It was a confusing time for music...and to be a teenager. The beginning of the new millennium was a tough time to be a high schooler.

It certainly seems like a long time since Apocalyptica say down with four cellos and covered Metallica . They slowly morphed over the years from a classical cover band taking on metal songs into a legit metal band of their own. These days they are collaborating with the likes of Doug Robb of Hoobastank , Gavin Rossdale of Bush , and Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo. I came across Silbermond when I was studying abroad in Germany a few years ago. I watched them perform "Zeit für Optimisten" (meaning "Time for Optimists" in German) on TV when they performed at the Berlin Live 8 Concert and from that moment forward I knew that they were a band to reckon with. First Denny's , now Ghostbusters : What's Hoobastank going to make terrible for us next? Backrubs, brests, and good weed?

For Halloween, much-maligned hard-rock band Hoobastank put some proton packs on their backs and then split... to a video shoot, where they very faithfully recreated Ray Parker Jr.'s theme to the timeless flick Ghostbusters . Hoobastank are a fairly excellent example of why a band's name can be critical. When Hoobastank's self-titled first album came out in 2002, their biggest claims were a) they sounded remarkably like Incubus in a time when Incubus were a huge deal, and b) they had a goofy freakin' name. So with those facts to their credit, Hoobastank got a fairly decent reception from radio and MTV (back when TRL showed full music videos). Yes the truth is a bitter pill to swallow, but apparently these Cali boys who were inspired by Incubus and schooled alongside members of Linkin Park did not succeed to the extent of their associated acts. In fact, the peak of their popularity stemmed from a Mountain Dew commercial in 2001 and an overplayed love song in 2003. Hoobastank latest single, My Turn, comes with a fully interactive music video. For the first time the viewer is able to control various aspects of the action and manipulate the video as they go on. It's almost like playing a music video making video game. It's a pretty novel concept, only problem is that I got so absorbed I couldn't hear the music anymore.
