FWY! - "Marina Del Rey 6PM" I've been utterly enamored with most things coming out of the Moon Glyph offices as of late, particularly the fresh-off-the-press San Clemente tape from San Francisco native FWY! (Horrid Red's Edmund Xavier). In contrast to the rather goth-y German-language post-punk Xavier churns out with Horrid Red, the tunes on San Clemente are all slow, sunlit grooves and smooth sailing through faded pastel landscapes like [...]

On the San Francisco via Aachen, Germany band's Myspace, Horrid Red cites a sizable lot of avant-punk, kraut, and industrial acts as influences: from Cabaret Voltaire to The Savage Republic to the Fall to PIL to Can. And while those influences can all be heard loud and clear on Celestial Joy , the omission of Joy Division, New Order, or even The Cure among them is confusing, since those bands immediately come to mind. Shit, the set's title track could pass for a Joy Division tribute band from Berlin. Celestial Joy is [...]

Welcome, welcome, to 20JFG's fantabulous end of year round up. Once again we'll be raiding the year's archives for the tracks that made permanent homes on our digital/analogue devices. We'll also be posting a few things that we loved but didn't cover at the time: music that had already been blogged to death or music that its owner wasn't happy to give away...until now! So, over the next couple of weeks we'll tease out a stream of songs that made us happy to be writing this blog, year in, year out. At 20JFg we create [...]

On Plough Tuesday, a Straw Bear marches down the streets of Whittlesea and dances in front of its houses in exchange for gifts of money, food or beer, not that different from what many bands do these days, same as it ever was. This is another of those millennial English folk traditions that the 20jazzfunkgreats endorse and cherish, echoing as they do the cycles of an ancient land spinning through the eternal rerun of the seasons at their own rhythm, connected to itself and the Earth, the Stars and the Secret World in ways that we [...]

Bless their Krautrock-darkwave hearts, Aachen-San Francisco's Horrid Red is back . The band's debut Pink Flowers EP sounded like a time capsule buried in Stuttgart sometime between 1976 and 1982, and while a licensing deal with Old Navy isn't in the band's future, the Silent Party EP factors in enough post-punk that songs like the title track could pop up in a forward-thinking Volkswagon campaign. Silent Party drops June 21st on Soft Abuse , [...]

Edmund Xavier's dark minimal wave project Horrid Red has finished a new EP, to be released in June via Soft Abuse . Recorded in March in San Francisco and Berlin, Silent Party comes either as a three-track 7 inch or on a six-track cassette and once again features the group's signature style of combining gloomy creepiness with an overall very danceable rhythm pattern, adding up to strangely irresistible party tunes. Cop the title track below, and pre-order the thing over here . Horrid Red - Silent Party

Here's a bit of German punk with Joy Division undertones for you, courtesy of Horrid Red. Both tracks ('Silent Party' and 'Horrid Life') are taken from the band's 'Silent Party' EP, which is out on June 21. Listen to both songs here: 'Silent Party' ; 'Horrid Life'

Afgelopen zondag was Clay Ruby jarig.
Burial Hex feat.

New Zola Jesus stuff!! Well, actually a Burial Hex song with Nika Roza Danilova on vocals, remixed by Horrid Red . And Horrid Red is actually Ruby Clay of Burial Hex, along with Edmund Xavier. Huh! However, this is a real goth pop gem. Apparently the original version of the song is 20 minutes long, and it should be on a 123 due out some time soon on Holiday Records . [ via ] Burial Hex feat. Zola Jesus - The Far (Horrid Red Radio Remix) [...]

Clay Ruby's a member of one of our 18 Dark Bands To Watch Horrid Red, but he's probably better known for his equally dark one-man project, Burial Hex. On this version of "The Far," Ruby handles keys, electronics, and some voice and gets a helping hand from Horrid Red cohort Edmund Xavier (guitar, additional keys) and, probably more noticeably, blustery vocals from Zola Jesus. It's a radio edit of a 20-minute track due out on a 123 by Italian label Holiday Records - goes without saying it should star at your goth dance party this (or any) weekend. [...]
It's not news that popular indie rock got a bit darker in 2010. Look no further than regular topics of conversation around here - Zola Jesus, CREEP, Cold Cave, Salem, Tamaryn, Blessure Grave, Locrian, Gatekeeper, Frank (Just Frank), Crystal Castles, Holy Other, Balam Acab, Minks, oOoOO, Silent Diane, ///▲▲▲\\\, anyone else who got labeled "witch house," and even the new look Abe Vigoda, etc. I started thinking about this again while writing the Double Take on Liars' They Were Wrong , though to be fair, it's something that doesn't really leave my mind. Things are still [...]

Dang.. sometimes it seems like I'll never have time to write up every single band I hear about before they get old and stale (in the blog world that's like 3 days). Anyways, please accept this list of bands that are super good and should be looked into in more detail. Also, this may have been the laziest blog I have ever written. am anfang mal gleich die notiz zum album, auf das ich mich aktuell am meisten freue, die band lässt "i am very far" am 10. mai von den zügeln, jagjaguwar und auch die kapelle zieren sich dato aber noch, einen ersten tonalen ausschnitt zu spendieren, so halten wir aus und knabbern an den nägeln zu musik aus alten zeiten: okkervil river - it ends with a fall (2003) news auf western vinyl , lieblinge des hauses scharren mit den [...]
