Hooverphonic return with an album of experienced ambient pop, with a surprisingly pleasant-sounding new voice on board. The Night Before marks Hooverphonic coming off a decade of well-regarded releases by adding a singer with no previous musical experience. Opening cut "Anger Never Dies" shows newcomer Nomie Wolfs to have a reasonably skilled voice. It's somewhere between the riot-girl stomp of Shirley Manson and the lilting, plaintive tones of Dolores O'Riordan. She takes that combination and manages to make it a fine accompaniment to tracks that cover a wide range of styles. Opening...

By way of Miami to Israel to Boston, Daniel Blue is a media artist that has been apart of the production backdrop of the film, music video and TV industry for the last 15 years, a true musician that not only performs, listens but genuinely immerses himself in the sound, and a photographer that beautifully captures images, then composites every single defined element into electric, still-waking moments of reality. Recently, Daniel Blue kindly contributed his time to share an interview and playlist with MIA. Enjoy! ~*~ [...]

Who would've thought that Hooverphonic 's still got it, 17 years plus into their career? I thought Geike's departure marked the end of the Belgian band, but I was surprised at how easily the new vocalist Noemi fits into the band and holds the fort admirably. It seems they did well with some young blood, as their last album "The Night Before" was certainly one of their strongest efforts. On the strength of that album's success, Hooverphonic just released "Hooverphonic With Orchestra" , with re-workings of old and new songs since the beginning. I always have a soft [...]
When tickets went on sale (very quietly) for Gotye’s gig at the small and gorgeously historic Wilton’s Music Hall, I had a hunch it would be my first and last chance to see Australian wonderboy Wally de Backer. The buzz was building (thanks to that ubiquitous music video) and pretty soon it would mean bigger [...]

Hooverphonic announced the tracklisting of their concept album "Hooverphonic With Orchestra". There will be 17 songs on the album including a new song called "Happiness". The album will be available in all stores as from March 9th, 2012. Didn't they already do this with the " Sit Down and Listen To " album? I guess that one was just a more slowed-down or nearly acoustic album. 1. Happiness 2. One Two Three 3. The Night Before 4. Heartbroken 5. The Last Thing 6. 2Wicky 7. Anger Never Dies 8. Unfinished Sympathy 9. Expedition Impossible 10.

Let's face it. The Euro seemed like such a grand idea, execution of that idea has proven otherwise. The fatal flaw may exist in the fact that multiple nations can not flourish under a collective currency with vastly different cultures , histories, and governmental politics. The "trip over a banana peal" climax of this entire gag reel is the varying levels of economic development that makes each nation uniquely individual and impossible to co-exist fiscally. Greece may have to gracefully bow out, other weaker nations may follow suit. Is it the end of [...]

How far is it from a relatively obscure, failed ‘70s feature film by an Oscar-winning director to a thirty-foot, fiberglass catfish? Thirty-five miles. Paloma and I have taken advantage of the fact that, here in the 21st century, people will deliver movies to your doorstep because we enjoy movies and…well...going to a theater requires leaving the couch and venturing into an often rude, zombie wasteland. I’ve been delving into grainy movie memories from my childhood (several of which I’ve mentioned of late). One which I wanted to check out was Sorcerer , [...]

Belgian trio softens the gloomy urgency of White Lies.
The future of Hooverphonic seemed uncertain when their lead singer, Geike Arnaert, left the band in 2008. I thought the Belgian band would have just thrown in the towel, but they moved along with a new, younger vocalist, Noémie Wolfs, and released their seventh album, "The Night Before", late last year. I heard the title [...]
If By Yes is an addictive blend of pop and avant-garde.
I am accustomed to quality material from Twentyseven Media. The NYC-based label broke out local bands like The Drums and This Is Ivy League, exposed underrated Swedish gems (Acid House Kings, Irene, Pelle Carlberg) to American audiences, and are headed by people who are music fans first and foremost. If founder Clyde Erwin Barretto focused [...]
