thrills // Video Thrills Featuring three of the four members of Honeydrum , this new side project Video Thrills is the most recent outing by these crazy New Brunswick dudes. If you’re familiar with the pitch-perfect retro pop of Honeydrum then listening to Video Thrills self-titled album should not be too much of a mental stretch. They are definitely riffing off of the same era, albeit in a fundamentally different way. Just going off of the [...]

Let's switch gears and go back to the land of the ultra lo-fi with Honeydrum , the group that keeps on knocking out cassettes month after month. Here are a few legit tunes from their latest release Pleasures of the Sun , released on July 15. For all I know, there's probably an even newer release out there already, and if there isn't, expect one soon. Honeydrum - Skin City
