Posted in General Clickable Play-This-List Soundbite Following on from yesterday's post featuring our favorite albums and EPs of 2011, today we're highlighting our favorite songs. The list below is again in no particular order, the songs we chose may not have necessarily been singles, but were tracks on albums - we're basically highlighting any tune we heard over the past year [...]

Here is part two of counting down the singles and music videos of 2011. This time it is counting down from #30 to #11. Most of the singles are compiled from the Singles Chart on my site. There will be some songs that wasn't on the chart but are worthy to be noticed. Check it out. 30. Foster The People - Pumped Up Kicks [...]

I'm officially not doing an albums of the year list. There have been so few that I wholeheartedly enjoy, I'd have to do a top 10 that starts at 8. But that is not to say that there wasn't some exceptional new music this year. Click HERE for my favorite tracks from 2011. I'm hoping that 2012 will pick up the pace, but if not, I'll just further recede into the vintage music that I love so much. I hope you enjoy listening to the mixes as much as I like making them. [...]

It's that time of year to look back on the past 12 months and say "what the hell happened to the last 12 months?!". It's also that time of year where us music bloggers and self-proclaimed critics take the time to put together some Best Of lists for your reading pleasure. They don't really mean a whole lot and you can love 'em or leave 'em, but it seems like the right thing to do to sum up the year in preparation of the next. This year we're featuring personal lists from all of our fantastic writers. [...]

In classic fashion, I've waited till the absolute last minute for my year end lists. Today I present this years honorable mentions, while my top 20 albums will be revealed over the next two days. The albums mentioned generally fall into two strains: albums with fantastic singles that didn't come together as well in their full form, and albums that I felt the need to recommend but didn't quite make the top 20 cut. They are presented in alphabetical order based on artist. Active Child – You Are All I See [...]

Tweet vaso link The year in music that was/is 2011 marked a departure from the prior two in which this blog has been in existence. This in the sense that, as opposed to waiting for albums from bigger bands one could classify as a favorite, there were far more unanticipated discoveries. I often talk of expectations, but this year I had few. For this year end list, I whittled down the list of the year's albums slowly to include those [...]

Another year has passed and 2011 has left us with some amazing albums! Here is a list I compiled from my favorites as well as favorites from fellow contributors Michael and Erika . We all have slightly different tastes so together it leaves us with a nice representation of the year. These are in no particular order (that would be too difficult to do). Enjoy and thanks for listening! Hooray for Earth :: True Loves [...]

THE WEEKND - HOUSE OF BALLOONS You don't visit this blog for it's R&B expertise. However, you don't need to be an expert to realise that this artist is making something special in a genre that's drowned in it's own self-obsession for years. For it's cross-over appeal, blurred boundaries and excellent production, no other album this year has sounded so 2011. GOTYE - MAKING MIRRORS It seems Walter De Backer finally located [...]

A good video is not always a question of money. Nite Versions compiled its favorite music videos released in 2011. Some of them are here because they're visualized in a truly impressive way, and others are here because they just got a the right concept. Bravo to Woodkid (#1), whose real name is Yoann Lemoine . Not only is he performing 'Iron' but also directed the clip. Everything about it is genius. He's definitely one of the best directors for 2011. Thumbs up for Edouard Salier 's (#2) direction on Justice's 'Civilization'. [...]

I originally discovered Britain's Clock Opera because of their remixes, but this past year they've been teasing us with some original tracks. They're still one of the best remix collectives in the game, but as far as i'm concerned, Clock Opera's originals are damn near perfect. ♪ Clock Opera - Belongings (from Belongings EP) More Clock Opera: website [...]

When 2011 is said and done, there can only be one that surpasses all others. While there were 3 records that were rated perfectly this year and 2 that were as close to perfect as anyone could get, the process involved in picking the best of 2011 was as pleasurable as it was difficult. I want to personally congratulate the artists mentioned here today and thank you for your tremendous talent and dedication to your craft- You guys are the best of the best and it was pleasure talking about all of you. And you, reading at home or where-the-fuck-ever, [...]

Sharon Van Etten Editor’s Note: I don’t do “Best of” or “Top” lists, but I do like things … as hard as it might seem to believe. I’m going to post a few editorials between now and the end of the year about the various things I’ve liked about 2011. For me to do a post on all the songs I liked that came out in 2011 I'd have to type for about 20 hours straight. I'm going to pair down the list through a couple of parameters. [...]

Now we are getting into the meat and potatoes of this list. I can honestly say that every song from here down to #1 have been on HEAVY rotation on my iPod over the past 12 months. Let's gooooooo. 40. Those Darlins - Screws Get Loose 39. Blue Skies For Black Hearts - Majoring In The Arts 38. White Denim - Street Joy [...]
Twin sisters Cristi Jo and Jessica Zambri make up the electro-pop BTW Zambri. Hooray For Earth's Noel Heroux mixed Glossolalia , their debut EP, and he and his bandmate Autre Ne Veut both add vocals to Zambri's song "To Keep Back." Below, we've got that song's video, in which the two Zambri sisters stand creepily motionless for long periods of time in a museum. Meringuemeringue directs. Read More...

You should have seen the deliberation room after we finished the lists. Papers scattered across the floor, blood and coffee stains on the carpet, I think at one point Kenny threw his laptop at Stuart (it just barely missed). But it makes sense, because each one of us are so passionate about the music we loved this year. So, check out what music meant most to each of our wonderful writers- Also, be sure to check out our top songs of the year (100-51 / 50-1 ) and top albums of the year [...]
Dozens of music videos have come across my desk in the last year, but few had the factors that it takes to be awarded with a coveted Golden VS . So how better to kick off the 47th Annual VS Awards than with the music video category? This year, production values varied, but each demonstrated the qualities that commanded the attention of everyone on the board of directors of the VS Academy . So, without further ado, the winners are: #5 [...]

The best albums are much more than a collection of stand out songs. Like anything successful, a great album finds multiple parts coming together as one; accomplishing moods, textures, and developments not possible by any one singular piece. The best albums force you to take a step back, to not only look at each moment but to examine how that moment fits into a larger picture. Perhaps most important, the best albums are constantly evolving begging for repeated listens to show you all of their ins and out. Check out the 50 albums that kept us coming [...]
