There's a fascinating article over at The New Yorker about the process behind writing Rhianna 's smash hits. It seems deceptively simple : "You've got to have a hook in the intro, a hook in the pre-chorus, a hook in the chorus, and a hook in the bridge." So that's why Rhianna's songs get lodged in your head for days at a time: she has more hooks than a fly fisherman's bait box. It does raise the question: if the key to success is so [...]
Have a listen to this brand new track from up and coming producer, Hooky. Originating from south London, Hooky should know all about the sound of dubstep. Rising up through the dubstep ranks, Hooky has gained support from some of the biggest names in the scene with tracks such as 'When You Wake Up', and [...]

Other than the Mixes & Mashes, 2011 has been the year for Electronic Music here on Silence Nogood. It all started out through our transition with hip-hop. I remember thinking to myself that we needed more uptempo dance type music. A year later and the majority of the site is just that. I know there's a shitload more electronic out there So hit us up with your favorites, we'd love to hear more! Pretty Lights - I Know the Truth [...]
Introducing: Hooky In 1945 when World War II was ending, British intelligence made one of the biggest cover-ups known to man. Many thought the war was about stopping the oppressive Nazi movement from Germany, but little do people know that war was actually declared to stop a very secret underground music movement that could melt [...]

Hooky has a new dubstep tune for us to listen. His tunes are getting more sophisticated. After the near romantic appeal of Fallin' , this new one has a lot more synth action than we've become used to. A build up between piano and synth leads to a false peak before building through synth organ to the true peak. Only at that point does the wobbly bass obliterate everything. Classy. There's also a video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v =Dlmv-t9ObN0

Dubstep bass monster Hooky is back with a new track that could almost be described as romantic. Instead of trying to strip paint with the bass and distortion, this has a sweet vocal, a slow approach and even some piano. Now this can't be maintained all the way through. But these things are relative, right? http://soundcloud.com/itshooky

Inspired by our Dubstep Remixes of Rock Classics , this time around we're taking our favorite 802s & 902s video games and coiling the shit out of 'em with style . It originally started out as just general remixes of video game themes, but after compiling the majority of them, it turned out to be mainly dubstep. Unfortunately, that led to a few good remixes getting cut for now , most notably a favorite hip-hop Mario mashup of mine. I tried my darndest to get the most memorable classics - such as [...]
We've had tracks from Hooky a few times before. They're usually challenging dubstep. He has a new EP out for your preview pleasure. It's unsigned, so any companies out there might want a listen. The track below is a combination of all three tracks on the EP. Starts with The Whistle , which has a synth whislte sound but with huge dubstep drops. Digital Mafia starts with more synth sounds before again breaking out the bass but keeps a contrast between the treble synths and bass going. HyperMegaDunk ends the EP and is [...]

Niiiiice one, Hooky! Always thought you'd do well with a classic game remix, for some reason I always hear traces of it in your music, and you haven't disappointed this time 'round. Not only did you pick such a classic tune from Sonic, but this bass music rides the original tempo just right. Now I gots to find more classic game remixes that contend with this. Suggestions? Hooky's remix of "Sunshine" is a ray of hope for that bastard stepchild of a genre, dubstep. Dubstep always does well with high-pitched vocals such as these, but Hooky brings a rustic-step that reverbs off the eardrums nicely. If you're still not use to "music" like this, get to - it's the future of dance . New Order as was... New Order have announced two benefit gigs in Europe in aid of their old friend, the artist and film producer Michael Shamberg. Shamberg - who produced several of New Order's music videos, including the Brit Award winning True Faith, Touched by the Hand of God and Regret – has been struggling with a debilitating illness since 2005. Speaking yesterday, Bernard explains, "Michael has been with us from the [...]

I gotta warn you, if you don't like dubstep, this probably isn't for you. I completely understand why people don't like it, I'm not quite sure why I do. However, it's one of the most experimental genres & anything that forward-thinking, at leasts get my attention. Hooky is a little different than the dubstep I usually listen to. For the most part I listen to dubstep remixes, I find a lot of regular dubstep to be frivolous with no real aim or cohesiveness, and remixes tend to focus on the original tune... [...]

There are thousands of popular artists out there today making new singles all the time. With the increase of bedroom producers though, the ability to simply download a whole studio that you can use right on your lap has made original songs more scarce. Now it seems that your finding tens of thousands of remixes by artists with more and more ludicrous names, leaving you wondering "Transexual Viking Sword Bro- what???." This weekly segment will bring you the popular remixes and the never heard of "Transexual Viking Sword Brothers" remixes of a (common) artist's [...]

It's Wednesday again, time for that weekly wobble. Today I have a preview of Feed Me's new EP which is sure to not disappoint. I'm absolutely in love with the sound of a plane or something flying by in the last part of this track, you'll know what I mean. Possibly the most viral dubstep track of all time Mt Eden's Sierre Leone gets remixed by Getter and this makes this track unbelievable, melodies, wobbles and all. Must download for sure. The very popular Fleet Foxes Mykonos (Barbaric Merits [...]
First thing that popped in my head when listening to Hooky's newest track, "R K'd", was it sounded like Mario jumping straight outta Super Mario Bros. 2 for Nintendo. Then shortly after (well, it was a bit longer), I realized the name, "R K'd", is "arcade" - I'm a little slow, I know. But other than my dumb witted discovery, "R K'd" is another fresh dubstep mind melter from the Hookster. My favorite track from his will probably always be his remix of "Make You Pop" , it really solified my appreciation for dubstep, but [...]

After hearing Hooky's remix of "Make You Pop" , originally by Diplo, I knew I had another dubstepper to add to my collection. I went on the search for more of his dubstep goodness to find a few quality tracks and news of more to come. Until the anticipation of his up-and-comers is satisfied, I thought a nice teaser would hit the dubspot. "Peg Leg" is killer track reminiscent of the Devil's dubstep. Enjoy this nightmare before the Christmas season overtakes our musical playlist. [Audio clip: view full post to [...]

I don't know why I like dubstep, but sometimes the beat takes you. It's like screamo music, only a certain person can handle it. I'm not into a lot of dupstep, however, a nice blend of dub vibes fused with anything from Nelly Furtado to Mozart will get my rave face on. Hooky's remix of "Make You Pop" has a good build until it drops so-damn-hard 53 seconds in. The beat hits right on the spot with some unusual sounds for music. Only in dubstep could you drop in [...]

Still droppin ridiculous tracks as always, Hooky did not disappoint in this single he released a few weeks back. The women's voice he incorporates throughout the song memorizes my mind. Hooky - Say something Get more of Hooky's tracks here .

No escape - Hooky This new track by Hooky has a very ominous feel in the beginning but shortly transitions into a grimy raw dubstep beat that is different from the rest. It's another great track by London's very own, Hooky. Links to other posts on Hooky available here
