Is there anyone who doesn't like The Hoodoo Gurus? And if so, what's wrong with you? While best known in the US for their '80s-'90s heyday, when the band dominated both MTV and college radio charts with singles like "I Want You Back", "Come Anytime", "Bittersweet", "Miss Freelove 69", and "What's My Scene", down under, the band has continued to chug along, with 2012 finding them celebrating 30 years since the release of their debut single, "Lelani." Did we say celebrating? Boy, oh boy, are they celebrating. [...]
Entering their 30th year, Hoodoo Gurus assert definitively that they are still a viable rock entity How about those Hoodoo Gurus! I liked the Sydney garage-poppers a lot back in the '80s, but like a lot of the Aussie bands that enjoyed their heyday back in those hazy days (Midnight Oil, Lime Spiders), safe money appeared to be on the quartet coasting on the nostalgia in the Land Down Under and not releasing too much in the way of new material. Then I ended up at their first NYC Hoodoo Gurus...
Hoodoo Gurus are a good-time rock pop band from Australia that feature great 902s era college rock vocals in Dave Faulkner. In the late 802s and early 902s they had a string of snappy, slightly quirky, psychedelic, accessible singles, such as "Come Anytime" and "Miss Freelove '692" that lent themselves for constant rotation on college radio. Although Hoodoo Gurus enjoyed a fair amount of success stateside, I suspect that they were on the cusp of quite a bit more extensive success in the US but The Smithereens came out and [...]

[Buzz Bands' Southern Hemisphere correspondent checks in with a brief history of a longtime favorite, in advance of the quartet's rare L.A. appearance this weekend:] By Keith Shackleton A week prior to leaving for a tour of Brazil, the Hoodoo Gurus issued a press release announcing that 1997 would be their last year together as a band. There were no reasons for calling it a day other than "it just feels like the right time to do so." The [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News Now that Midnight Oil frontman Peter Garrett is busy serving as Minister for Schools, Early Childhood and Youth, it's time Australia fills his former post: Bald Ambassador of Rock 'n' Roll. Tuesday night, fans at the Bell House in Brooklyn, N.Y., gave an unofficial endorsement to Dave Faulkner, leader of power-pop-punkabilly legends Hoodoo Gurus. This was opening night of the Gurus' first US tour since 2007, and if Faulkner wasn't campaigning, [...]

Australia has been on my radar since the early '70s, when my father bandied about the idea of moving the family there. He had a gig secured, but, at the eleventh hour, my mom put the kibosh on the venture. I was five and pissed. Cornfields and cows did not match the allure of koalas and kangaroos. I don't think Australia was of much consequence to me again until later in the decade and the success of Olivia Newton-John in Grease and the dominance of the Bee Gees in pop culture. I [...]

Pleased to Meet Me today. Here are some items about you and your amplitude. - It's Glastonbury festival time in jolly old England this weekend, and that means rain is in the forecast . - Bob Lefsetz offers up tips for today's working musicians. Ahhh, so here we go again, still stuck in the 80's. These posts are a relief for me, especially since I get away from posting about personal issues. I can't say it enough but I love the 80's. Always do and always will. Remember, 1981 is the date that these bands were formed. The tracks posted can be a couple of years after that date. Also, this selection is in no way a comprehensive list of bands that were formed in 1981. I am sure that I am missing some important bands. But, this is the [...]
The Hoodoo Gurus' first album for RCA provided a lot of hit potential that sadly never materialized ("Come Anytime" was as close as they came to it on the college charts) but Dave Faulkner's guitar-jangly, hook-laden tunes never broke though into the pop mainstream. Too bad; virtually every song here could have been a contender. Self-produced, polished without being slick, and literate, the band
Image From Here It's been almost three years now since I wrote the poem below. And, three years have passed where I haven't seen my two children. God, I miss them so much. They live with my ex-wife in another state and are far away. And, due to my state of affairs over the past years, I have not been able to see them. I am in frequent contact with them; on the phone or text messaging. But, that isn't enough. My health has not been good over the past three [...]
I have all kinds of emotions these days, so many I can't even count them all. You could say, my life is an emotional mess. Out of all these emotions, I think that guilt is the strongest one. It's like guilt is the spark that starts the fire of all the other emotions I feel. I would list all the things that I feel guilty about but I won't because it would be a great long list. They say guilt is a useless emotion. But, I tend to disagree with that. I think guilt has a proper place [...]
I need to be loved... I need to feel you by my side... I need to feel your heart beating next to mine... I need to see your smile... I need to feel the warmth of your skin next to mine... I need to touch your soul... I need to hear the comfort of your voice... I need you to believe in me... I need you to tell me the truth... I need to see through your eyes... I need [...]
