There are few still around that haven't been played the fuck out that rep the hood right. Many new rappers and producers are not coming correct. Many flex too hard and forget to come with that bounce and old skool vibe. Dam-Funk embodies the bounce & the right way to stay hard. By staying true to the style. By keepin the Hood Pass Intact . I'm totally givin a shot out on this one to the 805, 213, and 310. I'll never forget where i'm from, Oxnard and I have nothing but love for my hipsters [...]
I'm realizing now I probably should have counted my pennies last year and hit up that DAT Politics show when I lived in Portland. I've been meaning to see what the fuck they do live with their live set, but it's hard to convince folks that the spastic electro they make is awesome. Had I gone, I would have gotten a sense of the equally awesome weirdness that is Breakfast Mountain , as they opened up the show. Instead, a year later I had to find out via the PDX Pop Now comp [...]

For those of you itching to scratch at something new, give some time to Leeds-based band, Hood . Though they're not exactly fresh to the music scene, their touch of ambiguity is indeed timeless, as heard on their recently re-released "Compilations 1995-2003" album. If you come at it blindly like I initially did, you'd do no better than to classify it as an obscure, Radiohead b-side album. Not too shabby a comparison then. So did this compilation compel me to go out and buy up all the Hood albums I could possibly [...]

I've been stuck in a rut lately. I've been swamped and work and when that happens I generally listen to a very small set of music over and over and over again. The problem with this is that no new music coming in means no new music going out. What happens is terrible. So to spice it up I decided to bundle together another volume of BOTR (Best of The Remix). If you'd like to check out all the previous BOTR volumes click here . Enjoy the music. mp3 : The Beach Boys - [...]

When Lady GaGa first came onto the 52nd Grammy Awards red carpet we loved her vision. She looked like she was the shiniest star during the entrance. However, we thought the wig was a little off, like a drag queen that just had a fight. It turns out that GaGa was sporting a full body suit with a hoodie that had hair on it. Yes, the GaGa was basically all dressed up from head to two in another image that looked, to the naked eye, real. She is just fabulous for taking such a risk. Filed under: Beats [...]

In one of my favorite moments from the Fall 09 tour Phish played a short, but meaningful and brilliantly played Hood that went straight into Mango Song, one of my all-time favorite sort of odd-ball phish tunes. I think some of our other butter-roomers are also on board with that. This show stands out for me in my plethora of attended shows by any band as one that was both well played and well thought out, blending the right amount of rarities/bust-outs (call them what you will) with new songs worked in as well as some staples. [...]

maxime haizum and i once snuck into a presentation by jeanne-claude and christo, a sort of retrospective/discussion. significantly, what struck me most was the deep and obvious affection they held each for the other. one had the sense that the wildness of their vision, of the lives they had lived, owed a basic debt to the bond between them. a running fence itself, it might be said. Jessica Bailiff - Gray sky, gray mind Hood - Fashion mistake of the decade Aarktica - [...]

and without further ado, here's volume 2. this one picks up at 1994 and ends in 2007 with the slo-core bliss-out of epic45. i should point out that these two mixes focus on the "experimental" side of post rock. a primer on the sturm und drang noisy side (mogwai etc.) is coming soon. ::: main - rail ::: pram - life in the clouds ::: hair & skin trading company - * ::: 'o'rang - little brother ::: navigator - driving bell ::: state river widening - unsung couples ::: third eye foundation - [...]
Dam-Funk grew up on "Scooby Doo" and sessioned for Westside Connection but his life's work was and will be the stewardship of the true spirit of funk. He's remixed Baron Zen and Animal Collective and he's just about to release the 5XLP monster Toeachizown on Stones Throw. This interview by Chris Ziegler.
