Before we get onto the tedious ritual of me listing good gigs every week and you ungrateful fuckers not going to any of them, I felt the need to share something quite special with you. I spent my entire weekend going through lists of blogs who might be interested in the music we release and building mailing lists of people who have bought things from the label in the past and so on and so forth, so it's not been the most exciting weekend of our lives, I have to confess. Consequently, by bedtime last night, having spent [...]
Ohhh what jolly fun it's been this week. Now I know why bands find it so hard to find booking agents: because it's a shit job and no-one in their right mind would want to do it. Then, just as I was hating promoters for all I was worth, I started into the organisation for all my own gigs that I had to book and suddenly developed a new-found sympathy for them too. So WHO IS TO BLAME FOR MY SHIT WEEK, THEN? I can't think of anyone, it's most frustrating. Anyhow, I think I am [...]

Over the top, raucous folk music may be drifting slightly out of fashion these days, but I think I'd describe this album as I described the band's Toad Session in 2009: "a complete, and completely splendid, mess" . Also, in the interests of full-disclosure, I should point out that they are playing an album launch at Medina in Edinburgh on Saturday the 16th October. Myself and Dylan from Blueback Hotrod will be sorting the gig, Jesus H. Foxx will also be playing, and tickets can be bought in advance here , for [...]

So, we are off to Eigg this weekend for the Fence Away Game. Being a gallant sort I booked tickets for Mrs. Toad as well, as I thought she would enjoy such a picturesque setting, but the grumbling noises emanating from my better half over the last week or so have suggested that she is planning on weaselling out at the last minute. Fucking typical, is all I can say. Anyhow, this week's podcast is the usual mixed bag of new stuff and old stuff, and also includes an expectation of the dubious concept of Mixtape Infidelity, as [...]

Recorded for you from the sunny, blazing hot mountains of Andalucia, this one is a little late being uploaded because we only just got back to Scotland and I decided I might as well wait until we got home before uploading it rather than charge all around Spain trying to find somewhere to upload from and then sitting around for ages waiting for the damn thing to... well, you get the picture. I actually spent much of the week editing Toad Session videos, which seems just a tiny little bit pathetic, even to me. Still, editing video whilst [...]

Honeytrap A bowler hat he wore, his eyes became obscured, his teeth were telescopes, you should have seen his legs were the rolling rivers, they call him the forgiver although he cannot forgive With the proliferation of the hardware and software to allow any musician to record and master an album, we have entered exciting and refreshing times in music. There are many people making music now, without the help of a label and it's marketing machine. Enter the music blog. Once your blog [...]

No matter how hard I try, I will forever be at least two-and-a-half-ish weeks behind our inbox. I go through the mail every week, and every week I'm left with a bunch of stuff I want to investigate further. So I download what's available, put it on my iPod, and let it play for a while to see what I think of it. This system is a little clunky and slow, but it gets the job done. Luckily, this band sent us mail well in advance of their new release so even if did take me almost a whole month, [...]
Instead of mp3s this morning I have a small pile of videos for you. I think PR people and labels seem to like videos as the song can't be downloaded (although it can easily be ripped), so it kind of enforces a streaming-only policy. Also, we live in a multimedia world these days, so in that sense it also seems logical enough to me. The only issue I have with it is that the downloadable mp3, for all it represents giving away a bit of the album (and a lot of people worry about giving away the whole [...]
We Have Band // WHB - disco revival or disco.rock re-jig?
It's refreshing to learn that James Bond isn't so much a stretch from reality. Foreign Policy has a nifty primer on how spies of used sex and romance to learn secrets. The nice history lesson stretches from WWII to the present. The trade name for this type of spying is the "honey trap." And it turns out that both men and women are equally adept at setting one - and equally vulnerable to tumbling in. Spies use sex, intelligence, and the thrill of a [...]

As if you hadn't noticed , London trio We Have Band quickly became one of our favourite prospects for the future after two or three immaculate singles early on in their gestation. If we're going to be honest (and we really are going to be) they did actually promise us that "the album will be out in 2009", but what they lack in honesty they make up for with a strain of dark synth pop that they may have just managed to twist into one of the finest debuts this year, if the half of the album [...]
Our first "Rando" party with an added bonus hour of open vodka bar was this past Tuesday and we have to say, it was MASSIVE. Kids came out in huge droves for the free liquor, the unabashed party tunes from...

If you like to read your music videos, here's a video that makes sense of the "Be Stupid" Diesel ads. The clip features "Honeytrap" from We Have Band. Share and Enjoy:

Last year we fell in love with We Have Band , the arty disco trio from London. Their infectious single "You Came Out" was played in heavy rotation on our headphones for months. Now they bestow their debut album upon us! WHB will see the light of day on April 5th in the UK via Naive. You can get the new track "Honey Trap" here in exchange for your e-mail address. The new single "Divisive" is available on March 22nd. We Have Band - [...]

We can always count on the Def Starr boys to deliver something special and after a recent rendezvous with We Have Band in dusty ole Adelaide were given orders and sent marching. In what will be an official remix with the full release and a highly debated club-or-disco route sorted 'Honeytrap' has taken a real down tempo lounge chair affair, filled with tight chords and perfect use of vocals from We Have Band members Thomas, Dede and and Darren. We Have Band - Honeytrap (Def Starr Remix) ysi [...]

», « You've Had Band », « You Came Out » [...]

We'd already recorded the FOUND Toad Session earlier this same day, and Honeytrap had just recorded their session with Off the Beaten Tracks . So basically, the sun was baking and we were all absolutely shit-faced. Consequently, to describe the interview as any sort of conversation as opposed to some kind of deranged, cataclysmic cluster-fuck would be to massively flatter it. In all honesty, this is a complete and completely splendid mess - enjoy! Again, all the videos can be seen on the Song, by Toad Vimeo or YouTube pages, and the photo [...]
